Job/Position: Head of Being Division, DRCMC

Wand: 12 3/4 inches, Holly, Dragon Heartstring, Rigid with a knobby shaft.

    PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
At 169 centimeters high, Skylar makes up for her rather ordinary stature through a set of fairly distinguishing features. First of all, her hair - naturally strawberry blonde, with more reddish tones on occasion, it is sure to draw attention in a sea of less vibrant colors. Her striking, long-lashed hazel eyes could give reasons for her gaze to be called sultry, but just as well, glaring and unimpressed. With a small, slightly upturned nose and full, plump lips, she's a mix of contrasts that remind of a vintage Hollywood beauty.

She's a very proud woman, and very comfortable with who she is, despite her body lacking any particularly striking features, so she carries herself high and confident, always managing to make herself heard or seen simply through her presence. While she isn't necessarily an image oriented person, she's always dressed to the nines with not a hair out of place. After all, respect comes only to those that first respect themselves.

Skylar has a certain way of talking that, without necessarily meaning to, sounds like barking orders or menacing... In any case, her voice holds a sort of confidence and finality that may seem rather disrespectful. And, as opposed to her younger sister, Sky does not see human contact fondly. If anything, really, she tends to shut it down completely, often feeling uncomfortable in such situations.

    PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
If it's one thing that most people would agree on, when it comes to the oldest Carstairs, is that she is bossy. If not, even authoritarian. Skylar is a woman that knows what she wants and will stop at nothing from getting it. However, while that might make her conceited to some, she prefers to think of herself as efficient.

While she may have been the star child of the family - the good, obedient little girl - when she was younger, it was her mother's and on occasion her father's overbearing behavior that turned her into a rather distant and seemingly uncaring person eventually. That isn't to say that she isn't passionate, in fact she's almost obsessed about her work, and there is nothing to her that is more sacred than her contractual obligations and more. Which is why, she tolerates neither failure nor incompetence in both her peers and subordinates.

And while she may be open and friendly with beings everywhere, the same can't be said about humans. Her dislike for human contact and her disinclination for mindless interactions do not get her many friends. Neither does her penchant for speaking her mind point-blank, regardless of the circumstances. Diplomacy and schmoozing are skills that Skylar has never quite grasped. Although, there is the matter of her rather dry, and occasionally completely inappropriate sense of humor, which tends to rear its head in situations it is most certainly not called for.

Sky is particularly headstrong, at times, even in her wrongness and there are very few instances when she is inclined to apologize for her behavior. To complete the cocktail, she can sometimes be rather hotheaded, however, those situations are few and it's only her scathing tongue that people should be aware of. And, perhaps, the occasional tripping hex. However, most of the time she maintains perfect emotional composure to the point of sometimes appearing uncaring. And rude, if one counts her vast profane vocabulary, saved especially for individuals displaying endless amount of incompetence, her subordinates and her friends associates.

Despite her strict and distant demeanor, Skylar does exhibit a more affectionate side, usually with her younger sister, with whom she shares a rather complicated relationship and, in rarer circumstances, those that have managed to enter her good graces as, well, not quite friends but tolerated peers. She actually deeply cares about a few individuals, tho she will never admit so.

The first child of Briallen Carstairs née Morgan and Alphonse Carstairs, Skylar was supposed to be the crown jewel of the Carstairs  family. Named Rhiannon for her mother's Welsh lineage, Alice for her father's ancestor, Catrin for the homonymous Welsh poem and, finally, Skylar for no reason whatsoever, Rhiannon has lived most of her life with her family's noose around her neck.

From the moment she was born, Rhia was groomed to become the perfect embodiment of an accomplished, pure-blood young woman. And while pleasing her parents, always earned her praise and gifts she did not need, as young girl, she continuously felt like the prize-steed meant to bring fortune and fame to her family.

Childhood was a rather tedious affair for her, half spent between lessons and constant comparisons between herself and her numerous, accomplished cousins and other relatives. She wasn't a particularly chatty or playful child, but she was pleasant and polite, despite having preferred a traipse through the countryside to a social gathering with her relatives.

It was a year before her departure to Hogwarts that her younger sister was born, and hope that her parents' focus would shift to little Rosie came. But it was for naught, as her baby sister seemed to present little to no interest to her parents. Once enrolled at Hogwarts, however, Rhia felt she could finally breathe. But it wasn't necessarily the case. For freedom came with the price of keeping her folks satisfied in the form of keeping ridiculously high grades.

She showed no patience for theoretical subjects, but she discovered early that she had a way with creatures and beings that came almost natural. She wasn't half bad in Potions and Herbology, but it was subjects like History and Astronomy that her showing the temper she would grow into as an adult. There was one other little guilty pleasure that made life easier and that was Quidditch. She was beautiful on a broom, and made her house proud as a Chaser for many years.

She was polite and sociable, as her parents instructed, despite never having much wish for conversation. And while she may have been liked well enough by others, she didn't have many friends, acquaintances, yes, but friends— Sure, she had her cousins which one might argue that she was a little closer to, but it wasn't as if she could call anyone a true friend. She was rather popular, did well in her classes, rode a broom famously, came from a rich family with quite the name.. One might say she had it all. But the constant pressure, the expectations, the fact that her entire life was fitted into her parent's little stencil—Rhia... No, Skylar was made for more than just that.

Her parents would've liked to see her in International Magical Cooperation, but she had kept her options open. It was in her final year at Hogwarts that Skylar decided enough was enough. Her life was her own to live and without even the smallest of signs of her change, she would announce her decision by going for five N.E.W.T.s with Care of Magical Creatures, Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration and Charms, with one specific goal in mind: the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. She loved creatures and beings, couldn't see herself doing anything but and her mother and father would just have to find a way to deal with that and get off her back.

Once she graduated, Skylar dropped all pretenses of being a puppet for her family. With years of pent-up frustration, she would've liked to cut-off all connections to her parents, some of her Carstairs relatives and more than a handful of Morgans, but there was the matter of a few favorite cousins and, most importantly, her baby sister... She hadn't been there to see her grow up, being tucked away at Hogwarts, she never quite managed to become very close to her, but Rosie adored her and reluctant to admit it, Skylar was very fond of her. She was afraid her sister would suffer the same fate, seeing she was eager to please her parents. So she gave her conditions to her family, she would do it her way or no way and took off for the world.

For four years, Skylar visited various countries with communities of veelas, goblins, vampires, hags, giants, house-elves and werewolves. While her main goal was the study of beings by interacting directly with beings - well, at least those that weren't keen on immediately biting her head off. But, during her longer stays she also apprenticed under various wizarding naturalists, even becoming relatively fluent in Gobbledegook. it was the latter, as well her fundamental beliefs that beings are in no way inferior to wizards, that landed her a job in the Goblin Liaison Office upon her return on her twenty third birthday.

For two years she did her job diligently, earning herself a name in the Department as being hardworking and efficient. She was ambitious and she had grand plans and wished that maybe one day, the wizarding world would treat all magical species with the respect they deserved that pushed her further and further. While dedicated to her job, she still continued to study and publish various articles supporting the equality in status of beings to wizards and continued to push for the inclusion of Centaurs and Merpeople in the classification by negotiating with them herself. But it was her ease in her interactions with beings, her respect for them and, embarrassingly, her familial associations that eventually put her in the spotlight for the position of Head of Being Divison.

Regardless how she may have come into her position, for the past half year she has been working to bring order into a department that has been overlooked and inefficient for quite some time, dedicating almost every moment of her life to her job and to truly earning her position.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
As Head of Being Division, Skylar is in charge of the administrative processes of the division and its sub-departments. Other offices subordinated to the Being Division include the Office for House-Elf Relocation and the Goblin Liaison Office. It is Skylar's duty to supervise and ascertain that they are all functioning properly.

Most of Skylar's day is spent elbow deep in papers needing her approval, only for those approved to then be discussed with the Heads of the other divisions, and, of course, the Department Head. And while certainly a less than pleasurable part of her job, she still sees to it diligently and with all the professionalism she can muster. She has a system, and even if paperwork falls on a second place, she still finishes it in time.

Field-work is still the most pleasurable aspect of her job, and while her presence on the field is only required to oversee the development of various projects, she is still most satisfied when in the presence of beings, actively helping those she has signed up to help.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
With years of rigorous training both at Hogwarts and during her various apprenticeships all around the world, as well as an inclination towards constant research and the study and publication of scholarly articles, from a theoretical and academical standpoint, Skylar is proficient in the field of beings. And where she is lacking, she has no issues filling the gap by requesting assistance from those more knowledgeable in the subject.

Her natural easiness with beings and her predilection to treat any and all magical creatures with the utmost respect have always eased her dealings with most species. And while she may have generally been more comfortable working by herself while she was still training, upon returning back to the UK and taking up position int he Goblin Liaison office she has proved herself an efficient team worker, but even more so a naturally inclined leader. She is strict and rigorous, demanding the best of her peers, subordinates, but especially herself.

She is passionate about anything pertaining to magical creatures, especially beings, whom she believes to be on equal grounds with wizards and witches.

Skylar Rhiannon Alice Catrin Carstairs, or simply "Sky" is the oldest daughter of the Carstairs-Morgan family. She is a confident, strong-spoken woman with little to no patience for failure and ignorance and a case of severe stubbornness. While generally perfectly composed, if a little rude, there are times when her switch goes off and she will rain fire and brimstone on whatever poor unfortunate soul has managed to anger her. She has a complicated relationship with her younger sister whom she cares for deeply but cannot connect with and a strained, if not completely butchered relationship with her parents, and quite a few of her extended family. For Skylar, there is nothing more sacred than work, and everything, everything else falls in second.

Character Name: Skylar Rhiannon Alice Catrin Carstairs
    Age: 27 years old
    Character Biography: Bio
Do any of your other Characters have Special Abilities?: Yes
If Yes: Amara Báthory, Layla Styles

    Special Ability: Animagus

What level is this ability at?: Advanced

At what age did your character gain this ability?: 18 years old (technically)

How did they learn or hone this ability?:
Skylar started rigorous training to achieve her animagus form at only thirteen years old wanting to be closer - in some form - to the creatures and beings that she so loved. But for some reason, despite having all the theory down, all the exercises and the perfect mental state for transformation she never managed to actually achieve her form.

That is... not until she visited the Yellowstone National Park and first saw a solitary mountain lion. When she first laid eyes on the majestic female it was like everything had finally fallen in place. And within moments she was standing in the same place, only when she looked down, instead of shoes, she saw big, soft furred paws.

After that first transformation, she was finally able to turn at will. However, for a few years she still battled with control and time frames, sometimes getting stuck in cougar form for hours or other times turning hours after she had intended it, making for quite some unusual situations.

But now, after years of spending a few nights a week simply running as a mountain lion, she's got her transformations under a firm grasp with the occasional hiccups. If she's being in a state of emotional turmoil when she turns, she sometimes has very brief moments when she seems to lose herself in the mind of the animal.

Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?:
Skylar makes use of her ability in her day to day life, often finding herself in situations where communities of beings are situated deep into unoccupied territories. As such, traversing forests and rocks in her animagus form, offers her a sense of belonging, of blending and she often finds she's better received as such. Not so much by the fauna, mind you.

Her cougar has granted her a new sense of freedom, an escape from her strict rigorous life on two legs, so it's not unusual for her to disappear a few nights a week, often returning in the morning with a haggard, but content look. She enjoys running with other creatures of the night and enjoying life on a simpler, more basic level; hunting small, innocent, doe-eyed wildlife included. They're wary of her, but along the years she has adapted her habits to suit the wildlife while in her animagus form.

Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability:
Her form is that of a mountain lion from colder regions, such as the Andes, with light tan coat, longer hair and a pair of bright, unusual grayish green eyes. While in her animagus form, in the place where her Celtic knot mandala tattoo normally is, appears a strange marking - a slight circular darkening of her fur - on her right shoulder.

Her transition is now smooth, not flawless, but smooth: from two legs to four, her skin morphs into fur and everything follows, just in a matter of seconds. Turning into her animagus is no longer an issue, it's turning back into human at can sometimes prove problematic, almost as if she's reluctant to go back on two legs. She remains completely conscious, of course, but there are times when she gives in to her base instincts, getting confused about who she really is. The worst of it happens when she's stayed in her mountain lion form for more than a few weeks. But with a bit of coaxing she eventually manages to turn back.
