Maddie, Madeleine, Dearest Sister-
Regardless of skill or circumstance, you are still my
sister; your intentions, however miscalculated, nonetheless
ring true. And even if it didn't... You know as well as I that
you deserve what you've received.
If there should have been a Best Older Brother category,
then there should have been one for Best Little Sister,
which I am confident you would have won. No one else
is quite as bright, or capable, or simply as charming, for
they are all sub-par. One could argue that it is all part of
being a Whitman, but one would be sorely mistaken.
I may not be going on the trip this summer, but neither will
I always be present. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy
yourself. I can only hope Hughes won't get you into too
much trouble, or at least anything you cannot get out of.
Should you ensure that the Honourable Hughes addresses
me by that appellation for the last time, I may be amenable to
unsubtle suggestions pertaining to your gift.
