Physical Description:
Paul is not a tall man, 5'7'' or so, with a stocky build. He is in decent shape, with broad shoulders, being described as stout. He has Sandy-brown hair that he keeps short and neat. He wears traditional robes that are suitable for a ministry official. Usually black, though occasionally he will wear other colours. He does not care about fashion, but he is always tidy and clean. He wears muggle aftershave, with two or three regular smells, and always wears a black and white band around his wrist, a gift from his sister.

His voice is deep and commanding, a useful skill in his position. He looks his age, or maybe a year younger, which causes some people to underestimate him due to his youth.

When not at work he wears simple clothes. If he Is at his home in London he will usually wear muggle clothes, jeans and a shirt, if he's in the Wizardibg world simple robes are likely. 


Personality Description:
Paul is a kind and generous man who loves his friends and his family completely. He enjoys nothing more than sitting down in the pub and having a few pints with his mates and he would do anything for any of them. But he is not great at making new friends, he is naturally cautious and calculating, and is someone who does not trust easily. And his trust is never won back. He is very intelligent, he gained excellent grades at NEWT level and is an excellent judge of character. A skilled plotter and schemer who has shown he is a talented politician, despite only being in the Ministry for a short period of time.

Paul is a slytherin because he is incredibly ambitious. He wants to become a Department Head, and one day Minster for Magic. He faces discrimination from some within the Magical word because of his Muggle birth, but he uses this to gain support from the more moderate and liberal members. He is able to turn a bad situation into a good one, a skill that is invaluable in his line of work.

He is split between the Muggle and the Magical world, and he prefers the Magical world by a fair margin. His Muggle sisters, and mother, are aware of his life and live with him. They live in his London flat with him. He spends most of his time at the Office though, often working 18 hour days.

Paul hates discrimination in all forms, and he hopes to make a real difference in Politics. He also is a supporter of Werewolf rights and sees House-elf service is nothing more than slavery. Although he does have a genuine wish to make changes he is not above using his influence to get back at those who cross him. He enjoys the power he has, after being mocked by a number of people at Hogwarts.

He is willing to do almost anything to get what he wants done, but he sticks to the letter of the law, to cover his own hide. He has no problem with blackmail and keeps a little black book with notes on many important figures. Muggle energy drinks are something Paul can not live without, he drinks them throughout the day, and they help keep him going throughout the long days.

A family life is something Paul wants. He does not want to run around getting drunk and having casual affairs like many his age. But he is not very good with women he is attracted to. He has only had one girlfriend and that ended badly. He is nervous around women he likes, and usually ends up chickening out. He loves forests, fields and the sea. Often walking for hours in the country, when he has any time spare.

He does not share his feelings and emotions with many people. Paul is a closed book. In his world weakness can not be shown, as it is like bleeding in a tank of sharks.

History:
Paul was born on the beautiful little tidal island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland. He spent his childhood learning every nook and cranny on the Island. His sister, Rebecca, was born 15 months after he was, and the two of them were inseparably close. They would go to the beach and watch the sea cut the island off from the mainland each night. The tourists had gone home by then, and the island was at it's most beautiful.

His second sister, Anna, was born when Paul was 8. He loved his family more than anything. The first time Paul used magic was with Rebecca, she was climbing a tree and fell. Paul raised his hands and she stopped falling, and slowly landed on the ground. The two were shocked, ran home as fast as they could, and told their parents. They obviously did not believe the two children, they thought it was just part of some game.

Just before Paul's 10th birthday his father ran off with a woman from Scotland. Paul was devastated. The whole family was. He never forgave his Father, and has never seen him since.

A man arrived outside their house one night, and he would change Paul's life forever. He told Paul and his mother that Paul was a wizard! The man pulled out his wand and turned the tea pot into a mouse. And invited Paul to attend Hogwarts, a school for Witches and Wizards. It was a dream come true for Paul.

Mother and Son went to Diagon Alley together, their first taste of the magical world, and Paul loved everything about it. They were not a rich family. Since his father left they had to move into a small flat. So Paul had to get second hand books and robes, but he did not mind at all. The most exciting moment was his wand. As soon as he touched it the wand glowed blue!

At Hogwarts he was sorted into Slytherin, apparently rare for a Muggleborn. And he found that a number of his new House mates were not willing to mix with him. He did not really understand why. In the end he spent most of his time with a group of three boys from Hufflepuff. David, James and Roger. They would become his best friends.

In his first year he was behind most of the Magical born students. They had a basis to sit on. Paul had no idea about simple spells and historical facts that every one else knew. But this made him work incredibly hard. And by the end of his second year he was one of the top in his class. And by the time of his OWLs he was top of his class in most subjects.

His best friends were average students, and he helped them all he could. But they were completely fine with gaining Acceptables as their results.

He was very proud of his OWL results. He and his friends celebrated in Hogsmede and on that night Paul finally made a move on Francesca Wilson, a girl he had liked for years. The two of them started a relationship and Paul was happier than he had ever been. It was the best time of his life.

The two of them were planning to get married after Hogwarts, and start a life together. But it did not end well. Paul had distanced himself from his best friends. She dumped him after a huge misunderstanding, the worst moment in his life. He was absolutely heartbroken, and for the last year avoided her throughout the castle.

He passed his NEWTS with all Os. And was relieved to leave Hogwarts, if only to get away from Francesca and whisperings about them. He applied for an Intern-ship in the Minster for Magic's Office, and got it! He could not believe it. That year was one where he had no money. He was paid a pittance, and shared a flat with three muggle students who thought he worked for the British Government's Department of Communities and Local Government. During that year he worked incredibly hard, and impressed a lot of people, so that by the end of the year he was made Junior Assistant to the Minister for Magic. An excellent position for such a young man.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
The Junior Assistant to the Minister is a High ranking position in the Minister's Office who's role is to assist the Minister for Magic in anything and everything. Paul handles a lot of the dirty work and also acts as an enforcer and liaison. Acting as something of a Whip, making sure people toe the party line.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
His intelligence is a major quality, it allows him to think through a problem and is able to think of a way to counter it. He is also willing to do almost anything to make sure the Minister gets her way.

Writing Sample:
The scratching of the quill across parchment was one of the most pleasing sounds Paul knew  off. The rhythmic sound was one of the small perks of the job. The letter he was writing would be sent to the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He envied her. A powerful woman, the head of what many would consider the most powerful Ministry department. He folded the parchment, sealed it with ministry wax.

Someone knocked on the door outside his office. "Come in," he said. Paul reached for another letter on the pile resting on his desk. Paul stood as he saw who had entered his office. "Elder Ragnarok, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" The Witzenagamot member was tall, old and stooped.

"I would like to ask your opinion of the Minister." The man talked slowly, deliberately, as if he were weighing up every word. Paul smiled politely. He wondered if this man was testing the water, seeing if he had any potential allies against the Minister.

"The Minister is an incredible woman, wise and very politically astute." The man left after that. Paul reached into his pocket, and pulled out a little brown book, taking the quill he wrote, in fine looping writing, "Ragnarok," at the top of one page. Under he noted the date and time, and wrote "Potential Enemy (Minister).
