Physical Description:
Linus stands at a proud 4’3 in height. He’s rather skinny and scrawny, so he gives off the appearance of being smaller than he actually is. His shoulders are a little large in proportion to the rest of him, but sharp and boney. In fact, everything about him is sharp and boney—his knees and elbows are knobby and his limbs are gangly, similar to a baby horse.  His feet are large, but he hopes to grow into them like great dane puppies do.

His hair is short and wiry and dirty blonde in color. Linus’ eyebrows are arched, but only a few shades darker than his fair skin, making it look like he doesn’t have eyebrows at times. His eyelashes are short and fine, and his eyes are a hazel that is almost closer to brown than green.  Linus has thin lips and a goofy smile that reveals rather large teeth. He feels like his defining feature are his large, round ears that stick out no matter what sort of hat he wears.  He wants to grow out his hair to cover them, but his mother prefers to keep his hair short.

Linus prefers to wear clothes that are colorful and don’t always match, much to his mother’s chagrin. His clothes are usually at least a size too large as he finds loose clothing to be the most comfortable.  He walks with confidence and pride, though he tends to trip on his shoelaces that are usually untied.


Personality Description:
Linus loves attention, both the good and the bad. He sees both as an opportunity to make people laugh and show them how awesome and fantastic he is. When adult figures are angry, or trying to scold him, he tries to react in a comical way—defusing the situation with humor tends to work with his mother, so why wouldn’t it work with the professors?

He has a tendency to run his mouth and talk, just to hear himself speak. He loves to chat with his classmates and professors, talk about whatever is fascinating him at the moment, and above all, he loves to plot pranks on the people around him. The victims of his pranks are usually his friends, and he expects them to get their revenge on him, and is always disappointed when they don’t. He has a bit of a temper, but it cools down as quickly as it flares up.  His greatest character flaw is his recklessness-- he does not think before acting, and while it can be good in some situations, it usually gets him in trouble.

He is curious about muggles, but doesn't know much at all about muggle culture and is rather ignorant when it comes to anything involving them.

Linus is a bit embarrassed by his middle name (Barnaby), and will not hesitate to sock his friends in the head with socks if they tease him for it. However, he is proud of the name Linus because it sounds like Lion, and he’s a Gryffindor! In his own head, he calls himself “Linus the Lion.” He also likes to rhyme words together for fun, or put words together that sound similar. He avoids saying them out loud too much, because he doesn’t want to seem like he’s weird or anything.


History:
Linus was born on August 20, 1998 to Audrey Hughes, who was only 19 at the time. His biological father is a muggle, and they had been broken up at the time Audrey discovered she was pregnant. Since he was a muggle, she felt like introducing him to the magical world at such a tumultuous time would do more harm than good, so she has raised Linus with the help of her parents. Like his uncle Flynn, Linus did not inherit his mother’s veela charm. He largely takes after his muggle father in looks, though his coloring is closer to his mum’s.

For the first few years of his life, he lived in the house his mother grew up in, with his grandparents, his mom, and all their plants.  When he was five years old, his mom was finally able to afford a nice little cottage in Hogsmeade, close to the photography studio that she worked at. He was anxious and eager to go to Hogwarts, but he had to wait for the inevitable letter to arrive the summer he turned 11. Waiting was torment, with Hogwarts just right there. In the meantime, he visited relatives, helped his grandpa Ianto with the plants, and listened to his grandma Zena tell family stories. Although his mum and grandmother are exceptionally beautiful with Veela charm, to him they look like regular people. Growing up around them, and being part veela himself, has made him a little bit oblivious to the charm in others, though he can sometimes detect it.

His relationship with his mother is mostly positive—she is prone to being stressed out and has quite the temper, though she doesn’t take it out on her son. Linus tries to defuse her anger with humor, and it almost always works. When it doesn’t, he at least is able to get a smile out of her.

Excited didn’t even begin to cover how Linus felt when he finally received his letter to Hogwarts. It was a great way to meet people! Lots of folks had lifelong relationships with the friends they made during Hogwarts! He wasn’t sure which house he’d be in, all of them seemed nice enough. Most Hughes were Gryffindors, but his uncle Flynn and his mother were the exception.

It seemed though, that Linus was not the exception. The hat had barely touched his ears when it announced his placement into Gryffindor.

So far, he is enjoying Hogwarts. He’s experienced his very first detention! He’s met all these awesome people, though he often feels small when the upperclassmen are around. So far, he feels like he does well in Herbology, but he enjoys his other classes too. In flying, he felt a bit clumsy but did well enough after crashing a few times.  His grades aren’t anything extraordinary, but he’s passing.

Linus is courageous, spunky, and definitely full of nerve. He's loyal to his friends and is not afraid to try anything new. Gryffindor suits him, and his family has a long history of being placed into Gryffindor.
