Physical Description:
Growing up, Jules was a chubby girl, but she has worked hard to take off and keep off the weight. She still has a full face and broad shoulders, but her features are much more angular and defined than they used to be. Jules is much thinner than she used to be now (though she still has curves). Though she is not very tall at only 5 feet and 2 inches, she frequently wears loud, commanding heels. You can see her confidence in her body language.

She has a penetrating stare that comes from dark, jade-colored eyes. Jules always seems to look like she is skeptical of everything that's going on, constantly judging - skeptical of everyone. She has full lips and high cheekbones paired with a thin nose. Framing her face is a a full head of lavender-colored hair. Naturally, she is blonde, but at the moment she is going lavender. She is very fashionable and favors tailored, well-made clothing (and black).

She has a number of tattoos, mostly on her left arm (the word "lovely" with a clover on her left wrist, the Slytherin crest on the inside of her arm, an anchor on the back of her left arm, and the word "daring") but she also has a star on the back of her neck, a heart on her pinky, skulls on both of her feet, and wings on her back with the quote "No net ensnares me." She got most of them during a very rebellious period in her life, but she still loves (most) of them.

Personality Description:
Jules' body language and personality exudes confidence. Although it did not come easily, Jules has learned to revel in her toughness and does not. take shit. from Anyone. She has no patience for incompetence and can be cutthroat and ruthless when she needs to be. "Just let me do it" is one of her most frequently used phrases -- she micro-manages and nit-picks. Her critical nature carries over into her personal life -- a type A personality isn't something you just leave behind at work. Her stubborn, decisive nature has gotten her far, not that it makes being around her easy all of the time. Jules is ambitious and quick-witted and does not have time for mistakes, which she rarely makes. It's what makes her stubbornness a little more tolerable -- she is usually doing the right thing, which is pretty intimidating. It's also because Jules is a natural leader and an extremely dedicated, hard worker. She is extremely organized and has a photographic memory, which certainly helps her in the medical field.

Though she is rough around the edges, Jules also has a soft side. She is very generous and assists whoever she can, but will turn on a dime if you cross her. That is something that just shouldn't be done, because when she gets angry, Jules can be very spiteful and holds a grudge for a long time. She's compassionate with her patients and with her loved ones -- she is loyally devoted to protecting and helping them in whatever way she possibly can. Though she absolutely acts very pretentiously when she's correcting someone, the advice comes from a good place. She's bossy and demanding because she genuinely cares about people getting the best treatment possible.

Outside of work, Jules does not drop her organized, demanding personality, but it certainly lessens to a degree that makes her much easier to be around. She enjoys going out for drinks and dinners and has a great sense of humor (when the time is right). She can be a stickler sometimes, but once you get a few glasses of wine in her, as long as you tell her it was expensive she'll probably loosen up. Jules does not like junk food and chooses her meals very carefully. She prefers to eat very healthy food and to this day monitors her weight very closely. She gets what she wants and if she doesn't, she still keeps trying.

History:
French-born Celeste Noir had a bright future ahead of her in the fashion world as a model. As her success grew she was invited to more and more parties, eventually running into super rich trust fund baby James Deville. She recognized his last name immediately and long story short her modeling career ended when she became pregnant at age 20. A shotgun wedding occurred shortly after this discovery and soon enough, Juliette Freya Deville was born. The fury Celeste experienced as a result of this life-changing event manifested itself in her parenting philosophies, which included strict diets from the time Jules was old enough to want sweets. Although her body remained perfectly intact after her pregnancy, Celeste frequently chastised Juliette for 'what she did to her body.'   Juliette's father was not there to do anything, as he had mysteriously become 'swamped with work' as soon as Celeste had become pregnant. He did work in the Department of Magical Accidents & Catastrophes in the Invisibility task force, but remained invisible while catastrophes were happening in his own home.

These complaints and criticisms did not end even after Jules' younger sister Eleanor was born, but by this point Juliette was old enough to deflect the insults that their mother threw at them. When she was at Hogwarts, she kept in constant contact with her sister to check in on what was happening at home. Hogwarts, for Juliette, was a huge period of growth. She was sorted into Slytherin and quickly realized her capabilities in academics. Although her mother had promoted the idea that she was ugly and worthless, Juliette discovered that at the very least, she was quite smart. And she knew for a fact that her mother wasn't too smart at all, judging by the whispers of 'trophy wife' she heard from other socialites. So even when Celeste tried coming to Hogwarts to convince them to serve her only salads in her first year, she was able to refocus her self-cautious energy onto studying to prove to everyone that she did have value.

When she was home for winter break during her fifth year, Celeste was hosting Christmas. She had all of her snobby French family over, and comments about both Juliette's and Ellie's weight were constant. Ellie was still a kid, so Celeste wasn't as hard on her, but Celeste served Juliette celery sticks while everyone else got a 6-course meal. That was the end of it for Juliette. She left dinner and moved to her Aunt Kenzie's, her father's sister who had always been very nice to her. She too had some curves, but she also had a cute husband and a family. Kenzie was a healer who often fixed all of her brothers' problems. Taking in one of James' kids was not the first thing she had done for one of her brothers, and she certainly did not mind having another girl around the house. She had two sons of her own, but she also had a daughter named Mikayla who was only a few years younger than Juliette. Unfortunately, she seemed to be obsessed with the fact that her mom was a model and thought it was really cool. Juliette hated it and to spite her mother, she started dating a girl, got a bunch of tattoos, chopped her hair off, and started going by Jules.

Even after starting to go by a nickname, Jules succeeded in school. She impressed her professors and quickly found her place as a prefect and eventually Head Girl. She shadowed the Potions Master during her 6th and 7th years. After moving in with her aunt, she quickly realized that she wanted to start working towards becoming a healer. She was already doing well in school and this was a great direction to go in. Instead of being as useless as her mother was, Jules would help people. She helped Kenzie at St. Mungo's during the summers off. This helped her secure a spot as a Healer-in-Training. She experimented in a few different departments before landing Potion and Plant Poisoning, an area that she excelled in mostly thanks to her expertise in potions.

While some people were impressed by her assertiveness, others found her to be a little over-the-top and therefore she struggled to rise professionally. In trying to prove her way through the world, she was turning people off and received advice (more than once) to lighten up. She focused all of her free time in studying different plants and their effects on muggles and magical beings as well, nearly memorizing the gigantic textbook printed on the matter. But this wasn't the thing that was keeping her in training - it was her arrogant attitude. It was a difficult lesson for her to learn, but after losing a patient for the first time she realized that she wasn't right about every single thing just because she was right about most things. It was a very humbling experience for her, even though there was realistically nothing she could have done to help them.

In time, Jules smoothed out a few of her soft edges, though she still tended towards sharp. Eventually she even started to understand the value of other people's opinions and input on her cases. In time, she was promoted, moving from Healer-in-Training to a full-fledged Healer. Jules was thrilled (and honored) to be among the professionals she'd been learning from for years, though of course she didn't show it. She studied hard and eventually (sort of) figured out how to communicate with her co-workers. She was younger than most of them at age 24, but being so young provided her with the energy and ambition to continue studying huge textbooks to the point where her co-workers joked that she'd turn into a bat from the eyestrain.

The studies became worth it when she was promoted once again, shortly after the retirement of the former Healer-in-Charge. Her expertise was clear; her photographic memory was certainly handy when it came to identifying the wide variety of rashes and reactions that were produced from plants and potions. Being the boss was a huge, proud step for Jules and she took it gratefully.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Patients that end up in Jules' department are mainly a combination of two types of people. There were ones who know exactly what they've gotten on themselves and knew that they needed immediate treatment, and they were pretty easy to deal with in general. The other type of patients were the ones who didn't know, or refused to tell, anything about what had landed them there. These patients were much harder to treat than the latter. Diagnosing the more difficult patients is a large part of Jules' job as a Healer-in-Charge. The job also requires her to keep up with her doctors and make sure that they are appropriately treating and otherwise being around their patients. There is a bunch of paperwork involved, too, but there isn't a stack of papers large enough to scare Jules away.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
From being incessantly underestimated and devalued in her life, Jules spent a lot of time proving that she was smart enough and important enough to acknowledge. Her photographic memory helps tremendously with diagnosing patients, particularly those who needed multiple diagnoses. Many rashes, cuts, and burns looked similar but patients often had no idea (or "had no idea") what had caused the reaction. The vast information Jules obtained by spending as much of her free time as possible poring over textbooks, basically memorizing them for the sake of the patients. She is a lover of puzzles and mysteries, and Jules refuses to let something go until she's solved it.

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Jules is a tough cookie who cracks the whip on everyone around her. As an ambitious, dedicated worker with something to prove, Jules is overwhelmingly good at her job. It's not always easy to get along with the stubborn and intimidating woman, but once you get on her good side you'll have a friend for life (unless you cross her again - then you'll get it twice as bad as her enemies).
