Micah Emmanuel Gallagher: Seventh Year Hufflepuff on July 02, 2014, 05:33:11 PM BIOGRAPHY MICAH Emmanuel GALLAGHERMay 1, 1993. Bristol, England. Halfblood.7TH YEAR HUFFLEPUFF[ 12 ½”, oak, unicorn tail hair; supple, with a hint of resistance. ]Physical DescriptionTall but not that tall, Micah is nevertheless tall enough to be, maybe, tall, dark and handsome with his nice-looking shoulders and probably even nicer smile (which has been known to make more than a few hearts skip a beat). Despite a rather serious-looking pair of brows (and a couple of small, perky ears) he has a cheerful, upbeat kind of face—possibly the kind that, for all its cocky smirks and cheesy grins, makes people want to swaddle its owner in a bunch of thick, cushy blankets as though he were a wee babe.At 17, however, Micah is a young man—a fact made clear in the sturdy slope of his shoulders and the loose, easy swing of his feet. While still a bit on the lean side, it’s clear he’ll only get bigger, and rather than go about as though he were someone smaller (or taller) he does so with the vivid comfort of one who’s already grown into his skin. Dark hair – brown like earth – curl over a thought-lined brow in little cowlicks. His laugh, when heard, is smooth and light, and the kind of sort-of buzzy that could easily deepen into a loud, gusty yell.Although... he doesn’t. Yell, that is. Or talk, if he can help it. For on the flat of his tongue, Micah has an ugly, jagged ‘X’ that looks too much like a burn mark. And in a way, it is a burn mark—or at least, it had felt like it at the time. Either way, he’s ashamed of it and tries not to draw attention to it as much as he can.Clothing-wise, he prefers fitting but comfortable clothes, usually something green. Because of his love for plants and poking about the dirt, he can often be found barefoot, with his trousers rolled up and grass stains about his knees and back (from lying on the ground). His nails are sometimes black with dirt—soil. And not for lack of gloves, or a wand. He’s a good-looking kid... most of the time.PersonalityA dork. He is a total dork. Awkward and shy, he blushes very easily. Usually it is a bystander’s vocal encouragement, but a direct suggestion (or even the word s-e-x-ual) works, too.He is also, maybe, a little gullible. Though he is quick to catch on when it comes to teasing – and is pretty good at catching a lie – Micah is easily caught off-guard, especially when distracted or already self-conscious about something to begin with, like his sincerity; accusations of perfidy are quick to dismay. But while he may be a sucker for peace and sensitive to tension, he isn’t above or beyond using his charms to smooth things over… Or quit an uncomfortable situation. It isn’t something he is particularly proud of, but it gets the job done, and when he doesn’t like something– be it a task, situation, or simply another person –he is next to impossible to coerce. He won’t whine, or bluster, but he’s a slitherer-outer through and through. Somehow he will wriggle out of it. It’s practically magic, the way he escapes things.Still, he’s a loyal sort. When things are tough and terrible and scary and a friend needs him, really needs him, he’ll stick by their side. Need comfort? Sympathy? He has a five-year-old sister who looks to him for both, he can give that, too. (Though he readily acknowledges that teenage girls are very different from five-year-old ones.) Even if he isn’t so good with words (or as careful with them as he’d like) Micah has a shoulder for crying on and an ear for venting to. He’s a good listener, so long as you aren’t expecting him to... you know. Speak back.Because at the end of the day, he’s the quiet sort—introverted though easygoing, prone to introspection even in the middle of having fun. He broods, for all that he’s really quite cheerful, and values his time away from people as much he does what he spends with his friends. And because of this– or at least, partly because of this– Micah loves nature. Herbology, hiking, birdwatching, stargazing—even weeding, he loves it. There is something inexplicably calming about it, he finds, sinking fingers and toes into the soil, wriggling them in the richness of it and being surrounded by lush, green and non-human things while the sun warms his face, to the point that finding him outside– laid out on the ground and soaking up his surroundings –a common occurrence.HistoryThe eldest– well, only son of Idina Selwyn and Bowen Gallagher, a halfblood from Drogheda who’d been passing through –Micah’s childhood was, for a few years, a relatively simple one. His parents, having married about a year or so before he was born, settled down in Bristol and lived in a cozy two-bedroom across the street from Bowen’s mother. Money was a bit tight; Idina, a disowned Selwyn, had to fight to claim the rest of her inheritance (which itself cost a pretty sickle), and Bowen, a naturalist, didn’t make much to begin with. But expenses aside, they lived happily, if a bit on the spendthrift side. For a while, it was nice. Cozy. More importantly, it was peaceful. It was also the most formative of his years, and for that there is some regret. After a childhood encounter with a hag went wrong, Micah was left cursed, traumatized, and without a father. Eaten by guilt and his metamorph ability warped beyond recognition, the boy withdrew into himself, his self-esteem plummeting so severely it never quite recovered. After the funeral, Idina packed up their things, moving them to an old apartment building in London: Dorothea’s Apartments for Wayward Witches & Wizards. There, the building shook constantly, and the neighborhood wasn’t very... nice... But the tenants were a good lot, as was its landlady. More importantly, it was—away. Far away.About a month and a half later, Lianne was born. Red-faced and squalling (much like a mandrake root), she was a loud baby. No one was surprised when she grew up to be an even louder kid.It was nice, though. School, on the other hand... Micah was as anxious about starting as he was anxious to start. He had to get fitted for a wand –which was its own anxiety– and be Sorted, which meant worrying about fitting in. But in the end, he needn’t have worried; Sorted into Hufflepuff, Micah was able to make friends among the more accepting of his housemates—although his oldest friendships would always come first. Closest of them all were Ji-Hyun Jeun, his childhood best friend from when he first lived in Bristol. With her, making it through the year – and every obstacle and tragedy that came with it – was less of a hardship than it could have been.As the Tournament comes to a close and their last year looms near, Micah finds himself worrying about life after Hogwarts; while some of his peers seem to have their paths cut out for them, his isn’t nearly so clear. But maybe that’s a good thing.Classes & Clubs[ CORE CLASSES ]AstronomyCharmsDefense Against the Dark ArtsHerbologyPotions[ ELECTIVES ]Care of Magical CreaturesMuggle StudiesHerbology ClubHow do you fit into your House?Hardworking and diligent, honest, openminded and loyal, Micah embodies every value of the Badger house. Unafraid of failure, when there is something that needs doing – be it homework, a favor, or simply sticking by a friend – he’ll do it. And so long as you’re a decent person, he won’t judge. (At least, not much. And even then he’ll still help you anyway.)SummaryA shy, softhearted kid who nevertheless appears more confident than he actually is, Micah straddles that lonely fence between innocent and worldly; as a survivor, he’s a sturdy, practical sort, but at the same time he’s withdrawn so far into himself that he can be a little oblivious at times, especially about his effect on others. He might look like a scamp, but in the end, if there’s anyone who needs protecting, it’s probably him. What do they use it for?Micah tries not to use it unless he has to defend himself or someone else. For him, using it too often or for too long is a dangerous, slippery slope, and as a result he is very fearful and anxious about anyone finding out about it, and has low self-esteem.Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability.Micah can use it at will, but because of the hag’s curse he can only assume frightening, even gruesome changes to his appearance—and because he tries not to shapeshift except under pressing or stressful circumstances (something that perpetuates the curse’s corrupting influence), staying in an altered form past a certain amount of time makes him cruel, violent and easily triggered, and the longer he stays like that, the harder it is for him to change back.He can assume forms of others, but they are always disfigured, rotten—sometimes even demonic. Only after a lengthy amount of time do they improve. But in Micah’s case, that is far from a good thing. Skip to next post
