If Muggles were to see the Briar Cottage, they would only see a dilapidated house covered in thorns that never blossom with roses. Should a Muggle move too closely, the nosy sod will encounter the thorns suddenly catching fire and a booming voice telling them the place was cursed forever more, which usually sends them screaming. Were they to return with a witness at a later time, they would be befuddled--for nothing, not even the house, would be there. Wizarding folk, however, see the cottage in its normal state (as shown above). The cottage is surrounded by a rickety wooden fence that one enters through a gate. Thorn vines creep along this fence and have been bewitched to snag and harm intruders that may pose a threat to the family. Every spring, the thorn vines will blossom out roses of all colors and, in summer, welcoming sunflowers. The front yard is quite unkempt with weeds growing everywhere and gnomes sometimes popping their heads up. Wind chimes made of brightly colored gemstones and copper pipes jingle merrily to welcome friends and guests from the front porch landing, where a shabby chic chair sits. The doorknocker is a vibrant turquoise Blackthorn tree with a branch reaching across for as the actual knocker. The interior is quite different: whereas the exterior is a stark white, the walls of the rooms are all sorts of bright shades and hues, often covered in portraits of the family and their adventures (or misadventures, depending on whom is in the picture) or ancestors. Upon first look within the home, one will see countless amounts of junk decorating the room, but looking at things again, they will see treasures: Sneak-o-scopes hidden in plain sight, palmistry hands, jars with ritual symbols emblazoned, bejeweled trinket boxes full of candy, large decorative bowls over-run with crystals and gemstones. Pillows, blankets, and tattered fabrics, all in assorted colors and patterns, are hung around doors, windows, and sometimes even just on walls for no reason--along with more bedazzling trinkets such as the wind chimes. The home is very Bohemian and maintains a very magical atmosphere that easily makes anyone feel right at home!Areas5 bedrooms3 Reception Rooms3 bathroomsDownstairsKitchenLiving AreaSunroomParlorUpstairsMaster Bedroom/BathroomAngerona's RoomSerenity Lee's RoomMorrigan's RoomGuest BedroomBathroomGroundsBackyardGardenGreenhouse/Store Room Skip to next post Re: Grimm Manor Reply #1 on October 06, 2013, 02:32:00 PM DownstairsEntrance Area- This is what one sees when entering the home.Living Area- The Living Area is where the family gather and also receive many friends. On first glance, it is a cozy, maroon room with a giant window on the left wall and magnificent stone hearth on the right. It is cluttered with soft couches and chairs as well as wide cushions; blankets of all patterns and colors; many potted trees and plants; tables, trunks serving as tables, and shelves that are home to teetering piles of books, comic books, or magazines, candles, crystals, dice, and muggle board games; and dozens of portraits, assorted fabrics, decorative lanterns, and chimes of all shapes, sizes, and themes hanging from the walls. Over the hearth is the large portrait of a fiercesome witch with red hair, blue eyes, and a black dress: the first of the Blackthorne line, Morrigan. Kitchen/Dining Room- The Kitchen/Dining Room only add to the soul of the home. It is a unique combination of blue and green, accented by warmer colors such as pink and sunflower yellow. Herbs are hung from the rafters, hundreds of muggle novelties are set here and there, and mixed chinaware sets are displayed in a hutch located near the door that leads out of the kitchen. Potted plants and herbs and suncatchers made of gemstones, wire, glass beads, and painted tin cans haunt the window beside the door. Just over the threshold is a curtain of astrological fabric. The entire kitchen smells of homecooked meals and freshly baked goodies.Sunroom- The sunroom is where Romulus and Morgana spend a lot of their time watching their children play outside. It has a few pieces of furniture, windows that take up almost the full length of the walls, a furnace for keeping warm in the winter (along with a cauldron and kettle), a radio, and dozens of potted plants to clutter the room rather than other decorative treasures.Parlor- The Parlor is hidden by a bookcase in the living room. Some of the family's more important secrets are kept here, though they are not something the Ministry should be suspicious of. This room is the result of Romulus's parents', Pearl and Angus, insisting that he and his family should be showing off their heritage. It is only used for their more highly decorated guests. The room is devoid of the family's usual personality (such as the cluttered decor) and is instead perfectly tidy and formal. It is a circular, ivory room with a vast hearth in the center and from the hearth growing up the walls on either side of the room is a giant Blackthorn tree, a testament to the family's purity. Each leaf has the name of a family member scrawled across it in legible yet untidy script. Painted around the branches are crows, the symbols of their ancestor, Morrigan. They are not purists and do not like to show off this tree except to those who seem to believe they are scum. The family tree includes both the Ruggles' and the Blackthornes' verification of their purity. The semi-circle sofa match the walls in color whereas the table is the color of the Blackthorn Family Tree: ebony. Hanging above from the ceiling is a masterpiece of an ivory chandelier with ebony flames. Morrocan lanterns are hung strategically to give off the perfect amount of lightning to set a mood. There is a large King-size bed on one side of the room curtained by different fabrics, a large Blackthorn wardrobe, a vanity covered in assorted linens, and celestial-themed lamps. On the opposite side is a couch snugged into a wall with a curtain to give privacy, a tiny table for refreshments, and a celestial-themed mirror for decoration.Master Bathroom- The Master Bathroom is a sunny room full of tiles, pictures, plants, and candles. There are also lots of different bars and bottles of soaps and washing liquids. The windows are enchanted to reflect like a mirror on the outside panes whenever someone is in the bathroom doing their private business.Angerona's Bedroom- Angerona's room is off limits to her family. She keeps the floor as tidy as possible which means the other furniture such as her night stand, book shelf, and round desk are all cluttered with the things she collects. Her primary collection are bottles: mason jars, potion bottles, muggle Coke bottles, etc. She keeps some of her more treasured objects in them, such as dice for D&D (not that she will ever admit to playing it at Hogwarts), runes, Scrabble pieces, tumbled gemstones, and herbs. Some of the bottles even contain different specimen of dirt! On her book shelf, one can find rather advanced books on potions, beauty charms, curses & counter-curses, transfiguration, and more than anything else, numerology and astronomy--her two best subjects at Hogwarts.Serenity Lee's Room- Serenity Lee's room is more of a nook. A very cozy, nerdy nook. Lining both walls above her bed, which is cramped against the far wall, are shelves filled with books. There are three tables to hold her candles and trinkets: artifacts of both muggle and magical origins. A single window shows her the front yard where she can watch the muggle inhabitants of Godric's Hollow go about their daily lives. Also on the wall are muggle movie posters and a few framed pictures of her, her family, and her friends.Morrigan's Room[/u]- Morrigan's room is very strange: the enormous amount of pink and white, accessories and clothes littered everywhere, a Tearose Tea Set placed neatly on a play table, and fashion magazines overwhelming her child-size bookshelf all suggest the room belong to a very girlie young lady. However, within the fireplace, on the window sill, and atop her mantle and headboard are over two dozen potted plants! Clumps of dirt, leaves, and grass have fallen here and there on the floor. The room is extremely messy.Bathroom- Other than the Master Bathroom, there is only one other bathroom in the house right down the hall from the girls' rooms. This bathroom is shared and kept clean by a rotating cleaning schedule. Each girl has her own drawer (charmed for extra space) and place for hanging their towels. It was Morrigan's idea to liven the place up with potted and hanging plants and her sisters found it quite refreshing. The window to this bathroom is also charmed to give privacy to the user.Guest Bedroom- This room, the loft, was once Romaine's bedroom. After he graduated Hogwarts and earned himself a solid career in the Ministry of Magic, he moved out. The family cleared out his room with the exception of a plain bed, wardrobe, chair, and nightstand for overnight guests. There is only one tree in the backyard that blesses a certain area with shade. Under this tree is a large round table and several chairs for sitting. Turkish candle lanterns and mason jars with tea light candles hang from the branches to provide lighting for the table.Painted rocks, tumbled gemstones, colorfully patterned fountains, muggle garden statues (such as gnomes and angels), fairy houses, and even shabby furniture are hidden on the pathway towards the greenhouse. Plants can be found potted in many things besides terracotta pots such as boots, tea cups and kettles, colorful broken bottles, chandliers, old tree stumps, and even the drawers of an antique dresser.Greenhouse- The Greenhouse is tucked away at the back of the garden. The family grows their own herbs (all legal, of course), collects their own ingredients, and brew their own potions at home. These potions are never sold and are only for personal use.
