City & Country of Birth: Ferndale, Wales; UK
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
House & Year: Gryffindor; 1st Year

Wand: Willow, 6 1/4 inches, Dragon heartstring. It is surprisingly bendy with a spiraled shaft.

Physical Description:
Faye is a tiny little thing; she has a scrawny yet limber build. Her hands and feet are both small and she can easily be swallowed by her clothes if they are not tailored properly. The clothes themselves are often ghastly fashion-wise as she has no sense of color coordination or what anyone would refer to as "taste" when it comes to dressing herself.

Her face resembles that of a pixie although it is quite a bit more round with a cute little nose, freckles, and a wide mouth. Her eyes are also small, set apart at a pleasant distance, and are blue in color save for the golden star-burst ring around the iris. On rare occasions, her eye color appears to turn green with the same star-burst effect.

Most notably on Faye, however, is her red hair. It grows wild, often refusing to bow down to the demands of a solid brushing. She wears it down all the time, unintentionally hiding her face with the tangled bush.

Personality Description:
'Quiet' is not the most accurate word to describe this little one. She is practically a mute due to her insecurities and desire to hide from the world; Faye is naturally shy and bashful, often embarrassed by attention itself. There is also a mysterious air to her since her lasting impression on people isn't only that she's quiet, but that she's frightened, as though something is haunting her. This silent  exterior, however, hides a rather unexpected personality.

Among many things, Faye is witty and intelligent. She has an impressive amount of knowledge on the history of the wizarding world and is more than adept at obtaining information and memorization. That is not to say she has a perfect memory, oh no! Her memorization skills are focused solely upon books and what she has read or practiced. The answers to a test come naturally; recalling that teacher's name who taught her to fly? Not so much. It is worth noting that while this charming girl has an odd relationship with books rather than people, she is not by any means a "by-the-book" kind of student. She does not lecture or correct others nor does she have the impulse to be a bossy know-it-all.

In spite of her insecurities, extreme bashful quality, and shyness, Faye is brave. She is brave in the sense that she does not run from bullies and believes that standing up for what is right is always important--however silent her stance might be. Were she to ever have friends, her fierce loyalty would rarely be rivaled.

Faye, like many people, has a few eccentricities. As she has grown up poor and uneducated, the child had very little to her name. Therefore, it's only natural for her to latch on to what material things she can: broken wands, outdated textbooks, week-old Bertie Bott's. She is a hoarder to the extreme because she's never had many material possessions.

Another quirk of hers is that she has horrible grammar in her speech. Her voice is raspy, often shrill since she never uses it. On the rare occasion that she does speak, it is with a very thick British "poor-man's" accent and terrible grammar. To go along with it, she has awful spelling and the handwriting skills of a well-educated elementary student.

Among Faye's other oddities is her severe lack of anything fashionable (she wears clothes that are too big for her unless they were specifically tailored by her grand-mother or her poorly skilled house-elf nanny), her nose turns red when she's embarrassed or angry, she eats a lot, her lack of tact (this is often mistaken for her lack of compassion), and she likes to go barefoot whenever possible. As she is practically mute, Faye also has an innate knack for body language, talking with her hands, and facial expressions.

History:
Anastasia, a muggle-born and highly adept at potions and charm work, married Elias Ruggles almost right after they graduated Hogwarts. As they had not received top NEWTs or OWLs that would commend them for a high career among the prestigious Ministry of Magic or St. Mungo's Hospital, the two decided to travel for a bit and give themselves time to decide what they wanted to do.

At the end of that five year span, their daughter Faye was born. This caused the pair to mature quickly and they made their last move to a small, peaceful village in southern England. Elias played Quidditch for a time while his wife took care of the baby. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious injury and had to retire. They were growing desperate for money.

Anastasia, who was talented as a seamstress and decorator, helped many of the local women with their homes and tailoring. During this time, she got the brilliant idea of posing as the muggle version of a witch and helping them with their non-magical problems! The couple would brew potions or perform spells to help a muggle with his/her problem in exchange for money (which they would exchange at Gringott's for wizarding currency). They were discreet about their workings and careful to cover their tracks, but an incident with a dead cat coming back to life brought upon an investigation from the Ministry that resulted in the arrest of both parents.

Faye, only two years old at the time, was sent to live with her pure-blooded grandmother, Opal Ruggles. Although Opal lived by herself in a cottage on the outskirts of southern London, she was often visited by her other children and grandchildren. She tried to get Faye to socialize with her cousins, aunts, and uncles, but the girl barely said a word. Most of her family suspected she was traumatized by her parents' arrest, but her cousins just thought she was weird.

At the age of four, the momentarily unsupervised grandchildren got their hands on a wand and tried out various spells. As one cousin's mother was an Obliviator for the Ministry, he tried to cast a Memory Charm. Opal, by accidentally walking in, was the unsuspecting victim. She was immediately rushed to St. Mungo's, who claimed that while she was still capable of independent living, there was mental damage that could not be undone.

One of Faye's aunts allowed her house-elf, Muffy, to live with Faye and Opal. Muffy was responsible for the cooking, care-taking, and education of Faye. Muffy had poor English and could read very little and write even less. Her grandmother had a library of wizarding books and as she could not pronounce or read anything in spell or potions books, she stuck to the history section. Names were difficult, but she furthered her education a little more by reading every day. Opal, of course, would read with her every night and help as much as her damaged brain would allow.

At the age of nine, the Daily Prophet reported the death of Elias Ruggle within the walls of Azkaban. Her mother, Anastasia, remained alive and was to be released after her ten year sentence was up. Faye asked her aunts and uncles about her mother and they told her about what happened. She didn't believe that her mother was a bad person for trying to help muggles and so she sent a letter to Azkaban. Anastasia never replied. The only piece of mail that Faye has ever received outside of her aunts and uncles is her Hogwarts Letter.

Faye is a loyal, brave, and possibly foolish child. She stands up in the face of bullies and despite her silence the girl has a way of getting her point across very clearly.

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Faye is a bashful little thing who remains a mystery to everyone around her for the simple reason that she rarely talks. She has an impressive amount of body language and a grandeur penchant for memorization. As she has not owned many things in her life, Faye is also a hoarder and collects things that she has an unusual categorization for.
