Is this a Primary or Secondary Character?: Primary | Full Character Name: Mai Scarlett Clark Character Birthday & Age: October 23, 1992 / 17 City & Country of Birth: London, United Kingdom Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood House & Year: Ravenclaw Sixth Year Wand: Eleven inches, Hawthorn, Dragon Heartstring, Rigid nature with a spiraled shaft.
Physical Description: Standing at a small 160 centimeters and barely weighing 48 kilograms, Mai doesn't appear very intimidating at first glance. Quite the contrary, actually, she is a very pretty girl with very dark brown, shoulder length hair and uncharacteristically non-reflective dark green eyes and maybe a bit more pale than she should be. Her good looks can only really be properly viewed when she's focused (reading, studying or some other task that requires her focus) because she tends to instinctively glare at anyone nearby otherwise. She occasionally dyes her hair and uses potions brewed herself to grow back her hair; she has no tattoos yet but her left nostril is pierced and her ears are gauged to a modest diameter. Her uniform is worn modestly and is brand new every year - most of her summer savings go into new clothes and equipment every year seeing as she would otherwise be able to only purchase secondhand items. She does it to keep her home life from being questioned by most. Her

normal clothes are all from thrift stores and they only look as nice as they do because Mai has proven to be an amazingly smart shopper due to her lack of funds. Her style of clothing vastly ranges from day to day and she's not particularly picky or obsessive with her appearance - she prefers brightly colored clothes, though.
Personality Description: One of the most quiet people you will find when she's undisturbed, Mai very rarely speaks to anyone about anything at all. Her silence is sometimes mistaken as timidness (very wrongly mistaken, as it's soon discovered) and thus it's not completely uncommon for people to attempt to approach her to befriend her as she usually seems incapable of approaching anyone else. When approached, though, insults flow from quiet spoken words and eyes narrow in focus regardless of if the person was friendly or otherwise.
In most cases Mai sends the offending person away either confused, angry, depressed or all of the above. Her comments are usually witty and malicious, preying off insecurities and weaknesses observed in her 'opponents'; with that being said, she deeply buries away her own insecurities to prevent both her secrets from being uncovered and to attempt to keep herself emotionally numb from rumors and insults other people try and dish out to her.
With her guards down, though, Mai is a much more subdued and polite person. Even though she's naturally introverted, she desperately craves friends and like-minded companions - she's just too paranoid and afraid of rejection to allow most people close enough to her to become her friend. She's fiercely loyal to those she deems worthy of it and is very trustworthy - she knows better than most how important it is to protect secrets and is very | |
capable of protecting other's secrets. She's has a very high IQ and her grades are abnormally high even for a Ravenclaw; her impressively high grades are attributed to her almost genius status and constant studying.
 | History: Born to a muggle mother and a wizard father, Mai had a rather unconventional childhood. Her mother, a devoted and right-wing Catholic, went off her rocker when she learned that her new husband was a wizard and was quick to file for divorce. Between the constant fighting and the fact that her mother was loudly spewing that she was married to a depraved savage, her father was forced to cut all contact with her, never knowing his ex-wife was pregnant with his child. Mai has never met him.
Mai has been rebelling against her mother's strict and religious rules since she was a young child and because of it she never got along with the social group (or the children in it) that her mother forced her into. Being teased for never fitting into the zealous group, her social skills have always been stunted and she grew up with a very distanced, stoic attitude towards people. It wasn't until she was eleven and her letter to Hogwarts came that everything changed forever.
Mai was never religious like her mother and their 'friends'; when the letter came, she was surprised and a little cautious. A hoax set up by her mother? She thought so until a screaming match between them came the truth–her father was a wizard that her mother had chased away because of the 'satanic rituals' he brought into their house. |
For better or worse, that admission set Mai's mind to go to Hogwarts despite her mother's threats that if she went, not to return. Mai left to Hogwarts and during the summer returned to an empty house. Her mother was long gone, having abandoned her daughter and her house behind. Mai has been bounced from foster home to foster home since then with none of the families keeping her for more than six months and has only very recently started living on her own during the summer break, working to pay for her needs as she's no longer under the state's care.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Mai devours knowledge whenever accessible; her thirst to prove herself and her ambitions almost landed her in Slytherin, but her overwhelming need to know more and the way she makes her own path instead of following other's examples turned her to Ravenclaw instead.
Writing Sample: She was late again-well, almost late. Her shoes clicked on the stone floor as she sped across it, green eyes narrowed in annoyance as she pushed her way past numerous students without much regard for them. Normally she'd at least murmur an apology but right now the sixth year was frazzled, tired and so close to being late that her politeness had dried up. With a book under one arm, she twisted her body around a duo of students as they popped out of the bottom of the staircase, bracing herself with the rail as she climbed rapidly, taking them two at a time. Probably not the best idea as she ran smack into someone at the top and would have fallen down that long flight of stairs if her grip on the banister hadn't been firm.
Glaring up at the offending boy, she pushed past him with a snarl of "Get out of my way," before rushing down the hallway again, not bothering to wait for any response from her peer even though he called down the hall, 'Unbearable prat,' after her. She hadn't the time or the patience for pleasantries right now so she only threw him a glare over her shoulder, vanishing down another corridor.
She barely made it in time to class, honestly; she breathed out a deep sigh of relief as she stepped into the classroom just as time ran out. It was rare for her to be late and she was glad she'd managed to keep it that way; a few students gave her tired and rushed appearance a second glance but she ignored it to settle into her seat. They really weren't her problem and she could care less what they thought of her-at least that's what she told herself while ignoring soft snickers, diving into her work and letting the outside world fade away completely.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Mai is generally a quiet, mild mannered person when she's not being harassed or hasn't been riled into a foul mood. When she feels threatened, though, she becomes cold and clinical, verbally attacking the offender until they leave her alone. She's a rather lonely person as it's more often than not that she offends any interested peers, driving them away from her. She aspires to be great, proving her worth and that her decision to join the magical community at the cost of her family was the right one.
