Physical Description:
Ellie Devlin is an eleven-year-old, so her looks are still simple, underdeveloped, and continuing to change. Her skin is paler than most humans' skin can get, sporting a shade that could be described as albino, if not paler. Her pale skin is only marred by a few light brown freckles found sprinkled across her cheeks and nose. Her face is slightly rounded, though close examination might reveal the starting formation of sharp, angular features. Her smile, which isn't notably rare, shows off two fangs, which can be easily disconcerting to those who see them.

Her pallor is accented by the contrast of her dark hair, which lies in a slightly waved curtain down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. The colour is dubbed as undoubtedly black in the eyes of others, in comparison to the dark brown many others have, since the sunlight - which Ellie tends to avoid - is the only thing that brings out the barely-noticeable brown tint to her hair.

Ellie can often be seen outdoors whenever the weather doesn't involve sunlight, and when it does, she is occasionally seen in the shade of various trees. Her clothes often consist of dark colours and hand-sewn quirks that her grandmother has. Her clothes are rarely ever new, often just handmade or old and worn. The dark colours tend to hide wear-and-tear from a distance, which is another reason she prefers such. Ellie has never been a very restrained child, preferring to go exploring the woods in the middle of the night, or chasing after an interesting animal to find its home. Thus, her clothes are basically never showy or trendy, just comfortable and familiar. Her uniforms remain in tact and in top condition, though, since she takes pride in being a Hogwarts student.

The Slytherin girl occasionally takes up knitting herself, when she has the patience, so she'll come up with quirky and/or personally designed items.

Personality Description:
Ellie grew up without any other children in her life, which is why she was so excited to come to Hogwarts. Ellie's childhood made her more shy than she ever wanted to be. Nevertheless, finding out that it was something she could not instantly get over made Ellie all the more determined to make friends. This is just one example of how ambitious and determined Ellie has always been.

Ellie, despite being such a sheltered child, developed self-confidence at a young age. She is unafraid to be who she is: a half-vampire witch who can sick her vampire father on whoever messes with her... Admittedly, the latter part is not exactly true, but that is a highlight of another of her particular skills: she is an accomplished liar. She can lie just enough to get her desired message across, but not exaggerating to the point where her story becomes unbelievable. Ellie doesn't use this skill too often, though.

Ellie handles adults very well, but it's the other kids she's often wary of.

If anyone approaches her (which is awfully rare!), Ellie is very eager to see if they are friend material. She will act friendly and kindly to anyone who treats her in the same manner, and isn't afraid to snap at anyone who isn't at least courteous or respectful. Ellie, as mentioned, has a lot of self-confidence, so she isn't one to hesitate to speak up when she feels very strongly about something. But it'd have to be pretty important, like someone being bullied, to get her to speak up. In classes, she's not much of a volunteer to answer questions. If she ever speaks, it's because the teacher is picking on her or they are forced into a partner project. Ellie is definitely not a fan of working with others in classes, because she is not used to relying on anyone but herself when it comes to her studies. Plus, her partners tend to be noticeably uncomfortable with her, making her equally as uncomfortable.

Thus, unless they talk to her outside of class, other students tend to think she is a bit of an outcast. She doesn't mind it too terribly, because she realises that it's her own fault for not trying harder. Still, Ellie finds comfort in the fact that she can roam the castle and grounds instead of being confined to her grandparents' house. That outweighs all the downsides of being at school.

Like most young children, she has a natural-born curiosity for things she doesn't know a lot about. She pays attention in classes for this reason, and because she spent most of her life in a similar setting: sitting around her house, reading up on often mundane subjects, giving her a rather large knowledge base. She reads a lot to satisfy curiosity on some things, and she does experiment on her own time just to pass the time. Occasionally, Ellie's curiosity will get her into trouble because an experiment has gone wrong, or some other terrible outcome. She will also likely get attracted to the Forbidden Forest at some point, due to growing up around a similarly mysterious forest.

One of her most notable traits is her cunning. Ellie will, if at all possible, do whatever it takes to reach her goals. The only thing she would not do is betray her family and friends, though she doesn't have much of the latter.

History:
Lillia Emmeline "Ellie" Devlin was born on 28th May 1998, following the conclusion of the Second Wizarding War. Her mother, Clarissa, chose to leave Ellie with Ellie's grandparents; meanwhile, the eighteen-year-old witch fled from the horrific reality of having a half-vampire child. Ellie's grandparents were equally as horrified, but more so about their daughter's choice of having relations with a vampire than the end result.

-----

Clarissa Devlin (b. 19 January 1980) grew up in Northern Ireland as a witch from a well-established family. Her mother was a Muggleborn witch and her father, a half-blood wizard. She was always quite talented during her school years, although not notably so. She was sorted into Hufflepuff after nearly becoming a hatstall, and did as much as she could to enjoy her school years. Clarissa found that she had a knack for Care of Magical Creatures, and was drawn to learning about any of the rare or controversial creatures (e.g. golden snidgets and werewolves).

In short, she went travelling right after her graduation from Hogwarts, searching for what she wanted to do with her life. The travelling was also in part because she wanted to get away from the growing war-centric atmosphere that had surrounded most of Europe due to Lord Voldemort's presence. Clarissa's time was spent exploring more remote areas of the world, occasionally coming in contact with renowned witches and wizards. On her journey during mid-1997, she came across a newly-turned vampire who was struggling with the reality of his new situation. Always finding compassion to aid others, Clarissa hoped to help him adjust to his new life. His lack of memories seemed to bother him most, and although she helped him search for information from his previous life, it wasn't long before he gave up on such a desire. At some point along the way, Clarissa had developed a spontaneous, fleeting love for the vampire, who called himself Emerson.

Clarissa returned to wizarding war-torn England just two months later, being checked into St. Mungo's Hospital with bitter feelings and resentment for the small bump on her stomach. If she didn't care so much about the morals she had set to live for her life, she would have gotten rid of the bump sooner, but she couldn't find the strength to end the unborn halfbreed life. Bearing a vampire's child put Clarissa under strict watch by the maternity Healers, for the development of the half-vampire required strict avoidance of certain substances (i.e. garlic and sunlight), and the ingestion of others (i.e. blood). Her parents were never let in on the fact that she was bearing a vampire's child until she actually had the child, which was clearly not completely human for her two sharp fangs were ready and able to pierce the hand of her grandfather when he first held her.

-----

Ellie had an interesting childhood with her grandparents Marius and Nina Devlin, whom she would describe as both terrific and terrifying.

While both grandparents were fond of her, they were equally as worried for her. As a halfbreed, Ellie knew she was different from everyone else around her. If drinking blood, having fangs, and her abnormally pale skin didn't tip her off to her abnormality, her grandparents' constant desire to keep her locked up certainly did. She saw many other children playing around the neighbourhood their large house was located on, but was told not to interact with them. Her grandparents feared that her fangs and pale skin would be too easy of a giveaway to her heritage.

Ellie knew that her grandparents were trying to protect her, but she felt that staying indoors all day was far too restricting. She would wait until they were asleep, and sneak out during all hours of the night. In all honesty, she felt completely in her element romping about the forests at night, occasionally falling from trees that she had climbed only to find herself safe on the ground twenty feet below. Other times, she spent her time indoors reading up on various subjects, but Ellie was still never able to read what she truly desired to know about. The house she shared with her grandparents was completely devoid of any information of halfbreeds, vampires, or any related material. It was mainly because her grandparents didn't want her to feel forced into the dark stereotype such creatures possess.

The only interesting thing she ever found out was little snitches of information on her mother, who occasionally sent Marius and Nina updates on her whereabouts. After nicking a few of these letters and reading through some, Ellie became aware of something she had never thought about before: her mother wanted to forget that she had ever had her, and would never want anything to do with her. It was never expressly stated in the letters, but Ellie had enough intelligence to pick up on the fact.

Ellie barely batted an eyelash at this news, though. She had her grandparents, and she considered them more than enough. She pushed any and all thoughts of Clarissa Devlin into her mind's bin of unimportant subjects.

The Hogwarts acceptance letter came as a relief to all three Devlins in the house. Marius and Nina had feared that her lack of displayed magical ability thus far (well, they hadn't been aware of the magic she'd displayed at night in the woods..) would mean she would have to be homeschooled or be subject to a life of living in fear. Ellie was just glad to be getting a chance to leave the house and have more exposure to the magical community, which she took advantage of whilst roaming the interesting streets of Diagon Alley. It all seemed a bit overwhelming to the young, sheltered girl; nevertheless, it was a welcome experience that she embraced with open arms.

During her time at Hogwarts, Ellie has done quite a deal of research into vampires now that she has access to such material, and been trying to determine whether or not she is destined to be an "evil" creature, as some vampires are described, or if her half-human part can prevent that. She has also been enjoying her experiences being away from home, and is rather fond of school in general.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:
Ellie Devlin's ambition is endless, since she tends to set goals for herself which require a mixture of determination and cunning. Slytherin is reputed as being a house for witches and wizards with a desire to succeed in life, and Ellie's traits definitely prove such a desire.

Writing Sample:
Ellie braced herself for the side-along apparation, and her grandfather placed his hand on her shoulder as her eyes screwed shut. It was over within seconds; suddenly, Diagon Alley assaulted Ellie's awareness as she opened her eyes.

The eleven-year-old smiled widely at the cobblestone street before them, caring not for the fact that her fangs would be on full display. There were wizards and witches talking and walking, having a laugh or just smiling at things in store windows. Ellie saw older kids, younger kids, and kids that looked her own age wandering around happily. It was her first time out of her grandparents' house in years, and she was actually in such a place as Diagon Alley! She was undeniably excited, if the expression on her face was anything of an indication.

Things were floating around without any sort of rope, like the signs in front of some of the shops. Shouts of “Quidditch," "Hogwarts" and "magic" were music to her ears. Ellie would be off to the infamous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry very soon, and she knew it'd be a welcome change from being at home 24/7 with her overprotective grandparents. All she was here for was to get her wand from Ollivander's, since her other school supplies had been delivered through mail-order last week. Everything was packed neatly in her trunk at the foot of her bed, waiting until 1st September when she'd push them on the scarlet steam engine she had heard about.

Her grandfather led the way to Ollivander's, and Ellie was hot on his heels. Right outside the window, they paused and she looked up at her grandfather, thankful the skies were overcast and none too bright.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine on my own!" she insisted, as her grandfather handed her a pouch of ten galleons, though she likely wouldn't use them all. After seeing her grandparents wave wands around the house, acting as if it were second nature to them, Ellie had been envious of their magical abilities. Since she had never shown very obvious signs of magical ability before (her displays had always been small and hardly noticeable), the Hogwarts letter had definitely been a shock. For Ellie, it had been the best thing that had ever happened to her. It meant she would learn to do magic, just like other witches and wizards. Ellie waved to her grandfather as he headed for the Apothecary down the street, where she was to meet him after getting the wand.

Once he was out of sight, and Ellie had taken note of the Apothecary's exact location, Ellie entered Ollivander's wand shop. She was surprised by how rundown and dingy the little place was, trying not to let the disappointment show on her face. She took a few steps inside, and couldn't help but cough a bit at the lingering dust in the air. Hiding her disappointment wasn't necessary, apparently. The shop appeared to be devoid of life, albeit overflowing with bookcases for some reason.

“Hello?” she called out, stepping up to the counter. Ellie could just barely see over the counter to the many rows of wands, and she knew her mouth practically fell open at the number of wands there were. "Woh!" she whispered in awe, trying to see the end of the shelves, but they looked quite lengthy.

Unsure of where the wandmaker had gone off to, Ellie took a seat on one of the lone rickety chairs by the wall. Her eyes continued to examine the shop in greater detail, taking note of the flower pot on the counter, and the display case's lack of a wand on display. She started swinging her feet a bit impatiently, wondering if Mr. Ollivander was in some sort of back room. Just as she was about to shout out for him again, she heard the tinkling of a bell meaning the door to the shop had opened. Ellie turned her head to see who was coming through the door, standing up as she did so.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Lillia Emmeline "Ellie" Devlin is a half-vampire first year with a strong disposition for being the odd one out.  During her time at Hogwarts, this Slytherin has been working on her rather shaky social skills, and reading up (on magical creatures, in particular). She is not the best at making friends, but quite accomplished at making people wonder about the "strange, pale girl." With a determination to change, Ellie made it her 2010 New Year's resolution to break out of her bubble by gaining more friends.

Lillia Emmeline Devlin: Half-Vampire Supplementary Form

Character Name: Lillia Emmeline Devlin

URL Link to Biography: http://absitomen.com/index.php?topic=13876.0

Type of Creature: Half-Vampire

Are they registered with the Ministry of Magic?: Yes. Upon her birth, Lillia was registered as a half-vampire by the Ministry of Magic, and is kept under watch to assure that she does not turn to her vampire relatives. Her behaviour is monitored to assure that she shows no signs of going bad, since she does have the ability to drain people of their blood if given the opportunity.

How did they become a creature? Born this way! Her father, a vampire, had relations with her mother, a witch.

The mother of Lillia was put under strict watch by the maternity Healers at St. Mungo's Hospital. The development of half-vampires required strict avoidance of certain substances (i.e. garlic and sunlight), and the occasional "ingestion" of blood-replenishing potions. The child feeds off the mothers' blood, though never draining the mother since they require so much less blood than full vampires; thus, the mother is in need of blood replenishing potions from time to time. When she was born, her two sharp fangs were already prominent and usable.

Are they considered a 'Dark' Creature?: No

If yes, are they currently under pursuit by the Ministry of Magic?: No

What crimes have they committed?  Were they convicted? Nope
