Full Character Name: Roland "Rou" Aderyn Dylanis V
Character Birthday & Age: December 26, 1997
City & Country of Birth: Swansea, Wales
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Pureblood
House & Year: Hufflepuff. First Year
Wand: Ten inches. Cherry. Dragon-heartstrings. Supple rigidity.
Rou's cherrywood wand possesses a twisted, almost-ergonomic design, fitting perfectly into his hand. The shaft, on the other hand, is very plain and unassuming, befitting his nature. Rou's wand was a personal commission by his grandfather to Ollivander, with the wood specially purchased and imported from Japan, as cherrywood is especially prized for its power in the hands of a properly-trained wizard.
Physical Description: At age twelve, Rou is a fast-growing young boy who has not yet truly entered his puberty stages. As a result, he's experienced a growth spurt that makes him taller than most girls his age or close to, but still shorter than older boys and most full-grown girls.
Rou has broad shoulders, ones he's yet to completely grow into though those same large shoulders shows just how tall and broad he's going to reach.
In terms of facial appearance, Roland has a rather thin, boyish face that still carries a bit of fine definition and tone due to his intense childhood training.
Rou's hair is a mousy brown with small streaks of blond in it.
Personality Description: Due to the training and hardships he went through as a child, Rou is rather mature and even a bit world-weary for his incredibly young age. As such, he's incredibly introverted and a loner at heart, though that outer shell hides an incredibly sharp-witted and sarcastic mind. However, thanks to the belittlement he's suffered over the years, Roland also carries an inferiority complex as well.
However, despite his upbringing, there still hides within a very kind, merciful soul that cares deeply for the ones he loves. Whenever he is on his own, Rou enjoys whittling shapes out of small blocks of wood with his father's dagger, a tragic keepsake from his prematurely-passed childhood. Either that, or he'll read whatever interesting book he can find in the library, like the works of Gilderoy Lockhart or other such literature.
History:Born the son of an American Ministry Auror, Robert Dylanis, and a Welsh pureblood, Sian Bowen, Roland has been raised by his grandfather Roland the fourth ever since his parents' death during the Second Voldemort Crisis, as it's known to the American Ministry. Roland was named for his paternal grandfather, as Roland is a long-running name in his father's family, and Aderyn for his maternal grandfather. Since his grandparents took custody of him, Roland has been brought up to aspire to the ideal of his father Robert, who was an accomplished American Auror dispatched to Britain in the summer of '96 when Voldemort's return became public knowledge.
Home-life for young Roland was tough and, in some ways, brutal. While he couldn't be explicitly instructed in magic by his grandfather, though that didn't stop the old man from trying, Roland IV made damned sure that Rou had at least some, if minor, understanding of magic during the boy's rearing in Swansea as well as the Welsh countryside. Whether it was buying all of Rou's basic schoolbooks early so he could be reading passages from
A History of Magic as early as six or psychologically abusing the child until he manifested minor forms of involuntary magic, grandfather Roland has made damned sure that his successor will be one of the finest Aurors the American ministry will ever see. This has, however, put a bit of a strain on Rou's magical abilities, which have yet to actually grow or flourish. During the summer months, Roland is woken up early every morning by his grandfather, who grills him over what he'd learned during the preceding school year so as to keep it fresh and stuck in the boy's mind. With this, grandfather Roland hopes that the boy will develop an incredibly sharp mind capable of reacting at a moment's notice and thinking fast on its feet, much like that of an accomplished Auror.
Since coming to Hogwarts, Roland has made himself few acquaintances and essentially no friends, behaving a lot like the quiet kid that keeps to himself. Every morning and afternoon, before breakfast and after classes, he'll find himself some solace by sitting by the lake and whittling away at small blocks of wood. His inherently shy and quiet personality befits him, as it means he's not one to approach people nor are they approaching him, and as far as he's concerned he'll prefer it that way.
Even so, being away from his grandfather has allowed him many measures of personal freedom and peace, something he takes immense pleasure in whenever he dwells alone by himself, usually reading a good book or working at something with his hands.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: "There is a great sadness within your mind, young Roland. 'tis a sad thing to see but a grim reality of the times we live in. But still, I detect within you a lust for power and an incredibly knack for courage, though that is not who you truly are. Truly, I sense within you a keen mind, and overall an intense and incredible loyalty. Not just to your country, but to the people that you find affinity for, though that term may change its meaning for you in coming years...
HUFFLEPUFF!"
Writing Sample: The mornings prior to breakfasts and classes were always Roland's favorite time to get himself a bit of a morning stretch. The calm and the solace provided by the clean, crisp air still cool enough that you often felt like you were inhaling dew was encouraging for the young lad. Being only a few months into term, Roland enjoyed this morning ritual between the hours of six and seven, when breakfast would begin, for it afforded him a small measure of peace that helped bring a bit of a simmer to his racing, tumultuous mind.
One of his favorite activities, he found, was kicking and toeing the collected dew upon the grass, his small bare feet giving him quite the enjoyable sensation as he carved himself a small path through the dew-laden grass. That said, as much as he enjoyed it, his experience here in Scotland suggested that the humidity would probably turn into either a crisp chill or a heavy heat once the sun rose, depending on the weather.
"Never get used to this weather," he grumbled to himself as he resolved himself to simply enjoy the morning as it was. When he drew up to the school's lake, the boy contented himself by sitting down upon his favorite rock, setting down his school shoes and enjoying the cool, for the moment, feeling the stone gave to his feet as he sat upon it.
Taking a few deep, solid breaths, Rou opened his eyes to bear witness to the sight of a giant squid lightly gliding just beneath the water in the middle of the lake. Grinning a bit, for the boy always loved such strange, new sights, he reached into his pocket and withdrew two items: A small block of wood and a curved, gleaming dagger for carving. Setting his index finger into the notch specifically cut into the blade for better handling, Roland began to hum tunelessly to him as he began to whittle away at the block...
Sum up your character in one paragraph:Roland is a young, conflicted boy who lost his childhood when he was young: First to Fenrir Greyback and then to his own grandfather. He was trained from a young age to become much like his own father, Robert, by his ambitious grandfather, resulting in an incredible inferiority complex due to the standard he's supposed to live up to. Even so, beneath his loner exterior lies a kind, artistic little boy who only wishes that he had more than just a small steel-and-silver dagger for whittling with which to remember his father by.
