“Legimens?” Jordyn repeated, tilting her head to the side, wondering why that so randomly came up.  But then, of course, she realized that it was a sort of comment on agreeing on things, and Jordyn couldn’t say she wasn’t a little bit pleased about that.

But, he started to look nervous too, and that wasn’t a good thing!  She didn’t want to make him anxious, “No, no!” she assured him, shaking her head.  “I don’t have any interest in mind reading,” she grinned – thinking to a recent encounter with a Durmstrang boy made her even less likely to want to hone such a skill.  It was just so… violating.  Jordyn didn’t like that.

She smiled again, just to punctuate her point that she wasn’t some weird mind reader who enjoyed reading into people’s minds.  That’d be entirely too wrong.  “I’m not subtle enough for that type of magic,” she laughed a little and reached over and put her gloved hand on his forearm very briefly – lifting it quickly – despite the layer of leather between skin, she hadn’t thought of it really, until a little awkward voice reminded her human contact: weird.  Not bad, but weird.

Now she felt it: a dreaded awkward silence… Clearing her throat, Jordyn brought her rapidly depleting drink to her mouth, hoping to figure out what to say next….

It had only been about one minute since Jordyn had said the thing about constellations- but Jai was already spiraling into freak-out mode. He'd never really told anyone about his inner-workings and thoughts. No one would understand him. Jai sincerely felt that he was uniquely bizarre, and it was not a fact that he liked to flaunt even a little. He was sure a few people had noticed that he wasn't quite normal, since he did spend a lot of time fixing things. But he never explained that if he didn't do it, his heart might stop.

“Legimens?.... No, no! I don't have any interest in mind reading.”

Jai let his eyes connect with hers for just a moment to check if she was telling the truth before flickering them back down. So, she hadn't had any idea what he had been talking about at all. No legimens here. Leave it to Jai to freak out over absolutely nothing at all. He let out a quick sigh. Be cool! She didn't even want to read his mind, she had said. How dumb was he?

"I'm not subtle enough for that type of magic."

He was sure she was, but he was distracted by the feeling of leather on his arm. It was her gloved hand, which he resisted gawking at. For once, he was actually a little bit smooth, and he tried to be casual despite the fact that even through her glove, he could feel how warm she was. He leaned in a little bit closer and caught a preview of how good she smelled."Oh... " he said, in regards to what she had said about legimens. He was truly relieved it had all been in his head. "Well, constellations are my favorite too. I like being able to find things."

The awkward silence was only made just a little bit more awkward when he repeated that he liked constellations again.  Jordyn wondered if she was boring – she wouldn’t be surprised if she was boring – people had told her that she was boring before…

She usually didn’t care, but it felt a little disappointing to have people who didn’t like her win right now, especially when she was trying to not be that way.  Jordyn really had to step up her game or cut her losses – she was considering it, maybe just leaving when she was at least a little mysterious and nice before she hexed herself in the foot or something…

But she didn’t want to, not really, when he was pretty cute.  And it was like he was trying.   So, she avoided commenting on the fact that he already said he liked constellations best and instead focused on the second half of his statement: finding things.

“That makes sense,” she smiled, “You seem like you have a very logical brain, “she commented, hoping that was complimentary, since it was totally intended to be.  She liked that, not that she was concerned with liking that… it wasn’t like Jordyn was thinking like that – but she sort of was… oh she was confused!  She figured she should say something else, “I like to fix things, more than find them,” she informed him, kind of surprising herself with the realization on her own.

Was there a spell or a potion that could turn you into a less awkward individual? Jai had never been curious about this before, but now he was becoming more and more hyperaware of himself. He had already established that Jordyn was beautiful and that's what was making him so spastic-- but did it have to be like that? What evolutionary purpose did being a total dork in front of beautiful people serve?

I like to fix things, more than find them."

Jai couldn't disagree- he liked to fix things. Realistically, his obsessions were mostly with making things perfect. Everything had a place, and everything was in its spot. The first thing he noticed  when he entered a room was how everything was arranged. If it wasn't up to his standards, he constantly thought about fixing it. So, in that sense, he liked fixing things too.

He was just about to come up with a response to Jordyn's comment when he heard a familiar voice. It was a few of his friends from the dorm. They were definitely coming here to kidnap him- but Jai didn't want to leave! The conversation he was having with Jordyn was better than any one he'd had with his goofy guy friends. Regardless of Jai's opinion, though, his friends came in and wordlessly looped arms on either side of him and began pulling him out of the Three Broomsticks.

"I-I'll see you in school!" Jai managed to stutter frantically before being dragged out of the building.

Apparently Jai wasn’t going to get a chance to respond.  Some boys that Jordyn vaguely recognized came in and seemed to scoop him up.  There was a sort of miniature freak out happening in her head that made her stomach churn: she definitely recognized a couple from her days as a prefect and she had not gone easy on them.

She wondered if they recognized her (they had to – she wasn’t unknown to anyone who might have gotten in trouble) and thought it was best they pull their friend away without a word.  The listening-slightly soft-spoken Jordyn that was sititng in front of him was clearly going to be demolished quicker than someone could send out a stunning spell.

“Bye!” she sheepishly called after, waving a little, “I’ll see you there!” she added, knowing that she sounded ridiculous – or felt like she did, and noticed one of the boys look back at her like she had four heads and her stomach dropped even further.  Oh goodness.  That couldn’t be good.

She bit her lip and looked at the two cups on the table.  Both were pretty empty and without someone to talk to, it became blatantly obvious that she was surrounded by thirteen year olds again and Jordyn left a few sickles on the table before she pushed herself up and headed out: she still had time to buy a quill before she left.
