Wand: Aure bought her wand in France when she was eleven. The wood is adler which gives the wand a rather light coloring. It is nice and supple and known for protection charms and counter hexes. The wand is very springy which fits with her energetic nature. The core is a hair from the main of a Kelpie.
Her replacement wand is from Ollivander's which is Ash, springy and dragonheart string.
Physical Description: At first glance, Aureliane Vandalier is average. She's five foot five inches tall, unless she is wearing her usual heels which give her a bit of a boost. She has a rather extensive collection of heels, from wedges to spiky stilettos, in a variety of colors and patterns. She's the type of girl that can actually run in heels. Okay, so it's more of a fast scuttle, but she can move extremely fast for someone balancing on a very thin four inch spike. She also has a pretty big wardrobe. Probably because she hasn't thrown anything away since she was seventeen. She still has her favorite grungy Smashing Pumpkin tee shirt from the summer she dated her future husband Cyrus as a teen. Aure can still be found wearing things she's had for years, recycling a blouse under a suit. She likes suits. She feels comfortable in a good tailored suit like many people feel in jeans. Aure's typical style is classy and elegant with just a bit of vibrancy. At work she's in dress robes or a suit, often she'll wear a bright color under a muted suit or robe, or a almost flashy scarf. When she's not at work she's in sweaters, skirts, flowery dresses. Anything in color. She really likes color and it can show in her clothing. She does try not to clash but sometimes she just feels like not matching. Her hair is a constant pain for her. It's a mixture of waves, curls and straight locks. Her natural hair just cannot decide what it wants to be and the weather just doesn't help the matter. With a few potions and her wand, Aure can usually contain her hair in a smooth bun, or if she tries really hard silky waves or smooth straight locks. The color is her natural deep brown, it's often mistaken for black, but it really is a dark brown. From her father, Aure inherited his milky white skin that burns far to easily. She got the tendency to freckle from her mother. Oh, and her cornflower blue eyes.
Personality Description: If there was only one word in the world to describe Aureliane it would be effervescent. She has this bright enthusiasm for nearly everything she does. Like everyone there are things she doesn't like to do that she has to take care of. But for the most part, Aure tackles things with a lot of energy and love. It always seems that she is running around. She doesn't like to be bored, or still. Even when it looks like she's in one place her mind is whirling, or her toes are tapping.
Aureliane is very energetic and it shows it shelf through her personality. She seems to be everywhere at once doing a thousand things with a never ending burst of energy. She is usually upbeat and positive, which at times is a façade, hiding darker emotions. To some she seems fidgety, finicky and perhaps even ditzy but it is just her way of accomplishing her goals. Her mind processes events quickly which helps her react rapidly and move on to another subject in seconds, usually ahead of the group. She has learned to slow down and interact with others on their level instead of her full speed ahead light years away that is her normal response.
She never does anything halfway. She is hard to push around and can often times be in people’s faces. She is learning how to curb her overly loud personality and often times harsh tongue. She has often gotten into sticky situations due to her lack of tact. She is aware that she can be annoying, especially when she is in a silly mood and will prattle of strange verses just for fun. This is a side of her that is never shown to clients or her boss and maybe to a few co workers. Aure’s energy and eclectic personality is manifested into a strong intensity to succeed at work. She is determined to win all of her cases and sometimes steps on a few toes and bruises a few egos doing so. She doesn’t mean to push others away it is just that she is super competitive. Still, she does all that she can to help those less fortunate than herself by giving them justice through the law.
Behind her bravado, and bright smiles lies a sensitive, vulnerable side of Aureliane. She is afraid of being abandoned and opening up to people. She keeps many people at arms length and never really has a true friend that knows her secrets, the exception is her husband. She has a hard time expressing her emotions correctly. She feels a lot and tries to suppress it in order to seem in control. When the wall breaks down a torrent of emotion explodes.
She can be a bit forceful when she is trying to reach a goal, especially when she loses patience. She is not a lie low and let things happen kind of person. She likes to get involved. She can be jealous, obsessive and compulsive as she tends to act with her strong emotions rather than thinking calmly.
Aure's changed since her disappearance. She's come to be aware that she has to ask for help. A bit of her former confidence has also slipped. She's more unsure than she's ever been before. She's also a bit lost. Unsure of who she had been. This has come across in her every day manners. She's hesitating where she hadn't before. She's also having more quite moments and gets frustrated rather easily now. It's wearing on her that she still can't remember.
History: Aureliane Emilie Vandalier is the only child of Marylou Smyth and Cael D’aubigne, an odd couple at best. Marylou was a young English witch from the middle class area of London. She was the eldest girl of seven when she met Cael D’aubigne, a visiting aristocrat from France. There was something about the way Marylou sparkled that caught the attention of Cael. He was captured by her simple charm and sweet smile. She was different than most of the girls that he had been seeing and he was surprised that he liked it. Some people say that Marylou must have given Cael a love potion in order to capture such a handsome devil-may-care fellow who never seemed tied to any woman for more than a wink, especially one not at his social level. Cael found himself wanting to uncover the secrets he felt that Marylou kept and he asked to see her again. That summer was a magical time for the naïve eighteen year old and she found herself falling in love despite the wild stories she had heard about Cael’s past.
The magical, perfect summer ended with Cael’s impending return to France and a position in his father’s law firm. It had been the first time the twenty three year old playboy had gotten serious with a woman.
He found himself seriously considering breaking his family rules. He had promised after one last trip abroad he would take up his place in the family business, if only to get his mother off of his back. Cael found himself not wanting to go back to France. The feelings he felt for Marylou scared him and he began to distance himself from her and agreed to go back to France even though he told Marylou that he would ask to work in a law firm in England.
Marylou found out she was pregnant a week before Cael told her he was leaving. The young woman was terrified. She knew that Cael was restless and didn’t settle down and that she wasn’t the kind of girl a man such as he was supposed to marry. She thought of ‘taking care’ of the child but her nerve failed her as well as telling Cael about it.
Cael returned to France without knowing about his child. He settled down into his normal routine of drinking late with buddies and hung over days in the office as he tried to drown out the memories of Marylou. Four months passed when Cael met up with a very angry mutual friend of his and Marylou’s.
Richard Bane was Marylou’s elder brother Marc’s best friend and had introduced her to Cael. When he found out that Cael had gotten the girl he considered as a sister pregnant and had abandoned her and the baby he had to step in. Richard stood up as Cael entered the pub in Paris, instead of shaking the man’s offered hand he punched him. Cael had been happy to get an invitation to meet an old pal for a drink, he also had in mind to pump him for information about Marylou. He had been surprised by the greeting. “What in hell was that for?” He demanded. Richard glared at his friend in disgust.
“You don’t just get a girl pregnant and leave her on her own, just because you’re rich doesn’t make you entitled to screw people over. She was a nice girl, D’abugene.”
Cael rubbed his jaw, confused. Who was pregnant? Then it clicked.
“mary’s having a baby?”
“You didn’t know?”
The rest of the conversation was blur. Cael asked a thousand questions and drowned three beers before making a decision. The next day he left his apartment but instead of going to work he magically traveled to England.
Marylou was cleaning tables inside the Leaky Cauldron when the door bell tinkled singling the arrival of yet another costumer. The teenager was five months pregnant and it was showing. Her cornflower blue eyes flickered to the door and froze. The color drained from her face as she saw Cael standing in the doorway. She wanted to melt into the floor, or run away but she did nothing but stand there as his eyes locked onto hers.
He had found out. A little spark of hope lit up the darkness. Just maybe her dreams would come true.
Cael stalked over to Marylou as a thousand different emotions flashed through his body and onto his face. He was scared but determined to do right by her and his child. He took the rag out of her hand and stared down into her eyes and soothed her fears as he proposed marriage and a thousand happy promises.
Cael’s parents were horrified when they discovered the reason why their only child had skipped work. The pureblood wizards looked down on their poor, low class halfblood daughter in law and tried to convince their son to not marry the girl. It would ruin his career and social standing. It was alright to keep the poor as mistresses if he were discreet about it but not as a wife. While it was 1980 they viewed society in the lens of a much stricter generation.
Despite threats of disownment and lack of inheritance Cael married Marylou and on a whim moved to England. He became a associate attorney at a wizarding law firm. It wasn’t the best job in the world but it was all that he knew. The newlyweds moved into a muggle apartment in London Married life did not suit Cael, who soon became suffocated from all the responsibility, especially when his parents cut of his supply of money.
Aureliane was born the day before Halloween, nearly three weeks early. Marylou was heavily pregnant and stayed home as her husband went to a party with his friends. It was ten o’clock when her water broke. Terrified, Marylou
Owled Cael asking him to come home, afraid that the baby was coming. Cael had ignored the letter, forgetting that it had arrived. By the time he came home his daughter was born and cleaned up. His absence only fueled the fire between Marylou and himself.
Cael was unsure how to raise a daughter. His parents had raised him through hired help and he had thought to do the same but he did not have the means. Instead he treated his mother in law as his parents had the nanny expecting her to take care of his daughter. He was in for a rude awakening. The life of the party was no longer Cael’s. His relationship with Marylou took a bad turn as she cared more for his child than she did for him. He became jealous of his baby. He was frustrated that his wife was no longer interested in spending her nights with him and he hated the crying. He struggled to love his daughter and often wished for a son or a life without a child. He wasn’t ready. Cael’s life became a boring routine of work and overtime to get away from the crying and the yelling at home.
Aureliane was oblivious to her parent’s struggles. She was a happy child and thought she was well loved. From a young age Aureliane was full of energy she was always getting into trouble by running into objects. It seemed that she needed little sleep. One of her closest child hood friends was a boy her age who lived several apartments down. Cyrus Vandailer was an interesting character that was able to keep up with Aure for the most part. For six years they were nearly inseparable.
Cael began to travel to France for work as Aureliane grew older. His initial feelings of resentment and jealousy vanished and he began to love his daughter. He was still rather distant from her as was his way but he loved his little girl and wanted the best for her. He began contacting his parents again. It was a hard road, patching up his relationship with them but he tried. Aureliane was five when she met them for the first time. The little girl was not afraid of them and charmed them with her sweet chatter and innocent energy. She was also a handful and not as displined as they would have liked.
Marylou had not liked it that Cael had taken Aureliane to France. She did not like his parents and tried to keep her daughter from their cool clutches. While her husband and daughter were away, Marylou uncovered a secret. Cael was having an emotional affair with a co worker. Unable to contain her curiosity she unlocked the pensive and watched her husband’s memories.
Marylou watched as her husband spilt his secret that he blamed his lot in life on his child, how he resented his daughter for runig his life. Marylou did not realize that the memory was when Aure had been a trying newborn. When her husband arrived back from France, Marylou was half crazed in anger. Talk of divorce began. Cael wanted custody of his daughter. He saw how much Aureliane was missing not being in France where he could give her more than what he could earn in England. His father was ill and was offering to allow Cael back into the family business and eventually take over, perhaps in the next year. He fought Marylou for main custody of their daughter. A long battle ensued but in the end Cael won. Aureliane didn’t understand why her parents were splitting. She was six and thought it was her fault. She was angry when her father took her to France leaving her mother behind in England. Thus began the moving portion of her life. Two weekends of every month was and every other non important school holiday, and half of the important breaks were spent with her mother in England. She spent the rest of her time in France with her paternal grandparents. The little girl wanted to be back home in England. While she understood the language, and could speak it fairly well due to her father teaching it to her she still struggled. English was her native tongue.
France was a life of rules. She had to practice the piano and study languages, art, basic spells and what seemed like a thousand other subjects. Aureliane had the best tutors and attended parties with other rich children. It was a privileged life. She liked the new toys and the pretty clothes but none of that replaced the love she felt in England. She could be free to do as she wished when she was in England. Her energy and creativity was not stifled. She could yell and dance about without fear of being too loud and unlady like.
Sometimes Aureliane wished she could just stay in England, but she also liked France. She was torn between her two lifestyles. She had privacy and luxury in France while in England she lived in a crowded one bedroom apartment with her mother’s younger sister and there was always work to be done.
When Aureliane was seven her relationship with her old best friend Cyrus became a bit strained. He was bitter at her for leaving and she at him for procuring a new best friend. They still played together but camaraderie they had shared for so long was different. Aure was changing from a tom boy into a girl who cared about her appearance. France had made her neat. His sharp tongue put them at odds for Aureliane would not allow herself to be called anything she disliked.
As Aureliane grew older she stopped hanging out so much with the boys and made friends with more girls. She was nine when the gender wars broke out in the complex between the kids. Once again Aureliane and Cyrus were arguing. The war had broken out among the children because Cyrus and his group of boys had climbed onto the roof of the complex and created a fort. Aureliane had thought the ideal of being able to see for miles exeriating and asked how to get up. Cyrus laughed telling her that she wasn’t allowed up because she was a girl and they were weak. Angry, Aureliane took an extra pudding cup from the stash of snacks, opened it and threw it at the boys. The chocolate pudding soared out of the container, landing on the boys. Yells, or gross and you’ll pay flew out but Aureliane just laughed and danced around below, taunting the boys.
After the boys were called down by their respective mothers, Aureliane climbed up onto the roof. It had been slow going because she did not know the easier way the boys used but instead shimmied up the support pole. When she made it up there she asked Ciarra, another little girl who lived in the complex to pass up the paint. Aure painted flowers and hearts over the tent the boys had created. She also collected their treasures. Aure had passed down the stole treasure to Ciarra when she heard a voice behind her. Aure spun around to see Cyrus behind her, his face dark red. A war of words and insults began. Aureliane glared at Cyrus as he accused her of being rotten. For every step he took forward she took to back. When he reached out to grab her, and the candy she still held in her hand, Aure wished that the bucket of paint would land on his head. Aure watched in amazed horror as the bucket of red paint rose off the ground and dumped it’s self over the boy’s head. She had preformed magic in front of a muggle! Cyrus jumped back when the cold paint landed on him. He looked all around but saw no one but Aure up on the roof. A huge smile broke out on his face. His friend/enemy was a witch!
“You’re a witch!”
“Amm.. not” She stumbled as she voiced her denial.
“It’s not a bad thing I’m a wizard.”
Aureliane laughed when Cyrus mentioned he was also magical. “My father is a pure blood.” She said with pride and a little arrogance.
A truce was called after they had discovered that each were magical. A new bond was forged between the two but they still fought at times.
The next summer Aureliane tried to convince Cyrus that Beauxabatons was better than Hogwarts and that was why she was going there. It was more cultured and refined. She left England a little disappointed that she wouldn’t be at the same school as Cyrus, if only just to best him at everything.
Aureliane turned eleven and was sent off to school. She was neither popular nor unpopular but had her own crowd in the middle. The fame of her family in France startled her a bit and it was unnerving to walk the same halls that her father had. She had to polish his school awards several times during detention. She was a smart girl but did not have the patience for sitting still in the classroom. Most of the subjects were dull, boring and far too slow for her liking. Still, her private tutors prepared her well for school and she managed to obtain average marks with little effort.
Aureliane was twelve when she first became interested in law. She was spending a week of Christmas vacation in France, when her grandparents threw their annual Christmas party. Aureliane had been assigned to sit at the big dinner table for the first time. Her dinner companion to her right was an elder gentleman who was a retired lawyer in international law. He entertained the child with stories of court cases and intrigue. The stories she heard of defending the poor and protecting people sparked an interest in Aure. She began to think about becoming a lawyer and came back to the ideal throughout the rest of her teen years.
Aure had grown tired of spending her summers in boring old England when most of her friends were having fun in France. She loved her mother but she was becoming to like France and what it offered more. When Aure was sixteen she began to stay outside more, hanging out with Ciarra and through her Cyrus. They became closer that summer but were still teasing each other and arguing. Many people had thought the friends were dating but each other denied the fact that they liked the other.
It was the summer before her finale year at school when Aureliane was tired of flirting with Cyrus with no result. She thought he liked her because of the way he looked at her and she knew she liked him. Unable to wait any longer she kissed him up on the roof as they watched the sun set. It was by no means her first kiss but it was the sweetest. Aure smiled, pleased with herself by Cyrus’ reaction and left the roof with a wave and a bit more sway to her walk. Just as her mother had years before Aureliane fell in love that summer. The whirlwind summer love was soon over and Aure and Cyrus came to a decision to end their relationship and become just friends. After all Aure had an off and on again boyfriend in France.
After graduation Aure trained under the best magical law professors money could buy. By the time she was twenty she was working for the French Ministry of Magic in international criminal Law. At twenty two she was assigned to a cross country smuggling case. Aure was slightly nervous as she walked into the London office of the Ministry of magic and up to the auror floor to meet the person who was holding one of her witnesses. Aure left the lift, her nose buried in the briefs she held in her hand when she heard a voice from her past call out her name. Aureliane glanced up to see a much more mature Cyrus Vandailer standing in front of her in the uniform of aurors. Aure smiled and greeted him, telling him about her new job assisting with the smuggling case.
Over the next six months Aureliane and Cyrus worked together on the case and developed their old friendship. She was still attracted to her old flame. Aureliane agreed to go out dancing with Cyrus and began to feel like a teenager again. The couple started dating, even when Aureliane went back to France.
Cyrus and Aureliane saw each other weekly as they traveled back and forth. It was a challenge but rather fun. Cyrus moved to France as he worked on a case for the British government there. It was during that time that their relationship took a serious turn. When Aureliane was twenty four Cyrus surprised Aureliane with an entire afternoon off for just them. They both agreed to not be on call that evening for any emergences (not that there were anything that serious), it would be just the two of them exploring Paris.
The couple strolled through the muggle part of the city, enjoying what the city of love had to offer. Aure convinced Cyrus to waltz with her at the base of the iffle tower to the music that was playing by a street performer. It was a romantic on the spot spontaneous event that made Aure feel alive. She spun out her eyes closed and spun in with her eyes open only to see Cyrus on one knee with a ring in his hand. A man of few words he, came right out and said it but the ever fast moving Aure wouldn’t even let him finish his speech before she embraced him with a kiss.
The wedding was a small affair in Turkey, to suit their adventurous taste.
Her career was still important to her but her life with Cyrus was a higher property for a while. The couple both worked hard a their respective jobs but they also worked on their marriage. There were some fights here and there but overall a good relationship.
On Sunday mornings Aure and Cyrus could be found sparring in their backyard to keep in shape, or hiking a rather dangerous mountain. Life was never boring with Cyrus.
Two and a half years passed when Aure left for England. The couple decided to move out of France after Aure applied for a position in the British criminal law department. She accepted just as Cyrus was being transferred back to England.
The couple had picked out a nice two bedroom home in wizarding London and were in the process of moving when Aure received an owl asking her to come into work a couple of months early due to a new eye witness in a case that was to be coming to trail soon. Aure agreed and went to England while Cyrus was in France to wrap up the selling of their apartment and to finish packing.
The preliminary trail was suppose to only take a few weeks and Aure would finish moving but there was a snag in the case. Someone had leaked their evidence out to the other side and the witness freaked. Aure went to speak with the witness in their home but the residence was empty. The disappearance of her key witness was a bad sign. Aure began an investigation with the help of a hit wizard. She followed up on a lead along with an assistant from her office. Marcus James was jealous of the French woman who had received the position he had wanted. It was he who had called in the false lead that brought Aureliane into the muggle countryside where she was ambushed by three wizards. He just wanted to scare her into going back to France. Perhaps use a bit of magical persuasion. But Aurelaine struggle trying to break away during the memory alteration charm. She'd managed to break out of the grasp of one of the men, when Marcus fired the spell. It hit her as she turned to run. Aureliane was knocked off balance and struck her head just after the memory spell hit her. She landed hard on the ground unmoving, blood sweeping into the grass, matting her curls. Marcus freaked out at the sight of blood pooling from the woman’s head. A dog barking and a shout from a man startled the attackers. Thinking she was dead, one of the hired men snatched the Aure's purse. He hadn't been paid for murder. They had already taken her wand. Marcus stared at the lovely french woman. She looked so young and weak lying there on the floor. He was shocked. He hadn't meant to kill her. Just make her stay in France. A dog barking startled him out of his shock. The three spun on their heels as a man called out after the dog. With a loud bang they were gone.
Aureliane was found by the old man who was excising his dog. Sparky had smelled the young woman and had run over to investigate. Startled Mr. Brown pulled out his magical device and called his wife to bring the ambulance. Him and his wife operated the local medical office in the small town of Whitesheild.
Aureliane woke up in a strange place of bright lights. She found herself in a small room with a bed across from her. She realized that she was in a strange, muggle hospital. She had no ideal how she got there.
Aure gently touched her head that was pounding. Thick bandages were wrapped around her head cocooning her in. She wondered what had happened. A knock on the door broke through Aure’s mangled thoughts.
An old woman stood in the doorway dressed in a muggle lab coat holding a clip board. Aure thought she must be the doctor.
“Does any thing hurt? I’m Doc brown.”
“No”
“what is you’re name?”
She hesitated for a moment. What was her name? Her head felt cloudy. A thick fog was making it hard for her to think. Her head also ached something fierce. What was the question...Oh her name.
“Aureliane D’abugine” she said in a rather thick French accent.”What happened?”
“You don’t remember? What year is it?” The lady asked as she walked closer, with an intense engery. She took out her flash light and began to examine Aureliane. She had feared that the young lady might have damaged her temporal lobe.
“What year is it?” She asked, wondering if the young lady had retrograde amnesia.
Aureliane frowned as she searched her memory for the date. “It’s 2002.”
The nurse frowned as her fears were confirmed.
“Actually it is 2008 darling. I’m afraid you’ve damaged you’re brain in the fall. Don’t worry it should come back. If you just tell me you’re telephone number and I’ll just call you’re parents.
“I don’t know it.”
2008? The last thing she could conscious remember was finishing her law studies.
Aureliane didn’t remember anything from the past six years except vague impressions that didn’t mean much. She knew she was a witch and that she was among muggles which was why she didn’t have a telephone number. The browns took in the Aureliane until the time that she regained her memory or strength enough to live on her own if she didn’t. It has been two months since Aure had her accident. She still doesn’t know who she is or why she was in the country. She is making a life for herself with the Browns, helping them as much as possible as she recovers.
She didn't know how she could get back to the magical world. Unless she was driven into London. So Aure stayed in the village. Until he found her.
Aure had been walking to the village to get a few things for the Doc. She was lost in her thoughts, trying to puzzle out who she was when she heard her name. At first, Aure thought she was imagining it. Then suddenly someone was rushing her and panic clogged her throat. A strange feeling of fear enveloped Aure as she was pulled into a hug and nearly a kiss.
The man's words rushed over her. He had been looking for her. Everywhere. Aure struggled in his grasp and she wished she had her wand.
The man let her go when he noticed her reaction. There had been something vaguely familiar about the man. But Aure didn't know his name. She was so confused. Should she know him? She thought she might but she couldn't be sure.
The man had asked if she was alright. Aure answered truthfully. She didn't know. She took a step back and asked who he was.
He laughed shakily and told her he was her husband. The ring. She had a gold ring on a thin chain around her neck. She hadn't seen it before. Or she hadn't recognized it.
Aure denied it. She didn't remember. She blurted out that she didn't remember anything for the last six years and he better explain himself or she would run away.
He told her his name and the world began to spin. Cyrus. Her childhood best friend. Her first real boyfriend that summer between sixth and seventh year. She'd married him? When? They'd broken up later that summer. She hadn't seen him since. She went back to France. She had stayed in France...Or that was what she remembered. She still didn't know how she had ended up in England. Her memories were a bundled mess. It was often hard to recall anything with any kind of specific detail.
After she had made him prove himself by telling her how they had become friends when they were little, they had talked. Aure had gone home with him. Back to her life. Except that Aure didn't remember any of it. Not really.
The next few months were difficult for Aure. She had bought a new wand, had taken a leave of absence from work and moved into a separate bedroom from her "husband".
Aure, also went to St. Mungos. A lot. She tried to figure out what was wrong with her brain. It was determined that she had been cursed. That her memory had been altered but it also had been improperly done. Too much had been erased. The charm used wasn't made to erase entire years. A few spells were tried to reverse the effects but nothing really helped. While her head wound had healed, her mind had not. She was blank. Except for the law. She still had that.
Eventually, Aureliane went back to work. She loved her work. It was what kept her sane. Despite all that was happening she still knew the law. She had forgotten some things of course, but the basics were there. Aure had to prove that she knew what she was doing again, but eventually she got her job back.If only her personal life would be so easy.
Aure wasn't sure that she loved Cyrus Vandalier. She only remembered him as the cocky youth who tasted like adventure. He knew things she didn't. He remembered a different her. For Aure had changed. She didn't remember the things that had shaped her in the woman she was. Slowly, they've been trying to forge a relationship but it has been difficult. She had been missing for six months and six years had been wiped.
