Since the death of her husband, Erzulie has focused on the apothecary, perfecting cultures and domesticating violent vegetation—leaving her son Tracy in the care of his grandmother back in New Orleans. She keeps a room for him, however, when he comes to visit, and has extended the same courtesy to his good friend Gracie, who she has taken under her wing. Wise, patient, and fearless, Erzulie knows how to bide her time and accept things as they come, making her a versatile character; good things may come to those who wait, but they’re even better when one knows when to act.
