Lawrence Musgrave, has been let out of prison after being put in eleven years and three months ago. He was sentenced to thirteen years for war crimes. The now 47-year-old ex-Auror was jailed on 10 July 1998 for his part in torturing and interrogating Muggleborns during the occupation of the Ministry of Magic during the Second Wizarding War.
He’s been in Azkaban for his entire sentence, however, Musgrave was released early for good behavior and in compensation for losing a hand in an incident with a guard weeks after beginning his sentence in August 1998. Supposedly he lost the hand to a prison guard hunting for revenge, according to his legal representative back in ’98.
Musgrave walked free yesterday and gave us a quick statement:
"I am very pleased to be back in England, and to be able to return to family. I am very grateful for the Ministry of Magic for hearing my appeal and releasing me before the end of my sentence. I have had almost twelve years to realise my shortcomings during the second wizarding war, and am now a humble, repentant man. I look forward to re-establishing myself and to begin contributing to wizarding society again as soon as possible."
Musgrave pleaded not guilty to crimes during his hurried trial in the post-war months even though during his trial, several of his colleagues took to the stand to give evidence against him.
