It is stained dark, with a spiraled infexible shaft.Physical Description: Atticus is average height if not a little tall, standing just at six feet on a good day. He has fair skin, murky brown eyes and messy dark brown hair. His face is often covered with a wide mischevious smile as he is almost always scheming or participating in some form of shenanigans. He is lean but not bulky or overly muscular, with most of his exercise being oriented towards climbing, crouching and crawling at night when on the search for information. His physical talents lie in coordination and endurance over brute strength as he sees the modern wizard's duel lacking in need for brute strength. He usually dresses in dark colors, oftentimes wearing practical clothing that can also blend in with the muggle world. Atticus' goal is not to be noticed and he achieves that very well. Personality Description:In many ways Atticus is a walking paradox. He is both tremendously self-loathing while being narcissistic to his core. He is not an evil person, but he certainly possesses machiavellian tendencies. Atticus is very aware of his above-average intelligence, although he knows he isn't a genius. He appreciates and utilizes his gift by applying a tactical and analytic mind to everything in his life. Accompanied by his narcissism is occasional yet prideful arrogance. His self-assurance that he is always correct has been putting him in difficult situations since he began his magical schooling. A well-studied student of philosophy, Atticus knows that 'a wise man knows nothing' yet he struggles to keep himself in check at times.Outside of his view of himself Atticus is generally nice to others as long as they don't cross him. He's known for a temper when others betray his trust as he views it as a personal failure. When relaxed and non-confrontational Atticus makes jokes and laughs like any other adolescent among his friends. He enjoys a good time and also enjoys being the center of attention. Though at his core he is introverted, leading others to call him fickle, he thrives in the validation of his peers. Atticus finds himself daydreaming often while alone, plotting his next move in one of any number of "games" he's currently involved in - whether it's his lucrative information business or trying to achieve a new and lofty goal in life. He keeps a close circle of friends and confidants, those he reveals some of his plots and schemes to for feedback. While Atticus is fickle and hot-headed, he is a fierce friend to those who are loyal to him. He sees the world in stark black and white, with honor and loyalty among the most important traits to have in a person. He belives that when the die are cast, your family must be by your side.History:Atticus was born a healthy boy on a stormy night in Kenmare, Ireland to two proud half-blood parents. He had a rough childhood, his parents making a decent living but working long hours at various jobs so they could afford to send their boy to a private educational institution. It was evident at a young age that Atticus was a smart and curious boy, leading his parents to taking second jobs and even pursueing higher education so that they could afford his tuition. He did well in his schooling but developed a habit for mischief at a young age. He would trick his classmates into giving him their lunch desserts or favorite posessions or just outright stole from them. He was punished harshly when caught and learned that if he wanted to get what he wanted he would have to be more careful and safe about it.When Atticus turned eleven he recieved his Hogwarts letter. He had been anticipating it for his whole life and was bursting with excitement when he opened it. To Atticus, Hogwarts represented a way for him to take control over his life and destiny. The hidden path to knowledge and power surely lied at Hogwarts. He never understood why his parents worked mundane jobs when they both had magic and there was so much opportunity in the world to use it.Upon arriving at the school, Atticus was quickly sorted into Ravenclaw. His love for puzzles and solving problems lent well to the house. His early years at Hogwarts were unevenetful as he stuck to himself and excelled in classes. It was in his third year that he began to branch out and make connecitons. It wasn't as easy to manipulate his peers as it was in muggle school, something some pureblood students love to point out when calling him slurs. Atticus approached his muggleborn origins in a rather clinical way, concluding that one's origins of magic are irrelavent and anecdotal at best - it's what one does with said magic which defines his or her produndity and place in history. He came to a proverbial peace accord with his worst enemies with this argument and began to build connections throughout his year and eventually the rest of the school. Everyboduy knows Atticus, whether they like him or not. In Atticus' fourth year he discovered nonverbal spellcasting and legillimens. He immedietely became enamored with the idea of both casting spells nonverbally and diving into people's minds and began to practice. He soon realized what an incredible challenge it was. With non-verbal casting, began with simple spells and was met with little to no success. On the border of giving up, after almost half a year of trying Atticus was able to cast alohamora without saying a word. Excited that he finally achieved what he was been training for he continued fervently, and by the end of the first year he was able to cast a half dozen spells without saying a word - most of the time. He told himself he could without failure but in reality it wasn't true. The concentration required for the technique was a lot to ask for out of someone so young. Nonetheless Atticus continued his training for two years and a half and is now able to cast a all siple spells and a myriad of more intricate ones without failure. Out of arrogance he considers himself an master nonverbal spellcaster, however in truth he has barely broached the advanced level and is lucky to be where he is at that. To learn legillimens, Atticus paid some of his friends to be his guinea pigs for his practice and they happily accepted given it was also an opportunity for them to learn and practice occlumens. This went on until Atticus' expulsion from Hogwarts. He continues to this day to utilize and hone this talent through his doings as an information broker. In Atticus' fifth year he began to smuggle alcohol and tobacco into the school and became more social by joining the dueling club. It was time to experiment - and he enjoyed it. Becoming a smoker at age fifteen is never a good thing, but it helped with the stress and people paid boatloads of coin to get their hands on the drink and the smoke. He played it safe and only dealt to a small collection of peers he trusted but has begun to branch out in his sixth year as more of his classmates become interested in "partying". In terms of dueling, he quickly discovered while he was an average spellcaster he excelled in analying and using his environment to his advantage. He determined both through rading and his own contemplation that dueling is not a mutually-exclusive relatiosnhip betwen two wizards - the environment is an equally important factor. Opponents tend to assume that a conventional duelist will use primarily offensive magic directed solely at them and this is where Atticus excels. He believes unpredictability, misdirection and inhibiting his opponents ease and ability of spellcasting is where he will find his success.Painfully aware of the potential reprocussions Atticus did his best to operate through his associates so that the chain of custody wasn't in one person's hands too long. He did his best to keep himself safe, surviving from a mixture of strict standard operating procedures, bribes and threats. Atticus' smuggling business caused his marks to drop, something he acknowledged was a problem. Though he did not know what he wanted to do when he was out of school, criminal enterprise that could lead to a sentence in Azkaban, wasn't high up on the list. As a result he considered becoming an Auror and going one of two paths: either a) shape up and help enforce the law or b) use it as the perfect cover for his criminal enterprising. He loved the idea of the prestige that comes with being an Auror and felt the need to prove himself. The end of Atticus' sixth year at Hogwarts was marked by a series of unfortunate events which ultimately led to his expulsion. In short, one of the people he worked closely with to smuggle contraband into Hogwarts was caught in the act. After a disappointingly small amount of interrogation, he revealed that Atticus was the student he was working with to get the good inside the school. A nasty investigation followed and arrests were made. At the time, Atticus was underage so he was let off with no legal ramifications. He was, however, immediately expelled from the school at the conclusion of the investigation. This was a huge blow to Atticus as despite his nefarious side business, he was an excellent student and was poised to have his pick at nearly any job he wanted. Downtrodden and distressed, Atticus took what money he had and rented a flat in Knockturn Alley. It wasn't an ideal location, but it was cheap and it served it's purpose. For a few months following his expulsion, Atticus rarely left his apartment and instead chose to stew in his own displeasure. It wasn't until he overheard a shady business dealing around the corner from his apartment that it dawned on him what he should do next.Atticus had always been talented at most would consider nefarious wrongdoings. Whether it was a little intimidation to get some information, or organizing a smuggling ring right under the teacher's noses - Atticus was an expert. His downfall at Hogwarts was having too much trust in his partner. Atticus knew this and loathed it. He decided that any criminal operations he ran then on would be solo. He could work with people to attain what he wanted or needed to do, but as far as he is concerned at the end of the day it's about him. After six months of making contacts, flattering people who mattered and writing off those who didn't, Atticus began his career as an Information Broker and has been doing that ever since. He operates everywhere from dark alleys to extravagant mansions as he weaves through magical society gathering and selling information. His method vary from person to person but include and are not limited to assault, legillimens, threats, bribery, extortion and blackmail. While he hasn't killed anyone yet, he certainly hasn't written it off. Every situation has an ideal method to use to deal with it. Atticus prides himself in always knowing the best approach. Writing Sample:Atticus grunted as juked back and forth, jumping into a roll and then into a slide as he danced around an open area by the Hogwarts Lake. Every fourth or fifth movement was followed by a bright flash of light erupting from his wand, quickly to vanish after it flew a few dozen meters. He was practicing dueling, most specifically his use of nonverbal spellcasting as a strategy he employed to improve his unpredictability. Atticus recognized early on that verbal spellcasting gave away one's intetions to the enemy thus providing them the opportunity to counter one's spell, or otherwise evade it. By casting nonverbally the opponent is forced to watch Atticus' own movements more closely, distracting them from their own attack. This was only one aspect of his dueling technique. Atticus also if not primarily focused his attacks on the environment around his opponent to distract and/or inhibit their spellcasting. He referred to this strategy of combining distraction and inhibition 'defensive layering'.Crowd control. That was key. That's what all the muggle history books talked about when great empires won battles. 'An enemy cannot pull the trigger if he has no hand' Atticus thought to himself, something he had read long ago in some war fiction. Or perhaps it was a muggle movie. Nonetheless, Atticus thought it to be true and it became the central philosophy in his dueling technique. Most duelists focused very heavily on the attack - one mindedness in battle is how you get yourself killed. Should Atticus pursue being an Auror as the perfect cover for criminal operations, he would need these skills to keep him alive against the UK's worst dark wizards and nayerdowells.Atticus rolled forward and jumped up as hard as he could, pointing his wand behind him and shouting a spell that thrust him upward into the air. He was remiss that he couldn't exclusively cast spells nonverbally, but he just wasn't there yet. It required a lot of concentration and that was a hard feat to maintain in the midst of combat. Atticus flew fifteen feet into the air and tried to reposition his body to he could land into a roll and not hurt himself. Unfortunately as this was only the third or fourth time he tried this acrobatic act, he didn't get into position in time and he crashed into the ground hard. Atticus groaned loudly, cursing under his breath as he leaned forward and rubbed his shoulder. He needed to get into better shape to pull acts like that. He had never classicly trained in gymnastics or acrobatics so while in theory his schemes would work in battle he had yet the talent to pull it off. Something else on his long list of things to improve before graduation. It grew quicker than it shank and time was ticking. The school year was almost up so he had about a year to master his techniques before possibly applying at the Ministry, if not pursueing more criminal endeavors. Whatever he chose, it would be dangerous and he would need to be in tip top shape for battle.Atticus got up slowly and brushed off the dirt on his clothes, surveying the land around him. It had become fairly marred from his spellcasting, so he noted that he would need to fix it before leaving for the day. He took a deep breath, and walked closer to the lake before sitting down and lighting a cigarette with his wand. He was far enough out of sight that he didn't think anyone would catch him. It was a tough thing to do with other students around, most people gave him dirty looks from the smell alone. Sum up your character in one paragraph:Atticus is a quick-witted enterprising individual with a talent for solving puzzles and a bit of a tempter. He operates as an information broker in the criminal underworld. While his methods vary, there isn't much he wouldn't do to get what he wants.
