[February 21] Make a Splash [OPEN]

on October 22, 2013, 01:27:13 PM

This thread is for having fun in the rain. Come splash, dance, and get wet. Make the best of the weather. Have a friendly water fight (think wands instead of water guns). Don't forget your wellies and coats and warming charms! Umbrellas are optional, but FLOWER CROWNS FOR EVERYONE. They can dry off and track mud through the school later.

MAKE A SPLASH!

Lua kicked a bright rubber wellie through a puddle of cold rain water, sloshy, frozen grass, and mud that was obviously teeming with secrets. It was about the only thing the Gryffindor would kick, and she did so with a massive smile and echoing laugh. An umbrella had been abandoned several feet back, up the sloping lawn, and drops of water were slicking off her coat and pleasantly tangled mane. She twirled her apple wood wand at the sky, sending a stream of water upward and scrunching her face as it ribboned down. Whirling on the spot as her hair was further soaked, she pointed at the nearest companion who had braved the rain and sent another friendly jet of water in the student’s direction.

With a not-so-evil (at all) cackle, she stumbled backward, her boot sliding despite the sturdy rubber soles. Lua’s giggle turned to a shouting laugh as she tumbled backward into the mud. She reached into to the bag that fallen at her side and pulled out one of many flower crowns she’d made with her peers at odd hours and study breaks. Holding it out to the person she’d just soaked, she asked with great enthusiasm, “Truce?” World peace was the way to go.

The teams were only vague and ever-shifting, and the numerous and random colors of the flower bands made it no easier to decipher who was on which team. Some had brought their own headgear, which only made it more confusing— and wonderful. Under the overcast sky, the lawn was dotted with students chasing one another with wands and water charms, huddling under umbrellas, and using makeshift sleds to make the most of the slushy puddles and convenient angle of the grounds.

Getting out of the stuffy castle was always a welcome reprieve, especially after the cold winter months. So, Addison fully enjoyed this opportunity to go outside. Sure, it was rainy, wet, dirty, and sloshy. But, that wouldn't stop her and it apparently didn't stop everyone else who were outside as well. They were all doing fun kid activities out in the rain in teams, but they were hard to discern who was really on which team.

While she stumbled about, each of Addison's footsteps caused a slight splash in the mixture of water, mud, and grass underneath. Her umbrella was dangling off of her wrist by its strap.  Her wet hair stuck to the back of her neck. Pointing her wand up in the air, she sent a spray of water overhead as she giggled.

Suddenly, a jet of water was shot in her direction. Briefly getting soaked, Addison looked over at the water's source: Lua. With a grin, she sent a jet of water in her classmate's direction. Twirling in another direction, she sprayed more water at yet another person nearby. Losing her balance, she fell into the mud by Lua. She giggled as the girl held out a flower crown to her.

"Truce," she repeated in agreement, with a smile on her face. "Thanks, it's beautiful!" she gushed as she accepted the flower crown. Before long, the flower crown found its place onto of her head.

Lua’s face scrunched at the stream of water from Addison’s wand. It hit her cheek, droplets flying into her hair and narrowly missing her ear. She raised both hands to deflect it, laughing even as she did so. Water cached off her elbow and hit the kid beside her just before she slipped into the mud. The upside to being a witch was being able to cast warming charms on her socks and sweaters.

She was glad it was Addison who got caught in the dirt beside her; despite Lua’s eternal optimism, not everyone on the lawn would agree to a truce. (But she was working on that! Some people liked to be tough biscuits, and that was alright). “It looks good on you,” she appraised, reaching up to make sure her own was still on her head. Her tangle of hair ensured that it was. She looped a few strands around it before rolling up her sleeve and jumping into the chaos.

The pattern of mud on her bright wellies was like an abstract painting. Lua pushed up from the wet grass and found her balance with legs spread wide, like a child learning to ice-skate. She hopped into place spryly— thanks to a penchant for adventures, yoga, and sheer Luaness— and darted uphill past a fifth year who had turned an empty butterbeer crate into a sled (helped, no doubt, by shoddy charmswork). The sled had barely missed her, and veered in a wonderful curve toward a huddle of third year girls, who screamed impressively. A much smaller boy was sitting back to back with the one steering the sled, sending more streams of water and even the occasional wand-made snowball at unsuspecting peers.

Looking over her shoulder as she ran, Lua waved an arm wildly in Addison’s direction. “Watch out behind you!” She called.

Josh was participating in a water fight in the grounds, despite the rain. He was merrily spraying water at various people, when he felt his robes get hit by water from someone else. spinning around, he saw Addison turning away, with Lua Taylor nearby. He was about to return fire, when he saw a sled sliding aoround. yeha, it is getting muddy. I'll have to be careful going in. Josh thought, turning back to Addison, quickly spraying water at her.

Jack saw the older kids having a blast, literally. He wanted to go and have some fun with them, but he felt like he would annoy them. So there he stood under one the many pillars nearby, looking on with a face of adoration. He felt like a little child trying to grab the cookie jar, only the cookie jar was too high up to reach.

After some time staring at the students spraying jets at each other, Jack finally decided to join in on the fun. He was about halfway to reaching the students when someone came in on a sled. Jack jumped out of the way, only to land in a very dirty puddle. He picked himself up and quickly got over the yuckyness[1] of the mud and joined in.

Of course he was probably the youngest there and still couldn't cast spells willy, but he was able to hold his ground. Since he couldn't blast water, he was left to using the first years charms and splash the water at the others. Jack failed the first few times, getting attacked by everyone didn't give him time to focus on the spell, but was soon able to make a small wave in the direction of the person who knocked him over on the sled, for a little playful pay back.

 1. How on earth do you spell that?

Jumping up from her spot, Addison was immediately soaked by another spray of water by a third year boy. Shooting a stream of water at him, she was just about to run in a different direction.

“Watch out behind you!”

Lua warned her before she saw it, and Addision had to jump out of the way quickly. Despite narrowly missing the speeding sled, a spray of mud hit her. It was certainly a surprise to her, despite being outside in the rain. She should have known that it was possible to spray mud around. After taking a moment to regain her composure, she broke out in a run up the hill.

She didn't get too far, when Josh sprayed her with water. Giggling, Addison sent another spray of water at him before running up the hill again. She took care to sidestep a first year boy on her way.

The sled was wreaking glorious havoc, using the mud as its (harmless, but certainly gloopy) weapon of choice. It had hardly swerved into a handful of bowling-pin students when someone though to liven up the party with a bit of music. Lua turned around with a look of dreamy incredulity… only it wasn't so incredulous, because she was not the sort of girl who disbelieved in, well, anything. A sixth year was looking cool as a cat, despite the fancy, mud-caked flower crown and sopping wet clothes (which only served to make him cooler, really). He stood beside an oversized umbrella propped at the top of the lawn, looking as if he’d just cast the Best Spell Ever. Beneath its charmed, peacock spread, the umbrella house a Wireless that was now blaring wizarding pop music that seemed to have been cut with something out of a muggle sci-fi film.

The water park had a DJ.

Lua raised in arm in the air, waving a thumbs up as if she were trying to catch someone’s attention from a deserted island. A sour Slytherin whose cloak was not particularly waterproof froze. With a clairvoyance that would have made the Divination professor weep, the girl seemed to sense impending ridiculousness.

Less vinegary Slytherins, of whom there were perhaps a surprising number (again, not to Lua), took up the music’s cue. Their dancing was inspirational: Lua turned round yet again and tugged at the hand of the nearest student, pulling the witch or wizard into a kind of sideways sashaying club hop that clashed fantastically with the hybrid song's more ominous bass. Defenseless and completely unbothered, she shivered as another stream of water hit her neck. There was enough hair blooming from her head to provide a bit of cushion from the chilly spatter. "Can you waltz?" It wasn't really a question, though, because the Gryffindor was already transitioning and bringing her dancing partner with her into the loosest waltz one could manage and still call it a waltz.
