[May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] on June 15, 2014, 08:32:50 PM Title taken from the quote, "Seeing much, suffering much, and studying much, are the three pillars of learning," by Benjamin DesraeliIt had been a couple of days since staying out past curfew and her feelings had simmered down at least a little about it. In all fairness, Jordyn really didn’t know what time it was and once she knew she did try and get them back as quickly as possible. She’d gotten mud all over her shoes in the process. If that wasn’t a sign of rushing, she didn’t know what was. But, it was what it was, and she’d panicked and fixated on it enough to finally have the anxiety associated simmer down into a vague disappointment. It wasn’t as though many people knew about it. Of course she’d told Neely, but only because she’d crawled directly into her friend’s bed and cried to her about it. Thankfully, the blonde witch always knew how to cheer her up and after some late night magazine flipping, she’d been able to control her sniffles and then disappear into her own plush bed to try and sleep. Recovered, thankfully, and feeling more like herself, at least Jordyn had other things to focus on: the potions parchment was going to be the death of her. It was really something you needed to be in berbology as well to do, and Jordyn wasn’t in that. So, off to the library she went, carrying her books with her, though the long sleeves of her (well, not really her…) sweater were getting in the way. She’d been cold earlier during class and thankfully Jai lent her his cardigan. It was cozy, but much too long for her. Thankfully, it wasn’t too tight even though Jai was probably almost a foot taller than her and very thin. The sleeves were just too long. Putting her books on the table, Jordyn rolled the sleeves up over her gloves and reached up to push her hair behind her ears. She took a deep breath, reminding herself that she needed all of this in order to be the healer she wanted to be and she had to do it well. They weren’t going to take unqualified people (who disregarded curfew and got caught with their boyfriends) into internships for the summer. Then she’d never get out of her parents’ house and she’d be destitute and a failure forever… really, it wasn’t the path she was going to go down. It was nice then, to have this time to study without Jai (despite being in the same classes). He got so distracted sometimes, and she was much more serious about school… She shook her head and sat down at the table, readying her work station with her quills, parchment, and books laid out just as she liked them. The events that took place only 2 days ago still simmered in her stomach, causing an uncomfortable feeling of unhappiness and grief. Misery was a harsh word to use for such feelings, but that's exactly how she felt: miserable. The only boy in her life she trusted her life with and they were no longer friends... or so it seemed. Atticus had made it very clear that he didn't know how he felt anymore and that could mean anything: even the loss of a friend. Winona had decided to take her mind off such nonsense. It was in the past... but how could such terrible feelings go away in under 48 hours? The library was like a haven to her. The crisp scent of old papers, the breaking down bindings of books, and the smell of fresh ink against crisp parchment would make her feel a lot better. She took her DADA books, a quill and some parchment holding them in her hands as she took the steps down to the library. Elian was off somewhere this evening and quite frankly, she was not in the mood to bug him with her problems. It felt refreshing to the heart and core knowing that her first boyfriend was the one who stood by her even when she turned into some half-bird like creature nearly killing a boy in front of her. She was so disappointed in herself. It was nearly 3 years since her last accident, and that one came so quickly. Swallowing hard, she sighed, shaking her head. She was grateful that sweaters were long sleeved. Her forearms were still darkly bruised, scratches running up and down from them. Entering the library, her eyes did their usual sweep over the personnel in the room. Her teeth nibbled at her lip, the nervous tick making her feel much better. The blue irises noticed a familiar person sitting at a table, Potions books next to her. Winona walked over slowly and took a seat in front of her, setting her own books down. Jordyn reminded Winona of her mother, Athena. Something about being acceptably or decently dressed? Something along those lines, and yet Winona didn't want to think about it. "Hello, stranger," her soft British voice said in a quiet whisper. Crossing her legs, she smiled and held her chin in her hand, elbow on the table. "Where have you been hiding?" Her blue eye twinkled with curiosity. Winona hasn't seen her around, and well-- she wanted to know where she was cooping herself up at. Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #2 on June 16, 2014, 05:10:43 PM Jordyn was just about ready with her pre-study ritual. Everything was in its place and she could begin. It was one of those things . She was sure everyone had a preferred way of doing homework, whether it was as meticulously as she liked to or not, and flicked open the book with her wand, the correct page pre-marked with a glossy, green ribbon she had used to tie her hair once upon a time. Ribbons were so out, unless of course being used ironically in the face of growing up, but Jordyn preferred to be less… provocative about her clothing choices. She was fairly straightforward: presentable, monotone, and classic. Ribbons would add a twinge of youth and nostalgia that she did not want. Either way, the ribbon suited a good purpose now and she looked at the title of the chapter with a heavy sigh. She’d probably need to get the herbology book as well… ”Mixing with Mniaceae.” She wasn’t even sure she remembered what that was. Something about mosses… but she needed to know more. Sighing, Jordyn figured she could at least read what she had to before she got up again. As she was about to start reading the chapter, she did notice a little movement around her, surprised when she heard the chair and then finally flicked her brown eyes upward and was surprised. She didn’t hang about with Ravenclaws very often, though they tended to have similar personalities (the hat had briefly considered the house for Jordyn, but ultimately decided the legacy of Slytherin was more suitable – thankfully), but she did know who Winona was. Being in the same year did that sort of thing, and classes and whatnot… it was inevitable. The friendliness with which the girl approached was a little strange for Jordyn, but she didn’t have any reason to be unfriendly. It wasn’t as though she was looking forward to reading about Mniaceae. “Hello Winona,” she greated, trying not to seem weirded out at the question about where she’d been hiding. It seemed unlikely that Winona would have been looking for her. “You know, classes have been ramping up before the end of the year,” she shrugged. “Studying, mostly.”She tapped her gloved hands on the book in front of her: it wasn’t as though she needed to disclose anything else. “And yourself?” Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #3 on June 17, 2014, 05:50:30 PM Jordyn Dimbleby... If one were to ask the status and relationship of Winona and Jordyn, one would most likely get two very different answers. And it all depended on whom you decided to ask. Winona wasn't exactly a fan of Jordyn, but there was some tolerance due to the similarities they shared. They both had determination, if that was a word one wanted to use for it. Winona had known... or, might she say, known of Jordyn for quite some time. The two had met in her second year. To be quite frank, Winona had a sour taste in her mouth every time after she would talk to Jordyn. She had no idea what made her so... weird. Winona felt like they potential to be very good friends, but in the end, Winona would change her mind and resort to just being Jordyn's enemy.. and yet, there was a potential friendship. Frenemies. It was somewhat obvious to Winona that the situation was in a weird place. If someone she hadn't seen in a couple of weeks came up and began talking to her (mind you, they don't have the best relationship ever), she would be at some sort of a weird middle. Winona nodded some in a unconscious agreement with the Slytherin. Despite how much she adored writing essays and that sort of thing, the Professors were really piling it on them before the summer. Winona's free hand gently ran over her old Potions book as she gave a shrug to answer Jordyn's question. "Oh.. I've been.. here and there, I guess you could say." She swallowed some, and sat up. With the hand that was holding her chin, she began to fiddle with the ends of her hair. "Like you said, classes are really getting thicker." Her blue eyes went down to look at the books and the paper. "I do apologize. I know this is awkward, I just haven't seen you around and well, you didn't seem to eager to be doing what you're doing. A friendly hello, I thought would've been nice." Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #4 on June 18, 2014, 06:06:00 AM Jordyn nodded in agreement at Winona's assessment of classes. The end of the year was certainly not coming to a gradual decline, it seemed to be ramping up and they'd only feel relief once they were on the train and headed back toward London. That was the final point of Jordyn's journey, but she knew others who would disperse from there and spend their summers all over the United Kingdom and Ireland. "I suppose it's all to prepare us for next year," she added with a slight shrug. Professors would do what professors wanted to do, regardless, but if Jordyn could put some method into their madness, it would be better for everyone. Of course, Jordyn hadn't felt entirely awkward until Winona pointed out how awkward the interaction was. Was that a Ravenclaw trait: putting forth the obvious? Jordyn had never really minded Winona, truth be told, they did not cross paths often with different circles of friends and interests, so their interactions, infrequent at best, were usually neutral, or even cordial. Until she saw her in class or in a slightly social situation, such as this, Jordyn's mind was otherwise occupied. "There's no need to apologize," Jordyn informed the girl (she figured she'd keep her observation about how it wasn't awkward until someone made it that way to herself). At least one of Winona's deductions was true: she was not eager to begin reading about moss and its use in potions. It'd be akin to watching paint dry. She glanced down at the book, the work looming over her, but then back up at Winona. She wouldn't be rude for the sake of being rude, that wasn't particularly Jordyn like. Usually, it waranted a reason and Winona hadn't given her one as of yet. "This potions work is maddening," she informed Winona, finding it easier to talk about work than anything else. She wasn't sure how much they actually had in common, outside of desire to succeed, but even then, Jordyn was pretty sure their motivations were probably quite different. "I'll be happy to be on the train in a couple of weeks." Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #5 on June 21, 2014, 12:31:55 PM "I suppose it's all to prepare us for next year."She had a huge point there. Next year was Winona's last year and just the thought of it made her insides churn like butter. Her career goals were nowhere near ready and she was caught between so many different choices. Her mother was a stay at home mother.. there was no need for her mother to work when her father was quite wealthy. The wealth never altered Winona's view of life as most rich kids grow up. In fact, she didn't care much for it. Money and luxury were just add-ons to her already nice life. She was a truly happy girl. Her attention returned to what was currently going on: the conversation she was having Jordyn. She didn't know what to say when she told her that she didn't have to apologize, so Winnie gave a silent nod. Her blue eyes scanned around the library. Socializing really wasn't one of her strong suits, but that last thing she wanted was for this conversation to come off awkward. What made it even more.. weird, is that their sort of relationship was one where no label fit. Enemies seemed too harsh because there were things about Jordyn that Winona didn't mind. But, friends would be too light considering there were more things that sort of bothered her about the girl. Yet, she still decided to engage the conversation because it seemed like it had been awhile. "This potions work is maddening.Winona felt the edges of her lips curve into a small, empathetic smile. She knew definitely what she was talking about. "Potions isn't really one of my... first choices as a favorite class." In fact, Potions was her least favorite, with Charms and DADA at a near tie for first. "It's too much detail, and while detail could be very nice in some cases.. it's too overbearing in Potions.""I'll be happy to be on the train in a couple of weeks."A couple of weeks? Hearing it made it seem like such a short time left... Winona felt her smile wither some and she looked down in her lap. That only meant Elian would only have a couple more weekends with her until he left for Hit Wizard training. Her fingers fiddled with the ends of her hair and she sighed gently through her nose. "It'll be nice.. no school for a change." She felt herself force another smile, not wanting to bring the looming tension over them again. "Do you have any plans for your summer?" She asked, looking back at her. Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #6 on June 21, 2014, 03:11:18 PM Jordyn wasn’t sure she agreed with the girl’s assessment of potions, but it was incredibly detailed and precise, which was usually part of the reason Jordyn enjoyed it so much. She liked the rigidity of a discipline that required her to know what she was doing, to be aware of what she was doing at any point. She also actually enjoyed the Potions professor, for all her intimidation and strictness, she knew her subject and demanded perfection. Simpering was frowned upon, which she also liked. She supposed she liked Storm for much the same reason, though she had trouble looking him straight in the eyes at this point. She decided, rather than arguing about potions and its attention to detail, she’d just shrug and an uncommitted, “It can be.” Conversation was, at least more on an even keel with the idea of the summer. Jordyn could see there was some hesitation on Winona’s face. Jordyn would be lying if she wasn’t either. She didn’t want ot be near her family for that long, first and foremost. She didn’t hate her parents, but she didn’t like them, and that was enough. Plus, with her internship and whatever it was Jai intended to do, Jordyn wasn’t sure how their very new relationship would stand against the summer. She supposed there wasn’t room to worry about it. She was notoriously terrible at divination, so trying to figure out the future would be futile. “Agreed,” Jordyn began to smile, despite her misgivings. A break from classes, even with all her other worries, was welcome. “I’m applying for an internship at St. Mungo’s,” Jordyn explained her plans out, “and hopefully going on holiday in France with Neely.” She didn’t mention their fellow classmate’s last name, it was a given: everyone must have known who Neely Woolfolk was. She did want to go on holiday. “What about you?” she asked genuinely interested in what summer held for others. Plus, she could potentially figure out if she was looking at another potential rival for Head Girl. Jordyn never knew what was going to go on in some people’s brains and if she had the capacity to be compeition, Jordyn would like to keep tabs. But, not everyone will be your friend, and not everyone will care to socialize. Just hold your head high and be the best Veela you can," her mother's voice echoed in her mind.If such things were important in life, why weren't they priorities on Winnie's list? She couldn't possibly begin to think when whatever everyone else thought was more important then your own. Judging from Jordyn's simple shrug, and lack of a bothered answer, Winona had a simpering feeling that there was more Jordyn wanted to say. Being the most nosey, precocious girl, Winona could feel the temptation to ask her if she had more to add to that; but she kept her mouth shut and gave a simple smile. Smiles are what brought Winona through the day as if it were nothing. People would try and talk to her when she didn't really feel like it, and she'd smile them away. More people she didn't like, and she'd smile at them to show that she didn't want to talk. Despite some rumors about her to being a social butterfly, Winona did her fair share of talking and she had some acquaintances around Hogwarts. It felt nice that she had agreed on something during this conversation, a genuine agreement between the two. Books, learning... new spells and everything, Winona wanted to learn it all, but everyone needs a break at some time. Plus, she wanted to spend a lot of time with Elian before he went off to training. It felt weird. This was Winona's first boyfriend, and he was leaving her so soon. Her jaw clenched some before she looked away. Some first years had stumbled in, looking quite confident with themselves. Winona could only just picture herself when she discovered how amazing the library here was. "An internship?" She repeated, not really hearing due to her wandering conscious. Her blue eyes looked back at the Slytherin girl. "That's great, actually. Do you know particularly what career field you hope to enter? Or are you dipping your feet in the shark ridden waters?" "What about you?"That was a good question that Winnie did not have a good answer to. "Well.. I--" She stopped, before looking down at her hands in her lap. Plans were so foggy for her in the near future and yet, she didn't want to tell Jordyn Dimbleby that she had nothing planned. "My mother does plan a trip to Italy. Something about meeting my other side. And... who knows? I may try and see if they have an internship open at the Ministry of Magic.. I've been mulling over an Auror career lately, but I am leaning towards becoming a Professor for DADA." Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #8 on June 25, 2014, 04:58:24 PM “Fortunately, I am far from shark infested waters,” Jordyn carried the other girl’s metaphor into the conversation. “Hopefully, I’ll be doing my turn at St. Mungo’s, perhaps in artifacts.” She wasn’t certain where she’d have the most luck, but with experience in each she’d be able to make a much more informed decision going into seventh year. She was excited though. It was a step toward independence and adulthood. Even if it wasn’t the most exciting – in terms of holidays and adventures – break in the world, she was going to be doing something that would advance her later on and perhaps lead to those sorts of holidays, like the ones her classmates took. “Italy sounds lovely,” Jordyn commented, which was true. She’d have liked to go there one day - maybe to the countryside with the warm breeze and some mountains. It probably looked like any other countryside, but with Italian wine and food (neither made by her), she could imagine it would be so much better. Her other plans seemed less concrete, but at Winona’s aspirations, Jordyn couldn’t help the way her eyebrows raised. “That’s certainly a long term goal,” she said, referencing the DADA professorship. One, she didn’t see Storm letting anyone take that from his icy grip for the rest of his lifetime, and if it was like Professor Binns (of lore), he’d probably die and continue to teach. “I suppose Auror is one way to go about building the necessary experience to get that job,” she added, not wanting to come off too judgmental. She had judged, of course, based on what she said – as though either option were just floating in the air ready to be plucked by anyone who decided that’s what they wanted. “I imagine research, or any number of other ministry positions could prepare one for such a thing as well,” she added, thinking of the department of mysteries. She could see Professor Storm going to the secret area of the ministry and doing all sorts of nefarious things. Yes, that seemed entirely appropriate (even if it wasn’t true – she wasn’t sure anyone knew his real backstory). Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #9 on June 25, 2014, 07:09:26 PM “But for teaching, though?”Emerging from the stacks looking infuriatingly perfect as ever, Theo approached their table, head cocked to the side and a look of genuine puzzlement clouding his face. A frequent visitor of the library– when he could be bothered to leave the dungeons, that is, or from Alex’s side, which was so often preferable to the company of most –the prefect was fond of the quiet that could be found within its halls and the vast, towering shelves that lined them. Even back then, as a first year, Theo admired its seemingly fathomless reserves, the suggestion of impossibility in reading its every book, the obvious gravitas that came with age. There had always been a quality, a palpable one, of potential...It was also, perhaps, a magnet for more human interest for the boy. The library, he’d found, attracted all types, but there would always be those who caught his specific brand of interest. Jordyn Dimbleby was one such example, Winona Watson, another. The two, however, were as dissimilar as they weren’t, and for all that they shared classes and – presumably – acquaintances, they didn’t typically enjoy one another’s company. Or rather, he knew Jordyn didn’t; he couldn’t possibly presume all there was to know about Winona. The Ravenclaw had held only the most marginal amount of interest when her magical heritage was learned of, and even then it had been a short-lived thing.Theo looked at her now with the air of one vaguely perplexed. It was a noticeable difference from the indifferent looks he had given her before. But then, trying to divine the logic behind any desire to enter law enforcement, or entering education that way, would puzzle anyone, he was sure. “Perhaps they should have another career fair for you,” Theo told her, looking at her thoughtfully. Then his eyes slid toward Jordyn, and the corners of his lips twitched into a small, small smile. “Dimbleby.” Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #10 on June 25, 2014, 08:48:24 PM “That’s certainly a long term goal."Winona swallowed hard, her eyes shyly going back in her lap. Her fingers groped themselves, turning themselves over and over. Her lips pursed some as she made a slight face, as if she had a sour candy. Her blue eyes heightened to look at Jordyn. "It's a goal nonetheless," she said simply. "It's better to have a goal thats unreachable than to not have a goal at all." All she could do was stick to it, despite it's ever changing form. It was at this moment that only Winona could see her boggart transforming into job applications and a future. It seemed odd for her to be worried, so worked up, over something that most students had engraved in their hearts by their fourth year. She was never behind on things like this and yet, she wanted to make sure she chose the right career path for her. It was hard for a Veela... Things were always stereotyped off of looks, beauty...sex drive? Winona despised carrying Veela in her blood and she couldn't fathom it, never.“But for teaching, though?” A confused looked ran across her face as she looked to see a boy emerge from the bookshelves. The look on her face ran from confusion to curiosity. Her blue eyes took in the boys appearance. It was like clockwork whenever Winona met another person. While appearance didn't phase Winona, she did like to check out most people and the way they carried themselves. The boy was... really handsome. Her jaw clenched some, and her hands made little tiny fists in her lap until they released some and she rested her arms nicely on the table. The stranger was... A Slytherin perhaps? Winona felt her hopes shoot down a couple of notches. Just what she needed... Two Slytherins and a Ravenclaw who was a shy little Veela. As Jordyn spoke again, Winona turned her attention to her. The hints of judging hit Winona and she tried hard not to roll her eyes. Such judgmental terms made Winona want to swiftly kick someone's ass, but she swallowed her pride and moved on. "Well... I know for a certain percentage that Auror is one of my high goals, as well as DADA professor. I have a passion for.. such things." She smirked some, tucking a loose strand of brown curls behind her ear. "I feel it may be just what I need: a challenge.""Perhaps they should have another career fair for you." Winona rose a brow and she shrugged it. "I honestly don't feel like it'll help. The last one was a flop, sort of, for me." She cupped her chin, elbow on the table. Her eyes watched the interaction between Theo and Jordyn. Being in this sort of situation was making Winona feel sick to her stomach. "I really should get going," she muttered, sitting back in the chair. A small smile crossed her lips at a thought she had. "I figured that right now, such company is going to just deter me from what I actually plan on doing." She gave a dainty shrug, a look on her face, the smile still there. "Have.. fun, with the Potions," she said to Jordyn. She stood, smoothing her skirt down some. "And.. have a good one.. whomever.. you are?" She asked, not knowing the boy's name. Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #11 on June 25, 2014, 09:09:48 PM “Unreachable and long term are two very different things,” Jordyn pointed out. She didn’t like words being put in her mouth. She was a realist by nature. Ambition with the unattainable dreams often set one up for a lifetime of complete and abject failure. That was of no interest to Jordyn. Life had enough disappointments one couldn’t avoid, so adding to them seemed like a fool’s choice. With enough planning, Winona could probably achieve her goals -it just wasn’t a flippant ‘I’d maybe like to do this thing,’ sort of decision. Perhaps there was more thought behind it than that, but Jordyn could only go off what she said and her tone: she wasn’t a mind reader. She would have added to what she was saying until Theo came out from the bookshelves. He was… a champion of sorts in Slytherin: the poster boy for what it meant to be a good student, a good prefect, and somehow never get his hands dirty, at least not in front of anyone in a position to do anything about it. “Passion certainly helps along the way,” Jordyn mentioned, seeing the smirk on the girls face. She wasn’t sure what was supposed to be smirk-worthy about it, but Theo certainly found something ‘funny’ to say in it, suggestion another career fair and Jordyn rolled her eyes. She might not have understood just what the girl wanted out of her life, but she did know Theo being an antagonist probably wasn’t going to help. She looked up at Theo as he finally acknowledged her presence and Jordyn sighed. “Afternoon, Whitman,” she greeted coolly. There was no bad blood between them, but Jordyn wasn’t Theo’s biggest fan, and sometimes felt a little bit of a rivalry to do better, be better, merely because she looked for people to push her to excellence. Theo was one of those people. Plus, they’d been prefects together for quite some time – it was a natural sort of pattern to fall into. She looked up, confused as Winona suddenly declared she should be going and pursed her lips just a little. “Have a good afternoon?” Jordyn half-declared, half-asked, still confused about why she was suddenly gone. Theo could be a pill, of course, but it didn’t mean conversation ahd to really be cut short. Jordyn looked up to Theo and sighed. “Your manners triumph once again.” Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #12 on June 26, 2014, 12:12:49 AM Winona’s eyes darted between them, wary. Well, thought Theo idly, as her expression began to tense. At least she was observant. But clearly not that observant, if after six years of shared classes, a renowned surname, and a more recent upgrade to prefect status she still didn’t know who he was. And if a little bit of familiarity with an acquaintance was enough to frighten her away...Theo looked away from her with a shrug. “My manners are impeccable,” he corrected Jordyn, smiling serenely. “They can hardly be held accountable for so faint a disposition.”He took Winona’s seat then, dropping into it as though it had always been his, and leaned forward, blue eyes bright with curiosity once again. “Sometimes I can’t tell whether you’re scoping out your competition,” he drawled, propping his chin in the heel of his palm, “or you’re slumming it with people who shouldn’t be. As your peer, Dimbleby, should I be concerned?” Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #13 on June 26, 2014, 05:51:52 PM Jordyn looked at Theo with raised eyebrows. He knew very well what he had said and done, and while he wasn’t outwardly offensive, he certainly had a way about him that could scare people off. To some degree, Jordyn thought he might have done it on purpose to be able to slide into her chair and try and be innocent and concerned. It was clear to Jordyn that he had some sort of motive (beyond making things awkward for Winona) in coming over. Tilting her head to the side, Jordyn folded her hands over the book in front of her and pursed her lips as he started speaking. She didn’t like the observation. “I do not slum,” she informed him. That was a despicable way to put things, and it made her think that perhaps Theo was referring to more than just Winona, which she liked even less. He was her peer, that was true, and his concern was interesting. She never considered he might have thoughts about such things. “So there is no need for concern,” she informed him, trying not to sound as tightly wound as she really was. “Besides, even if I were, it’s not as though you’d have any say in it,” she raised her eyebrows, wondering if he was going to respond to that. Skip to next post Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #14 on July 09, 2014, 02:54:53 AM “Perhaps not,” he acquiesced with a slight nod of his head—neither agreeing nor disagreeing. It was true enough, insofar as it actually mattered, or that he even cared; the free will of others was not something he thought of, much. If anything, it was but a small and humorous detail. And Jordyn Dimbleby’s had always been one of the more amusing ones, the kind that could be left to its own devices and still, somehow, never fail to entertain.Still... “We are Slytherin,” he said, tone gentling into one that, perhaps, could be construed as chiding. “As such, we look out for our own.”He was not one for House platitudes, Theo; at best, they were helpful, a bit of light for those fumbling in the dark. But like a ray of light in the darkness, they had a way of inhibiting vision, blinding one to possibility. If they were all that one followed, as mindless as any sheep, then they were little more than restrictions. It was that very reason why he had bothered to pass comment at all.Any more, he felt, would be tantamount holding one’s hand. Coddling. Besides: he always preferred to watch one flounder.“Do you harbor a secret urge to teach?” he asked her, easing back into his seat—the sudden lift to his lips, teasing. Eyes raking over her in a careless sweep, Theo studied her as one might skim a page. He supposed she might make a good one; she always was a bit more sensitive, nicer, than what was good for her. And teaching always seemed to require a basic minimum of it, if only to reinforce acceptable displays of intelligence and behavior. And it wasn’t that he thought so little of the profession, oh no; rather, he respected it. Having tutored others himself– and playing witness to the foolishness of his own classmates in action– the prefect knew it was no easy task in and of itself, much less making a living from it. No, it was the idea of Watson doing just that –and diverging from entire careers, just for that – when she couldn’t even accept what she was. Or, more importantly, retain some basic, public information. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #1 on June 16, 2014, 03:41:01 PM This particular day hung over Winona like a thick fog, barricading her sights from the happiness she should be feeling. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #2 on June 16, 2014, 05:10:43 PM Jordyn was just about ready with her pre-study ritual. “And yourself?” Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #3 on June 17, 2014, 05:50:30 PM Jordyn Dimbleby... A friendly hello, I thought would've been nice." Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #4 on June 18, 2014, 06:06:00 AM Jordyn nodded in agreement at Winona's assessment of classes. "I'll be happy to be on the train in a couple of weeks." Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #5 on June 21, 2014, 12:31:55 PM "I suppose it's all to prepare us for next year."She had a huge point there. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #6 on June 21, 2014, 03:11:18 PM Jordyn wasn’t sure she agreed with the girl’s assessment of potions, but it was incredibly detailed and precise, which was usually part of the reason Jordyn enjoyed it so much. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #7 on June 24, 2014, 10:04:17 PM "Now, Winona, it's always good to make sure you make friends. I've been mulling over an Auror career lately, but I am leaning towards becoming a Professor for DADA." Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #8 on June 25, 2014, 04:58:24 PM “Fortunately, I am far from shark infested waters,” Jordyn carried the other girl’s metaphor into the conversation. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #9 on June 25, 2014, 07:09:26 PM “But for teaching, though?”Emerging from the stacks looking infuriatingly perfect as ever, Theo approached their table, head cocked to the side and a look of genuine puzzlement clouding his face. “Dimbleby.” Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #10 on June 25, 2014, 08:48:24 PM “That’s certainly a long term goal."Winona swallowed hard, her eyes shyly going back in her lap. Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #11 on June 25, 2014, 09:09:48 PM “Unreachable and long term are two very different things,” Jordyn pointed out. “Your manners triumph once again.” Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #12 on June 26, 2014, 12:12:49 AM Winona’s eyes darted between them, wary. As your peer, Dimbleby, should I be concerned?” Skip to next post
Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #13 on June 26, 2014, 05:51:52 PM Jordyn looked at Theo with raised eyebrows. Re: [May 9] The Three Pillars of Learning [Winona, PM] Reply #14 on July 09, 2014, 02:54:53 AM “Perhaps not,” he acquiesced with a slight nod of his head—neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
