    In Like A Lion...

    • Things are never quiet on the new professor front at Hogwarts.  March sees Auror Hughes interviewing for a new position, and renowned herbologist Branwen Strangely joins the staff as well.  With NEWTs, OWLs, and other exams on the horizon, classes are picking up as the pressure starts to build.

Professors Trishna and Di Luca discuss Cyhirae's misbehavior in class.  Elsewhere, two young Hufflepuffs bond outside in the cold, but the wintery weather isn't keeping everyone indoors: a group of students take the time to make a splash in the rain.  Hogsmeade weekend gets exciting when Bran Branwell spots his fashion idol

The Third Task of the Tetrawizard Tournament comes to a thrilling end, with Salem in the lead.  And you can read all about it in the Hogwarts Howler, which is under new leadership as chatty Figaro Sellaphix takes over as editor.

Seeking Apparition Instructors! - Apparition lessons and certification are provided by the Department of Magical Transportation Apparition Testing Centre during Apparition Week in March.  Take on the role of canon instructor Wilkie Twycross, or someone of your design.  Interested? Primary or secondary is fine.

    And Out Like A...Lamb?

    • Poor Mark Hunter.  He's been pushing his luck for so long, but it finally runs out when Aurors Roh and Harcroft swoop in to arrest him.  There is surely more trouble for the Ministry on the horizon, as reports of Dementor attacks begin to surface, and Minister Zephyr calls for action.

In werewolf news, the underground healing movement picks up steam as Knox Greyfriar and a surprisingly willing Hannah Bombay take in a poisoned Cooper Evans.  Iris Nollett is hot on the story, as she asks old friend Flynn Hughes about the rumors that he's trying to find a cure for lycanthropy.  But the top dog in the Werewolf Capture Unit might be in the worst hot water of all, when he gets stuck on a Ministry lift with a werewolf, an Auror, and Margo Amherst.

Even aside from the Dementors, there are dark clouds on the horizon.  Cináed Tawse and Aviad Cohen talk governmental overthrow on their way to the new Black Chimaera, and Ira Almasy lays things out for her favorite Obliviator.  Spring is on its way, but with the growing chill in the air, it can't come soon enough!

    New Plots!

Political Opposition - With all the turmoil, someone's bound to point fingers at the government!
Dragon Epidemic - Something is rotten in the state of Dragon.
Save the Dragons! - Join in on a fundraiser to save everyone's favorite scaled beasties.
Dementors Dementing - What do you call a herd of Dementors?  Find out and get in on the action!
Hogwarts Kids are Howling - The Hogwarts Howler is under new leadership, and your student characters can come write for it!
The First Rule of Battle Club Is... - Find out about the newest club in the Room of Requirement.

The Third Task finally came to an end, with one of the teams catching the Golden Snidget.  When the points were tallied and the smoke cleared, Salem had moved past Durmstrang into the lead.

    • New AO Logo

At the beginning of the year we got the ball rolling to create our very own original logo.  Members took part in two polls to share what we think an AO logo should be like.  A few members volunteered to help put together a logo.  After exchanging ideas for a few months, this is what we came up with!

New NPC Center and Infoboxes at the Wiki

Our highly skilled wiki captain Cody/Kelvin Watkins has created an NPC Center.  Because he's amazing.

      • See a comprehensive list of nearly all NPCs created at Absit Omen.
      • Including their house/year and/or job in the world.
      • Sorted by permissions - who can you use freely and who is ask-first
      • List is automatically updated when you add an NPC to the wiki

Cody has also been hard at work making the wiki better and better and his latest project has been these handy infoboxes.  Finding basic information about characters has never been easier! Just fill in the blanks!

Don't Forget the Absit Omen Census!

Ages ago, we conducted a tiny survey to find out more about ourselves as a group.  Time has passed and we're dead curious again!  We mentioned it last Fortnight Flyer, but please take a few moments to take a short totally anonymous survey.  Please only fill out the survey once.  You'll be able to view the results once you complete it.

March 2010 Weather Forecasts for London and Hogwarts

London Forecast for March 16-31, 2010

Compared to Scotland, London has gotten off easy this winter, but that's going to change in the second half of March.  After a brief false spring in the middle of the month, wintery weather comes back with a vengeance when the barometric pressure drops and a storm front comes raging in.  Contrary to the old idiom, March goes out like a roaring lion. Strong storms move across Great Britain bringing torrential rains, heavy winds and even the scattered thunderstorm.  The Starks had it right: Winter is always coming.

      Best Sunny Days: March 16th
Watch for storms and snow: March 19th - 31st

Hogsmeade & Hogwarts Forecast for March 16-31, 2010

Far be it for Hogwarts to get off easy.  Though there are some mildly sunny days earlier in the month, the same storm system that plagues London heads north on March 28.  Plenty of wind, rain, and snow makes the end of the month blustery and cold.

Enjoy the Sun!: March 19th, 22nd, and 27th.
Watch for rain!: March 25th - 26th, and get ready for that big Westeros-style storm that rolls in on March 28th!
