I raise my flags, don my clothes
It's a revolution, I suppose
We're painted red to fit right in
Whoa
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age.[1] I. HistoryThe Circus was built on the ruin of nearly every nation, lost souls wandering the streets in search of direction and a place to belong. For many it was a natural progression from being raised in a nomadic lifestyle and performing on street corners in little side show acts across the nation. After the Second Wizarding War, the smuggling caravans took their profit and turned it into a revenue that would provide further support of their wayward lifestyle. The cirque’s main tent was purchased at the end of an era, and what was left of the once famous Russian circus came along with it.
Jean-Luc spent the better part of three years going from town to town in search of refugees able to escape the proper side of the law, and upon the defeat of the Dark Lord they were able to keep the big-top up and slip beneath the radars of the Aurors. Without a single city to call their own, the big show was able to avoid both muggle and wizarding laws, and harbor fugitives against their multicultural background with ease.
II. Cast of CharactersJean-Luc “ The Illusionist” St. Laurence
Jean-Luc traded his blood and wine empire for the wide open possibilities of an open road and a life without rules or regulations. Born the heir to his father’s wine industry he had never known a world where everything he wanted wasn’t at his grasp. With a future in politics and a background in navigating society, the world was at his hands, but the world of his family's fortune simply wasn’t enough to keep his feet on the ground. He took to the streets with a newly required romance and with every little ounce of his responsibility left behind. Seated among the Romany roses he wore their crown of thorns as their King, and kept his vow to lead them into a brighter tomorrow without losing the prints of their past.
Camille “The Conductor” Romanov
Born, Klavdia Romanov, Camille (38) adapted her name after a performance of the theatrical version of
The Lady of the Camellias, a stage adaptation of the Alexander Dumas’ novel in her early teenage years. A runaway from a small railway town in Russia, Camille’s father worked for
The Ministry of the Railways, and her mother was a dressmaker who died very early in Camille’s life. The death took a great toll on the family, and Camille was forced to spend much of her childhood traveling the countryside with her father a conductor. His drinking got heavier and sanity slipping, Camille refused to stay.
Having fled the little railway town, Camille took to the tracks without ever looking back, and spent the next few years with a traveling performing troupe that dabbled both in classic stagework and modern movements that saw them all the way to Moscow. However, the loss of a bet soon had the performing troupe under the care of a raven’s black wing.
Askel “The Angel” Svan
Born in a little town in Sweden, Askel (25) took to the sky at a very young age. He is the only member of the Cirque to have studied at the,
Dans- och cirkushögskolan, the University of Dance and Circus in Norra Djurgården, Sweden. He holds two degrees from the FEDEC (European Federation of Professional Circus Schools) but it was the aerial arts that he excelled the best. Both of his parents were killed during the Second Wizarding War, leaving Askel to execute his revenge in a most curious manner, and his
high flying acts of treason one of the main attractions of the Cirque de la Lune.
Brom “The Strongman” Chisholm
Brom grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, and often competes in the Highland games. Able to lift and toss a caber in a perfect 12:00, he made his living in a smaller traveling promotion of the games, but stumbled down a few wrong turns that lead him running from the law.
Veronica "The Woman of Mirrors" Monroe
Elsa "Old Girl" the Elephant
Elsa, in her prime had been a leading attraction for a small traveling single ring circus, but in her older years now she was simply a beloved member of the family. She wasn’t a leading act, but still stole the show. Decorated in all the glitz and glamour that came with the life, she was as beautiful as ever, but there were miles on the old girl that could simply not be covered—nor should they. The elephant was gentle, kind, and strong. She carried the burden of the daily labor, but like every member of the family, all had their duties to keep.
“She is partly blind, so walk heavily and do your best not to startle her,” Jean-Luc’s command came in a low voice as he touched Darian’s back once more, urging him further, and realized that perhaps this would be their last bit of contact before the day was done and by Kingdom Come all should be forgotten.
