[February - ?] Can You Keep A Secret? [Liv]

Don’t get all excited that I’m writing. Don’t go thinking I miss you, because I don’t. I could do without perfectly, if not for the fact that I still have matters I’m invested in at Hogwarts, and I’m going to need you to carry on with them. Nothing too complicated, and I would have preferred to speak with you over the summer, but Berlin with all its beautiful wonders simply invaded my ever waking conscious, and I could hardly think of much else. So just make sure to keep this letter hidden –it wouldn’t make me happy to hear my private matters are being tossed around the school like confetti.

But I guess I’m being rude, as I should have began with talking about my feelings and emotions and my day-to-day life out of school, and then followed by asking you about how you’re doing. The rules of society are sometimes baffling: why should I act like I care, when I don’t? It’s not as if we aren’t both aware that our friendship is more a matter of convenience rather than actual closeness or any sense of affection. You could drop dead and I wouldn’t shed a tear, and viceversa I believe, so why should I have to talk to you about my private life?

Still, it’s only polite, so here it goes: after finishing school, Father informed me I’d be starting to work for the company as soon as I got back from Berlin. Perhaps I was too brusque in informing him I would be doing no such thing, for the very day I got back from my trip he let me know I was no longer his heir –and tossed me out on my bum. Literarily: my favorite pair of pants are no so badly stained with mud that they cannot be worn ever again. Now, see? This is the part where you’d be all worried about me, if we actually gave a flying hippogriff about each other. Instead, I’m certain you’re looking quite amused. But, none the matter: I’m living with Balthazar, and actually doing the job circuit. You know me –I’m not about to be beaten by that son of a bitch.

Enough about me, though. How’s your year going at school, Wiedman? Anything interesting to inform? And do let me know if I should trust you to manage my pressing matters at school, otherwise I simply won’t bother giving you any information. And as I’m aware you’re rather unlikely to do something like this simply to be kind to me, ask for anything in return and it shall be granted. You know there’s nothing I can’t achieve.

Be bad, but do it well,
Ryder Renwick

Renwick -

I will refrain from telling you, you are a spoiled short sighted boy who has, in essence abandoned a vast fortune which you could have spent any way you pleased once the old man was dead, because you wanted to throw a temper tantrum and be in control. I realize I am only sixteen but I think it is worth reminding you that some social grace is needed to get thing done in this world. You may find the acts frivolous but as the one of us yet to be disowned I believe I have a higher authority on this than you do.

Things here are fine, the Monarchy is at peace for the moment as I facilitated a truce between our factions over Winter Hols (see what I mean about social graces being helpful). The current threat, though I hardly consider it a threat comes in the form of the resurgence of the "Hogwarts Mafia" because apparently the first chapter in which the previous ringleader is now in Azkaban has taught no one anything. Other than that there have been a sad few events worth note; other than Figaro Sellaphix apparently getting into the Billywig Stinger trade. Cor he's an idiot, I do not even have time to count the ways.

I, myself, am fabulous if a bit busy with school work, a lovely boyfriend, and being the ever active social butterfly. As always depending on what it is you want done I may or may not be interested. You can either trust me or not, you know it hardly matters to me at all. I hate to be the one to break it to you but I think for the most part your so called stranglehold on Slytherin has dissipated due to neglect. You should work on that.

Regards,

Liviana

Wiedman,

I hate to sound like a dictionary, here, but I rather feel you’re missing out on the fact that ‘refrain’ means to ‘keep from’ doing something. I realize you have teachers to teach you this kind of crap, but obviously you just aren’t paying attention, or you might simply be a bit dafter than I’d thought. And I really rather you not try to go around imparting lessons on me –I ruled Hogwarts when I was there, and you know it. I made a slight miscalculation with Father, but I’ll be right back where I belong in no time.

The Monarchy will surviva, with or without you. Still, social grace is my middle name when I need it –Father simply didn’t deserve it, and I honestly didn’t wish to insult your intellect by pretending I wanted us to braid each other’s hair while making dastardly plants to further our own agendas. I felt you were smarter than that –although, considering your little debacle with failing to understand what ‘refraining’ means… Well, I’ll have to hold you in question until you once again prove yourself. I still have faith you’ll manage it, though –take that as you may. The ‘Hogwarts Mafia’ isn’t a threat, unless it becomes one, so you might want to see about destroying it from the get go. It’s always better to eliminate potential threats, than to deal with them in hindsight.

Ha! Come now, Wiedman, I might have left but now I’m back, and even from outside the castle I will be taking hold of my proverbial crown once again. You were always a charming lieutenant, and time might prove I need someone to stand in for me at the castle. For now, I need to know whose running things around Slytherin –and then I need a meeting with them. If I’m systematically going to destroy a person, I much rather do the dirty work in person. And don’t claim yourself as royalty –I highly doubt you’ve taken the top place just yet.

Renwick -

If these are the best insults you can manage I am going to be forced to believe you smoked your brains out in Amsterdam and aren't fit for polite society any longer.

Here is how this works Ryder: you were at best amusing while you were here. Now you're not here, and you don't really matter. Of course you never really mattered, I merely humored you when I had nothing better to do. You have no line in to Hogwarts without me; and believe me when I say I can make sure that happens. Oh you might be able to get a lower year to cave under the pressure of your bombardment of insults, but once everyone knows you've basically pissed all over your family name and fortune you have nothing to offer anyone and if we're really honest it's not like you were ever likable on your own merits. You have no power anymore and you need to understand that because without your father's money the entire way you operate is going to have to change if you expect to get anywhere in this world.

Here is a little advice, when you are thrown out of the Kingdom and want back in, a little respect will get you along way. There is a certain way I expect to be treated - namely because I'm not an idiot, but also because I've earned it. My station is higher than your station - and frankly if you tried to talk to Theo or any of the girls from the Monarchy in the fashion which you have been addressing me they would not be nearly so kind as to explain why you're not important and merely laugh in your dirt-poor face.

It is very important for you to realize you have no cards to play. You have no influence here with anyone who matters. You didn't really have much to start with; we all just humored your delusions of grandeur because we didn't care enough to correct you. Obviously that was an oversight on Maeve's part, because if she had put you in your place you would know better than to piss off the closest thing you have to a friend left in the world. Now if you have anything further to politely ask me for I may be willing to listen. If you ever address me again in the manner you have lately I can ensure a Hufflepuff is more likely to get at Snake Pit politics than you.

None of this even touches on the fact you're desire to "run" things at Hogwarts is pathetic. You're an adult in the real world and you're concerned with what a group of teenagers in Scotland are doing. If you were any kind of power player at all you'd have already parlayed that power into something of substance. Obviously you're still the short sighted ego maniac you were when you left. My advice? Don't be that guy, don't be that loser who peaks at Hogwarts and spends the rest of his life remembering his glory days which were not, in actuality, that glorious.

And lay off the gillyweed, it's probably causing brain damage.

Regards,

Liviana
