Physical Description:
Sean was once considered quite handsome by most. But Azkaban has changed his appearance considerably. What was once short but thick and unruly brown hair had turned into thin stringy locks that hung at his shoulder. His brown eyes have gained a dull, empty look and he had lost all of his previous bulk that went with his tall height.
Still, some parts of his appearance remain. His nose remained as long as ever and kept its perpetually flared nostrils. His eyebrows remained thick and constantly furrowed as if he was confused or irritated.
In the past, Sean would practically wear his work clothes to bed. Now, being so used to the prison clothes of Azkaban, he’d be happy to wear anything that doesn’t remind him that he’s a prisoner.
Personality Description:
The core of his personality that has survived even Azkaban is his work ethic. It got him into Hufflepuff and got him several jobs, Sean believes that he and everyone should work towards something for their entire life. It doesn’t matter if it’s unattainable or not, to him, anyone working towards a goal will improve on their own in their own quest for that goal. He gets irritable and restless when not working for long periods of time.
In recent years, Sean has been filled with regret. Regret for the things he did while working in a Death Eater run ministry, regret for abandoning his unborn child, and regret for letting his work consume everything else that was good about him. A weariness has seeped into him and he finds it hard to concentrate when people are talking to him. Coming out of Azkaban, he is surprised at any attention-no matter big, small, good, or bad-he gets due to having only one visitor toward the end of his sentence, and having the guards leave him alone except to check on him periodically.
Sean is a definite follower. While not being stupid, he prefers to let others lead and come up with the ideas while does the behind-the-scenes work. He doesn’t care if the job is menial or if he gets hardly any credit for it. As long as he’s helping in some way, he’s happy. Or he was, being a follower in a Death Eater run ministry and later being put in Azkaban has made him re-think his ways of doing his job and who he follows.
One of Sean’s biggest flaws would have to be his inability to think things through. When he left his wife after the ministry fell in 1997, he gave no thought to the fact that she would now be hunted down by snatchers. When he sent out snatchers as part of his new job, he didn’t consider the possibility that he was practically sentencing those Muggleborns to their deaths. These thoughts just didn’t register into his mind. Though with 12 years in Azkaban, Sean has had plenty of time to think about what he did while he was working.
History:
A descendent of the pureblooded, Irish Collins branch on his mother’s side, and the O’Coigligh family on his father’s side, (His great-grandfather took his Muggle wife’s name in an attempt to change his bad luck) Sean was born with good amount of prestige. Luckily for him, the O’Coigligh “luck” had not hit him for the most part and his early childhood was as normal as could be for a pureblooded young wizard. His father worked in the Wizengamot Administrative Services and his mother worked as a healer. His mother was known for working herself to the bone and dedicating herself almost entirely to her career, a trait that Sean picked up on.
When Hogwarts came for Sean, he was almost immediately sorted into Hufflepuff due to his quickly developing work ethic. He made friends that would later become contacts that would get him jobs. Throughout Hogwarts Sean found that while he was adept at a number of subjects, he could never truly master any of them. In the end, he was left with all E grades on his NEWTs.
But Sean didn’t let any of that get him down and he quickly got to into the workforce, working odd jobs until he managed to land a job as a Daily Prophet reporter’s assistant. Soon after he got the job, he had received word that his mother had died of Dragon-Pox contracted from a patient. His father would follow soon after, dying of the same illness that took his wife. Sean then began to fear that he would have nothing to offer the world and would die alone with no family that cared or would remember him.
When the Daily Prophet reporter he worked for was assigned a job in America, Sean was happy to follow; he hoped that the change of scenery would help with his newfound troubles. While his boss was interviewing some students of Laevenstrom’s Fundunct of Sorcery, Sean noticed a younger witch walking to a tree. Sean followed the young woman and after seeing that she was hungry, offered to buy her lunch in exchange for an interview.
He and the witch-named Karen White- were married and he took her back to his home in Ireland four months later. Sean promised her that he would become successful and she would be happy and that their future children would have the best opportunities available. Everything was going great for the newlywed. Soon after the wedding, Karen discovered that she was pregnant, and Sean had gotten a new job in the Wizengamot administration services. It seemed like everything would turn out just fine for the happy couple.
Then the Ministry of Magic fell to Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Nothing would happen to Sean, as long as he left his Muggleborn wife. Without a thought as to what would happen to his wife, he wrote her a note and departed to London the morning after the ministry fell. As part of the Death Eater run ministry, Sean was appointed the task of finding possible locations where Muggleborn wizards and witches could be hiding and dispatching snatchers to those locations.
9 months later, the Battle of Hogwarts commenced and with the defeat of Voldemort by Harry Potter, the ministry was taken out of the Death Eater’s hands and everyone willingly working for them was put on trial, including Sean. He was quickly sentenced to life in Azkaban. For 12 long years Sean practically rotted away there. The Dementors were gone, but that had not improved the state of the prison by much and Sean could feel his mind going numb with the loneliness and isolation. He would go months without saying a word and toward the end of his sentence, came to a quiet peace with his future death within the walls of Azkaban.
But thanks to the help of a mysterious old man, Sean found himself being released due to “Good Behavior” after only 12 years. Soon to be taken to a case worker to discuss his future, Sean wonders if he was better off rotting away in Azkaban.
