[Mar 27] Focus [Open!]

With her knapsack filled with all the necessary books, Zia trudged down to the library. It had been a while since her last visit, so she knew that it was just about that time. It wasn't that she had been lazy work - far from it. Zia worked best when chaos was surrounding her, so the Ravenclaw common room and dormitories -- even the dining hall, sometimes -- provided her with a fitting work environment. To get really serious studying done, however, Zia needed a little less noise.

She really hated the library, though. It was too quiet -- it was eerie, and the librarian was terrifying. Zia had visited a number of libraries in her lifetime and had developed a small fear of librarians. Was looking like an evil bird a requirement for every one of them? In Zia's experience, she assumed it had to be. The way they peered over those glasses, glowering at you because you made just the tiniest little peep.... Every footstep sounded like a cannon firing to Zia.

After living in a house with more than a dozen people, 'be quiet' is a phrase that starts to fade into the background and become white noise. It was a pretty pointless thing to say when you had that many kids. Thusly, Zia did not fare well in libraries -- "complete silence" was a concept that she hadn't quite wrapped her mind around yet. If it was quiet for too long, Zia began to feel awkward, and she had to fill the silence with something. Since she was by herself, she was afraid that she'd start singing or talking to herself and get hexed to sound like a toad by the librarian for it.

But today was about studying. It's why she'd come to the library -- she had to really focus! She chose a seat in the center of the room and began to settle in. She pulled out her wand and set it on the table, followed by her books and some parchment. The snacks she had snuck in with her remained in her bag, because she wasn't entirely sure that food was allowed in the library. Next, she tied her hair up in a ponytail, whic she had to redo three times to get just right. After that, she spent a few moments meticulously lining up and organizing her supplies. She took a piece of parchment and smoothed out, and then let out a big, exasperated sigh.

The quiet nature of the Hogwarts Library was never something that bothered Ligeia, as sure was more thrilled with the idea of esoteric knowledge was contained within. Be it abstruse on the side of the regular library or Restricted Section, though she had no books to take out or return to there today.

Rather, a personal favorite; an index of specific plants and fungus that were common cures to some diseases. Diseases which, while particular graphic, were not explained in such fine detail in this book. But from looking at the pictographs of the plant cures some of the associated diseases were easy to tell if you knew the associated anatomy and squinted a bit. The full index on the diseases, however, was Restricted material.

In searching for a desk to enjoy her reading material Ligeia came across the vividly red haired Zia Piselli from her house and year. "Dear Zia!" Ligeia said, a common greeting from her. Neutral but chipper for the use of lesser used letters as the capital of her housemate's name.

Zia knew what the pitfalls of procrastination were. Nothing good came as a result of procrastination, of course. Unless you counted having fun, which Zia did, and so within five minutes of her time at the library, Zia was already looking for distractions so that she could avoid doing her work. She just wasn't in the mood today! Normally at least part of her enjoyed the thrill of learning something new... but today, the topics were too tedious and the books too dense.

"Dear Zia!"

A blonde head appeared before her, and Zia looked up to see her housemate, Ligeia, standing before her. She didn't know the girl very well, but any distraction was a welcome distraction at this point. "Hey!" Zia said brightly. "How are you?" Her brown eyes were receptive and excited. She peeked at the book Ligeia was holding, something about diseases. Zia was used to hearing all about gross diseases from her mother's work at St. Mungo's. Even working in the newborn unit, Zia's mother Francesca had seen her fair share of icky things, which the family was all too curious about. She wondered if Ligeia wanted to be a healer, or if - like many of the Pisellis (Zia included) - she was just intrigued by the unusually bizarre and disgusting.
