Physical Description:
Cabhan is a man who exudes a very specific sort of intellectual energy. He's tall, standing at about 6'2'' but not imposing, rather, he's welcoming. His frame is strong without being masculine, he appears to be an extremely solid individual. The kind of man you would trust with your accounting, or with a secret. He's one of those people that conveys quite a lot about themselves only through their appearance, read quite easily, not unlike an open book.

His face is a set of hard lines and sharply defined bones. Nothing here is left soft, looking at his face one thinks of a stone, something that stands firm and doesn't allow itself to be shaken. Powerful eyebrows and kind grey eyes softly outlined with bags and wrinkles give his face that human quality that it would lack otherwise, as many say, the eyes are the most expressive part of the body. His mouth is thin and his lips often pursed, surrounded by a thick but closely cropped grey beard. If one were to let their eyes slide upwards a little, they would notice the thick mane of wavy grey hair sitting atop Cabhan's head. It's large and would be unmanageable for most muggles, but with a little bit of applied spellwork, Cabhan manages to keep it neat and orderly.

Cabhan was raised living in the muggle world, and he finds himself in muggle company quite often, and this is reflected in his manner of dress. He forsakes robes and pointy shoes for suits and penny loafers, preferring ties to gaudy magical amulets. Of course, he's not one to ignore a cape. That's the one part of the wizarding ensemble that he actually enjoys. Not too flashy, nor too restrictive. His preferred fashions fall into the range of 'anything plaid' and 'anything green'. He's a man of style.

Personality Description:
Cabhan isn't a man of excess or slimy words, he's a minimalist and extremely honest. He refuses to sacrifice scruple and theory for any amoral reasons, believing that to lead his life honestly he must remain, overall, consistent. This isn't to say he refuses to accept new information, of course he's willing to adapt his views when presented with indisputable facts, but even that takes some doing. He's stubborn, to a fault really. It takes a lot of dedicated argument to change his opinion on anything.

Given that his world view is dialectical and materialist in nature, he's a man who places faith in what he can see, touch, taste, and feel. He's not one for flippant philosophizing or supernatural explanations, he requires a scientific or magical explanation for phenomena. This also results in a firmly held atheism which puts him at odds with some of his fellow Irishmen, considering he can't take a step in the country without seeing a cross.

Cabhan is also prone to frequent bouts of ennui whenever not engaged in some form of mental exercise, he doesn't have any tolerance for time spent mentally inactive. He becomes bored extremely easily, and needs to be constantly doing something. He's known for working pretty much constantly, drafting documents and signing papers while talking with people, or even reading while at a restaurant.

The Irishman is definitely a man of study. His magical interests are as wide as they are deep, and he devotes much of his free time to studying more advanced magical theory. Of course, he's only a naturalized wizard. At heart, he remains a muggle, or at least an inhabitant of the muggle world, and so his interests in muggle texts are great. Particularly those of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Mao. He draws much of his economic planning and conceptualization of monetary theory from these thinkers, and does his best to introduce these ideas to wizards. He's often shocked by the lack of understanding many wizards have of how the economy works. In his mind, magic may be a potent factor, but the wizarding world's economy is still subject to various theories of value and labor based economic principles.

This wizard is also a proud teacher, someone who asserts that education is one of the most important things in life. He's willing to educate anyone that needs it, and even volunteers in some of the poorer parts of his homeland, teaching whatever children come down to the help center. He tends to be very selfless when it comes to education and support for the less-privileged.

History:
Lauren O'Connell was a muggle who happened to meet a fellow by the name of Duncan Ó Domhnaill. Duncan wasn't quite the average Dublin lad, considering he could cast spells and teleport. Not exactly the kind of skills taught in Irish schools, eh? The two met in 1950, one a protester who had just thrown a rock at a police officer, and the other a wizard who decided to help out the beautiful woman who he had perceived to be under threat. He blinded the police officer quietly, and whisked the woman off to safety. He promptly ended up with a broken nose and a lecture on why what he just did was stupid, and this started the long time love affair of Duncan and Lauren.

Lauren had figured out that Duncan was a wizard about two years into their relationship, and she was good at keeping secrets. The two got married in 1954, living a happy and adventurous life for quite a while. Lauren was a political agitator her whole life, and Duncan worked for Gringotts his whole life, making enough money to tide the entire family over. The two lived their lives in peace, until Lauren got pregnant. When September the twenty-third of 1958 rolled around, their little Cabhan was born.

The boy was raised knowing about magic, and up until he was eleven, he went to a regular muggle school. When he turned eleven however, he came to Hogwarts. This was when his life really started to pick up speed, everyone knows Hogwarts is a bastion of education and adventure. When the fresh faced little Irishman came up to be sorted, the hat put him in Hufflepuff. As usual, a roar went up from the Hufflepuffs, and he ran off to the table, sitting himself down with those who would be his friends and housemates for the next four years.

His first year was a marked success, he made friends, passed all his classes, and always had fun at home over break. He was always a little different than his peers, considering he lived in the Muggle world quite often, and so understood how a lot of the Muggle 'stuff' worked. His favorite classes in this year were History of Magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He didn't really do much of note, he was a regular student. He did make friends with some people, and was generally well liked by his peers.

His second year was a bit more dramatic. He was pulled into a pretty awful situation, one of his friends was being mercilessly bullied by a few of the Slytherins. Cabhan took no nonsense from them. Using a few tricks he learned out of a book of hexes, he ended up giving those Slytherins the runs for a few days. He also got in a fight with one of them, knocking them flat on their butt and earning himself a detention. But it was worth it, considering how horrid they'd been. This year, his favorite classes were Charms and History of Magic.

Third and fourth year sort of blended together for Cabhan, nothing really happened during this time. He studied for all his classes and passed his exams with flying colors, but he was more concerned with the muggle world at this point in his life. He spent his summers going to rallies and labor protests, immersing himself in the world of politics, taking most of his views from his mother. This also led to his interest in philosophy, which was a novelty at Hogwarts. Everyone read the books of the wizard philosophers, but only Cabhan read the works of the materialists and dialectic thinkers, he was definitely in the minority there. But, third and fourth years aren't the type to really segregate themselves based on philosophy, so he didn't suffer from any bullying about this. Across these two years he maintained his love of History of Magic, but grew to appreciate potions a lot more than he had before.

In his fifth year, Cabhan was consumed by study. He knew that OWLs were some of the most important things in a wizard's life, and he didn't have much time for distraction. Except for one small case, and her name was Jennifer Oldspool. The two became romantically entangled this year, and their relationship blossomed, all while the two were worn down by stress from their upcoming OWLs. Cabhan got his results, and he wasn't disappointed. They were mostly Os, with a few Es scattered about here and there. His focus on studying did not go badly for him in the slightest.

In his sixth year, Cabhan took on more than a few of the extra classes. For one, he paid the twelve galleon fee to get into apparition classes, and he took arithmancy and study of ancient runes. He also took Magical Theory as an extra-curricular, never bothering with things like muggle studies. He was beyond the level of knowledge about muggles that those classes taught. He was also preparing for his NEWTs this year, studying beyond his level. The library really is great, especially for studious little Irishmen like Cabhan.

Cabhan's seventh year marked two major occurrences. His NEWTs and his breakup with Jennifer. The breakup was mutual and generally amicable, but it left a sour taste in Cabhan's mouth when it came to romance. He also took alchemy and arithmancy this year, deciding that those were worthwhile electives for him. He managed to keep himself steady this year, scoring well on his NEWTs once more. Again, a majority of Os and a few Es scattered throughout. His career in Hogwarts ended well, and he certainly left with flying colors.

In 1976, Cabhan was officially free. His parents decided to support him taking something of a 'gap year' to do whatever he pleased. In these years, he took to travelling the world. He saw a lot of historical monuments, saw how the wizarding community had developed in other countries, and overall broadened his horizons. He became involved with a few rallies and unions, but overall, he did a whole lot of exploring, and not much else. He ran out of money in October of 1978, and decided that it would be a better idea to throw himself into the ministry.

He began his career on Level Three, in the Muggle Liaison Office. It was dull work that didn't really interest him, but he kept with it, working in the ministry for quite a few years, making friends and occasionally becoming romantically entangled with one of the ladies from another floor. The romantic entanglements stopped after a while, primarily because after years of service, he had been promoted to the Level One, where he works as an Undersecretary to the Minister. He has maintained this position up till today, and continues to be involved in the Ministry's economic planning and administrative division.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Cabhan's job involves speaking with the Gringotts management, figuring out budgets, and writing up economic policies to be reviewed by the minister and her staff. He spends his days in his office, writing, signing documents, and doing whatever else the minister might need.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Cabhan has been studying economics, history, and governmental theory for most of his life. He's well equipped to deal with economic planning, and it's been his passion in life for quite some time. An extremely intelligent individual capable of succeeding at whatever task the minister might throw at him. He also speaks Goblin fairly fluently, which certainly assists when talking with Gringotts administrators and executives.

Writing Sample:
One click. Two clicks. Three. Cabhan's hand was on the tip of his pen and he was about to click it again when the door finally opened. Seventeen seconds late. It wasn't a huge problem, but it was definitely noticeable. "Hello Jasmine! Did you get the documents I asked for? I trust the Gringotts folk didn't give you too much of an issue? I know Goblins like to play intimidation tactics with the interns." The woman gave a shaky smile and handed the wizard a stack of papers. "Yes sir, they were very accommodating don't worry about little old me."

At this, Cabhan gave a laugh. "Don't tell me to not worry, my primary concern is the well being of my staff. If the worker is unhappy and repressed, the system produces unhappiness and repression. I'm here to serve as an undersecretary, not a tyrant." Cabhan gave her a quick smile as he turned his eyes down to examine the papers he had been presented with. The Goblins wanted to push for some sort of economic guarantee from the ministry, and that wasn't something that would happen any time soon. This plan outlined some sort of debt slashing for Gringotts, which wasn't something that anyone would seriously consider. It was honestly a tad disappointing that the goblins thought he was stupid enough to even bargain at this point.

Giving a sigh and shaking his head, Cabhan put the papers in his drawer, to be examined later. He stood up at his desk and locked eyes with Jasmine. "Thank you for bringing me these, and have a galleon for your trouble. I always thought that interns should be paid, never understood why they won't give you wages. You deserve it for your service." He tossed a galleon to the witch, who caught it and gave a little yelp. "Yes, thank you Mr. Domhnaill! I'm happy to help! Should I be going now?" Cabhan gave a nod. "Yes, I believe you'll be needed by someone else now. Have a nice day ma'am." He marched over to his door and held it open as the woman walked out. As the door closed, Cabhan cracked his fingers and looked over to the pile of paper work he would have to do. It was going to be a long night.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Cabhan is a strong man who's capable of doing anything required of him, but certainly not infallible. His slight boorish manner and stubbornness occasionally interfere with the diplomatic aspect of his job, but he insists this isn't a fault, just a firm character. He's completely incorrect of course, he's overly stubborn. He also loves his work, always willing to do anything to help, and tends to support his coworkers in any endeavor they need help with. Overall, Cabhan is an educated man with a stubborn streak, who is at his core a kind fellow.
