She has a narrow build, thin joints, and stands at an impressive 148 cm. Her dark reddish-brown hair falls to her shoulder-blades, and is always worn down. Freckles across her cheekbones stand out against her fair skin, and thin, sharp eyebrows sit above her grey-green eyes. Under her Hogwarts robes, she wears the standard uniform: White shirt (top button undone), Ravenclaw tie (slightly loose), sleeveless grey jumper, mid-thigh grey skirt, white knee socks, and black shoes. She walks with purpose - not fast, per se, but with a destination in mind. She has excellent posture, and her lilting, almost sing-song voice is in stark contrast with her matter-of-fact way of speaking.Personality Looking at Iris, one might assume she is a rulebound, bookish prude. This is demonstrably false. Iris has a quick wit and a tongue to match, and loves nothing more than to volley words back and forth like a ping-pong ball. The rush she gets from an intellectual challenge is comparable to flying, and debate is her favorite way of exercising her mind. She sees everything as a challenge, to be analysed and dismantled, and this extends to rules. She doesn't break rules for the sake of breaking rules, but she does ignore the ones she things are pointless or wrong. This applies to social conventions as well, leading her to sometimes make people uncomfortable.A mannerism of Iris' is to put her hand down (not quite slamming it, but enough for it to make a solid thumping noise) when making a point, and when she's about to launch into an explanation, she raises her eyebrows and draws in a deep breath. This almost always happens on the word "because." It makes her seem condescending, but she doesn't know that. She considers herself a "creatively logical" person, employing inventive methods to circumvent issues and debunk opponents' arguments.Iris is driven by a quest for answers. She knows it's impossible to know everything, but she'd like to get as close as possible. She wants to open her mind, hear new opinions, learn how to support her own. She is easily discouraged, but she knows if she ever wants to beat her father in debate, she has to keep working. For this reason, she embraces anything that will present her with an opportunity to learn more.History Iris was born in Winchester on a blustery March day. She was raised primarily by her father, as her mother was and remains a very busy woman with a job that requires her to travel more often than not. Her father taught her nearly everything she knows, from maths to writing to debate. He also taught her the importance of questioning everything, especially that which seems most obvious. When the telephone spontaneously combusted after a particularly frustrating lesson, he taught her about the Wizarding world and Hogwarts and what to expect in the coming years.Being homeschooled, Iris didn't meet many kids her age, and being raised in Winchester, the ones she did meet weren't magical. She didn't make friends easily, as she preferred to read and gather information than play in the grass.Learning about magic was Iris' favorite subject. After the fateful telephone incident, her father told her about magic, and she constantly pressed him for more information. Was he magical? (Yes.) Did she get to go to magic school? (Also yes.) Did he? (Yep.) What was it like? Are there lots of magic people? What kinds of magic are there? She was ecstatic when she got her letter (although somewhat surprised when an owl decided her bedroom was objectively the best place to deliver it) and begged her father to take her shopping for supplies immediately.Classes Core ClassesAstronomyCharmsDefense Against the Dark ArtsHerbologyHistory of MagicPotionsTransfigurationFlyingElectives-----How do you fit into your house? Iris embodies several Ravenclaw archetypes: She's quick-witted, she has a critical mind, and she can be fiercely competitive when it comes to winning arguments. While less typically Ravenclaw, she also has the willingness to push the boundaries to find answers.Writing Sample Iris had been told to expect a letter from a magical school. She had not been informed that said letter would be delivered by owl. It flew in through her bedroom window, landing on her wooden desk and scattering papers everywhere."Was that really necessary?" she asked the bird, "I just organised everything."She picked up the bird and put it on her bed while she put her papers back in order. As she left to tell her father about the letter, she glanced around her room. The walls, which were literally floor-to-ceiling cork-boards, were covered in bits of paper, which in turn were covered with Iris' ideas, scribbled down as she thought of them and tacked to the wall later. Her bed was made (for once), blue-grey punctuating the cork-and-paper scrapbook that was her room. Satisfied that everything was in order, she picked the owl up and brought it downstairs to the kitchen, where she knew her father would be reading the paper.Sum up your character in one paragraph Iris is sharp-tongued, sometimes mouthy eleven year old, whose personality fills the space she does not. She's looking forward to her time at Hogwarts, and meeting more wizarding kids. She's prepared for whatever life throws at her She may be small but she feels ready to take on the world with style.
