[March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] on January 03, 2014, 11:49:31 PM Frustrated, Iggy hauled a tabletop out of the back of a car that was upon closer inspection, or really just a glance, not as wide as the table. The table joined its matching legs and chairs on the sidewalk. Everything else had already been moved into the new flat by a house elf he'd borrowed from Prewett Manor, but it had been suggested that he at least appear to move out of his old flat. Apparently a tenant and all his belongings just up and disappearing could lead to muggles asking questions. He didn't particularly care, but his grandmother had gently reminded him that it was better if no one, including muggles, started asking questions about him. From anyone else it would have made him dig in his heels and refuse to move at all since the move hadn't been his idea at all. But barely a day after his cousin, Gareth, got out of Mungo's after the dementor attack, his father demanded he move back to the manor. Apparently living among muggles made him an easy target for the dementors. And it didn't help that Gawain was likely never getting out of Mungo's.Which Iggy understood. He wasn't exactly a stranger to the whole dark creatures attacking out of nowhere. But he wasn't about to move back to the manor. He liked living in London. He liked not living with his family. Despite the size of Prewett Manor, it wasn't exactly easy to come and go with whoever he wanted. In the end, his grandfather had interrupted what would likely have been a loud argument pointing out that living among muggles like he was left them open to be attacked by a dementor too and suggested Iggy move somewhere with other witches and wizards. It was a good compromise, not that he really had any choice once his grandfather suggested it. Though it wasn't until later he'd been told he would have to lug at least some of his furniture out of his old building like a muggle. He should have put up more of a fight. But he was here now. Dorothea's Apartments for Wayward Witches & Wizards, only visible to witches and wizards so no more bringing muggles back to his place. Though that also meant no longer having to explain why his flat seemed so much larger from the inside, except he did have to pay for the privledge of the extra magical room now.Picking up the table and table legs he made his way to the door. Once he got it all inside he could finally use his wand and stop carrying the damn thing. Yeah, I'd say the girl has some issues, Dave" Lala snorted, taking another sip from her paper cup, and shoved her free hand in the pocket of her fluffy, pink robe."Shhhh! Bloody hell, Styles, could you be any louder?! Nan will hear..." Dave hissed at her, quietly closing the door to his and Scary Dorothea's apartment. She still couldn't fathom how David could possibly be related to that cow. David was nice, albeit had terrible, terrible romantic encounters. Dorothea was possibly Satan in disguise."No need to get so touchy, dude" she scoffed at him, eyeing the coffee she'd just brought him out of the kindness of her heart, and not at all because bribing the landlady's nephew was the only way she'd managed to stay in one place so long without being evicted. "Besides, you can't just be that socially awkward and sexually frustrated and jealous as a fucking demon and be expected to stay sober, so I'd say the poor girl has an excuse" she continued, absently passing her hand through her currently short purple hair as the building administrator choked on his coffee. "You're still better off without her, mind you. Now, what's this of a new tenant then? Please, please, please tell me he's not on our floor" she whined with big, imploring eyes just as the door flew open."Ah, speak of the devil" Dave said, clearing his voice and glaring back at Lala. She replied with an offended huff, and watched impassively as Dave dumped his coffee in her hand and rushed to help with the table. The new guy didn't look half bad, but Lala learned long ago not to judge on appearance. When the table was safely tucked into the hallway, David extend his hand with a bright, dazzling smile. "David Smith, building administrator. My grandmother owns the place" he said, and Lala quietly added "Wretched harpy" with a roll of her eyes and a little scowl."That bundle of joy over there is Layla" the man added with an impassive glare thrown her way, and Lala grimaced maturely at him. "She and her flatmate, Ellie are your next-door neighbors." At that Lala spat back into her cup and proceeded to immediately choke on her coffee. David watched with raised eyebrows and shook his head disapprovingly, before he turned back to the new tenant with an amused glint in his eye. "Good luck with that." Lala graciously flipped him the bird."Uh, we don't have an elevator and you're on sixth. But, good Lala over here can apparate whatever you need upstairs until we key you in for apparition inside your apartment?" Dave had the audacity to enlist her for help, which–what? "Now, listen you bloody–" "Won't you, Lala?" Dave added with that serious glare of his, and Lala shut her mouth audibly and seethed. "Lala Styles, pleased to meet you dude. How may I be of service?" she said through clenched teeth and a forced smile towards the new guy. He didn't remember moving being so difficult last time. Though everything had arrived slowly. This time everything was being moved mostly in one go. "Iggy Prewett." He said taking the proffered hand.Iggy looked over the woman, Layla, David had said. If her flatmate looked anything like her, maybe the place would work out. Between neighbors and administrators the apartment certainly wasn't lacking a view. Maybe one of his new neighbors would know which team the man played for; it never payed to hit on a guy who can evict you."I wouldn't dare use you as a pack horse, was it Layla or Lala?" He pulled his wand slightly out of his jacket pocket, "I'll be fine once I get the chairs inside, the rest was already brought over earlier." And should have brought this too, he thought silently. "Had to keep up appearances though and let the muggles see me move something out." Weird name. But she was one to talk. "Or Dave" she added with lips pursed and narrowed eyes directed towards the building administrator, currently standing there with his perfectly chiseled arms crossed over his chest and rolling his eyes at her. She leaned closer to the new tenant, expression changing into something dreadful and horrified. "But he's got Satan for a grandmother, so we expect that from him" she whispered seriously, pulling back to snort a little."And it's okay, really." She shrugged and shook her head, hair lengthening to the small of her back and seeping into a dark blue. Vanishing her cup of coffee, she then pulled the hair tie off her wrist and pulled her hair into a messy bun. "It's the least I can do" she said completely innocently, batting her eyelashes at him. Three people had already moved out a few months into having her as a neighbor. It was best she made a good-ish impression before the 'public disturbances' started. Hmph. As if good loud music at three in the morning could ever be called a public disturbance. Not her fault they didn't silence charm their walls. She'd have to admit that accidentally entering someone's apartment because her levels of drunk were at about fluent in old Norse, could somehow be called a disturbance tho. But that was one time..."Well, Dave can help you with the chairs, while I pop upstairs with the table, yeah? Because Dave's a sweetie—" she batted her lashes again and smiled bashfully "—and the admin" she added more seriously, with an ain't taking none of yo bullshit stand. "And, dude, we live in Brixton" she said as if that was an explanation for everything. "Nobody cares wha' you up to here." Sure a part of it was hipster-ish and bohemian and the night life was epic, but they also had like one of the highest crime rates in all of London. If you cared for that sorta' thing."Now, shoo" she waved both hands, then turned to grab a corner of the table and poofed. She managed to land without damaging the table, but almost stepping on Cat. Ah, well... Once the table was dragged and dumped in the middle of the hallway, Lala apparated back downstairs. "Y'all done?" she asked without even looking at them. "Good, now grab a chair and hug me" she said dead-seriously towards the new tenant with a little grin. He was beginning to see how 'you little shit' could be an appropriate moniker for Lala. Not that his own father didn't have similar names for him. And the offer of help was appreciated, wand or not, he had not been looking forward to getting the table up the stairs. He looked at David as Layla apparaated upstairs taking the table with her, "the chairs then I guess." He headed out the door, the building administrator on his heels. They each carried two inside where Lala appeared again. "Not the first time I've heard that." He said laughing as he held a chair in one hand and wrapped an arm around her waist, "though I usually get a drink first." He definitely had that bad boy look to him which could be called attractive, she supposed, but he also looked like he was sort of her age and that immediately put him in the meh corner. Not that she had any interest, of course... Because of the whole unlabeled, undefined, we-do-not-talk-about thing Jason. But that didn't mean she didn't have properly functioning eyes."And unless you're paying for it, chances of me getting you a drink are slim to none" she snorted, grabbing a chair in both hands. "I'm an artist" she offered as explanation with a miserable expression that said a lot about her current financial state, remembering she had worked the entire night and was nowhere near finished because of Les and his drunken stupid face."Well, then... Allons-y!" she said grinning, and popped away upstairs. Just as they landed in her apartment to the sounds of loud hissing, Lala remembered to warn him about the possibility of a mess, but then—"Oh my fuck! Cat, no! No, get off" she let the chairs out of her hands and immediately bent to retrieve her cat from Iggy's leg. Cat reluctantly detached herself from the guy, still hissing and flicking her tail menacingly. "Holy shit, I'm so sorry! So incredibly sorry" she said mortified, keeping the still attempting to claw cat away from him. "She's not like that normally, sure she's moody but... I dunno what got into her. What is wrong with you?" she now, scandalized, addressed her cat which merely turned to unimpressedly look up at her owner. It was only then that she realized Grinch was also acting kind of spiffy, seeing his tail peaking from under the sofa. What the hell was going on with her cats? Iggy said with a laugh before he was apparated up to Layla's flat. He hated side-along apparation, but the discomfort was quickly replaced by the pain of sharp claws scratching him through his pants and the clatter of a chair dropping to the floor. He'd never had much luck with cats before he'd been bitten, and even less since then but this was the first time he'd been outright attacked by one. Granted, he had just appeared in the cats territory without warning.Thank Merlin the cat was pulled off his leg before he he did something that would not ingratiate himself with his new neighbor who had so far been helpful. "It's okay," he said slowly, keeping an eye on the cat that stilled seemed to want to attack again, "Wait, you call your cat Cat? Who does that?" He said with a slightly forced laugh. His leg hurt but he'd had worse, and better to move past the animal's unusual behavior and the questions it could raise. "Or we can all pitch in and throw you an amaze move-in party" she declared with a fervent nod. "We'll make Sander - tha'd be the grumpy dude upstairs - bake something, get Les - his little shit of a brother and flatmate - to... attain some party favors and we can all gather up here - tha'd be me and Ellie, my BFF" Lala said very fast right before apparating away. Parties were her thing, yeah? This party had to happen. Her cat gave another muted growl, still flicking her tail menacingly as Lala looked awkwardly at the guy. "Just—let me" and she flailed a little pointing towards her room only to swiftly disappear, cat in hand, through the door. She returned sans cat, hands tucked in the pockets of her robe and stopped in the middle of the living room, balancing on her heels. "Well, obviously me" she replied with a snort and an arch of her eyebrow. "I mean, the nutter's Cat and that fellow, under the sofa - notice the fluffy tail - is Grinch. Cat's Cat because of Cat in Breakfast at Tiffany's, which fuck yeah! Cinematic masterpiece! And Grinch's Grinch—well, because Grinch. Also, he's born 'round Christmas, and he was abandoned and I don't really dig Christmas, so yeah... Grinch" she ended her rambling with a clap of her hands and a loud inhale."Err, I have some band aids..." she pointed at his leg. "For the scratches? Just yeah... I feel I should mention they're Hello Kitty and Batman band aids" she looked away scratching at her jaw absently. "Equal opportunity band aids" she added apropos to fucking nothing and completely randomly. "Chairs. We should, like get the chairs out" she continued, grabbing one and stood there waiting for the dude to... do, say, sing (?) something. As far as first impression went, she was sure she was not getting this one across right. He hadn't noticed the tail of the other cat, Grinch apparently, sticking out from under the sofa until Layla pointed it out. Thankfully it had shown no signs of attacking yet, just hiding from him, which was much more like the treatment he'd always received from cats. Iggy smiled at the woman's explanation of the names, he had no idea what Breakfast at Tiffany's was, though given it was apparently a cinematic masterpiece it must be a movie. "Don't dig Christmas? What's that have to do with the cat's name?" He said laughing. He wasn't even going to get into that she apparently didn't like Christmas."I've got some bandages and potions in my flat." He said absently as he was already preparing to get the chairs. And make sure that the path the door was free of any angry cats. She hadn't mentioned any other cats, but he wasn't taking any chances and anyone with two was likely to have more. "Wait, Hello Bat and Kittyman? What are those and why would anyone put them on bandages?" Skip to next post Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #9 on March 17, 2014, 01:21:38 PM "Ugh... he's a Dr. Seuss character? He's this green dude that positively loathes Christmas and is basically an ass" she said tilting her head to the side and balancing on her heels. "So... Grinch" she ended her explanation, gesticulating wildly at the couch and the peeking tail. "Tho my Grinch is actually quite nice. Just very shy and... picky of his humans" she continued, narrowing her eyes and letting out a soft hum."Or that, yeah. Much more efficient" she muttered under her breath. Wizarding remedies were a last resort sort of thing for Lala. She claimed they messed with her head and body more than medicine did. Also, she had been kind enough to offer. Rude. "Oh my god, you complete heathen" she replied completely scandalized, with a hint of disgust in her tone."I'm sorry, we're just not going to work. We can't be friends" she said seriously, dropping the chair to cross her arms over her chest and lift her chin in the air. "How have you lived on this planet without knowing who Batman—Batman!—is, you pathetic creature?" she almost wailed, raising her had in the air only to drop them at her sides immediately after."Ok, chairs, then comics" she picked up the chair again and stormed around him. "We must correct this severe deficiency in your cultural knowledge." And if the grinch was green, why was the cat named after him. As far as he could tell, the cat was not green. Though he wouldn't be surprised if the cat was charmed green for Halloween. It was certainly something he'd do, if he had any pets named after fictional green people. He looked at her with surprise when she called him a heathen. "Is he some kind of vampire? Cause I think that's a myth. I don't think they can turn into bats, just something silly muggles made up." She was moving again with the chair. He still had his in hand and he followed her out in to the hallway."Wait, comics? Those are those things in the muggle newspapers right. Comic stripes? They don't move either. Why do they even bother when they have television and movie pictures?" He knew a fair amount from his muggle studies classes, certainly more than most of the people in his family did, but there were still somethings that didn't make sense to him. "Wait, is Grinch a comic thing too?" Still didn't explain why a doctor was involved though. Who hadn't heard of Dr. Seuss? That was just... pitiful. Poor, poor Iggy. So sad. "He was a kids' lit author. An awesome one" she said with eyes big and excitement etched in her features. "Don't you worry, child. There's still time to get acquainted with his awesome books tho" she reassured him genially. "Wizards" Lala scoffed under her breath and slowly rolled her eyes.Lala remained slack-jawed at the dude's unbelievable display of ignorance. Vampire, he said... Pfft. "Jesus, you're hopeless aren't you?" she said disbelieving, shaking her head at the atrocity that was unraveling before her eyes. She kept muttering on her way out of the apartment about the cruelty of the wizarding world, for depriving people of such things as Batman. Or technology. Awful, awful people."Oh wow, man, you're really a severe case of muggle culture ignorance, aren't you?" she wailed as soon as the chair were dropped in the hallway. "Because comics were there before television and the wondrous beauty of cinema. And just as video didn't actually kill the radio star, neither did animation kill its predecessor: comics" she explained with jazzy hands and bubbly eyes. "And, yes and no. Originally he appeared in the illustrated children's story 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!'. Not a comic, but an illustrated book. My kind of thing—that's what I, illustrator extraordinaire mainly do" she explained with flourished gestures and an over dramatic bow."But then there was an animated television featurette after the book, and then there were two TV films and then, finally, there was the live-action film from 2000 which was a complete and utter fail and Jim Carrey should've been hanged for that particularly heinous act" she spluttered with a huff. "There's also a video game, and a Broadway musical. So... basically, The Grinch is everywhere" she shrugged and clapped her hands. "And thus concludes your lesson in muggle pop culture for now. Next: Batman, the most epic DC superhero in the history of DC superheroes. Anyone that tells you differently is obviously Satan or one of them Superman whiny little shits" Lala explained flamboyantly ending with a menacing scowl. "What next?" Skip to next post

Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #6 on February 25, 2014, 05:06:07 PM "Well then I'll just have to buy a painting so you can buy me a drink." Iggy said with a laugh before he was apparated up to Layla's flat. Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #7 on February 26, 2014, 10:25:05 AM "That—" she said with a grin. Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #8 on March 11, 2014, 03:53:01 PM With a sigh of relief Iggy let go of the wand in his pocket as the cat was trapped in the other room. What are those and why would anyone put them on bandages?" Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #9 on March 17, 2014, 01:21:38 PM "Ugh... "We must correct this severe deficiency in your cultural knowledge." Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #10 on March 26, 2014, 10:33:10 PM "Why does a doctor have characters?" Iggy asked still confused. And if the grinch was green, why was the cat named after him. Skip to next post
Re: [March 22] New Day, New Flat [Open] Reply #11 on April 05, 2014, 01:15:40 PM "You must've had a really sad childhood" Lala said in a flat voice, yet imbued with a sort of pity for the unfortunate soul.
