[Jan. 14 - ]Curiousity killed the cat... or did it. on March 05, 2013, 10:16:38 AM Sky had been thinking about something for the last few days. She was a little curious about who exactly her grandfather was. She knew that her parents wouldn't know anything about her grandfather because she'd asked when she was 13. Then she got a really good idea, she remembered that she and her brother had received a letter from Durmstrang when they turned 11. So with a glance across the common room at her brother she began to write a letter. To Whom It May Concern,My name is Sky O'Connor and I have a question. My biological family had ties to a man named Gavin Moriarty. I need more information about him, about what he was like, what he did... etc. I hope whoever received this letter will let me know what I wish to know.SkyShe left the common room and headed to the owlery and randomly picked an owl and sent the letter off to Durmstrang. She just hoped that someone would answer the letter. Skip to next post Re: [Jan. 14]Curiousity killed the cat... or did it. Reply #1 on March 05, 2013, 05:53:42 PM On receiving the letter from Sky at Durmstrang, it was passed from one person to another until Wolfgang received word of it, scrutinising the writing and the demand. Gavin Moriarty was the grandson of the great Luther Moriarty, who had married one of the Storm women several generations back, and he had been mixed up in the dark times of Voldemort as far as Wolfgang could remember. Why a girl from Hogwarts wanted to find his name, he wasn't sure. On the 19th January, a large, vicious-looking owl delivers this at breakfast to the Gryffindor table, the paper has the official Durmstrang header and is sealed.Wolfgang StormBoard of GovernorsDurmstrang Institute...Miss S O'ConnorHogwarts School of Witchcraft & WizardryHogsmeadeUnited Kingdom18th January 2010Dear Miss O'Connor,On behalf of the Board of Governors at Durmstrang Institute I have been asked to address your 'letter' dated January 14th regarding Mr Gavin Moriarty. Mr Moriarty is not a member of staff nor student here, though he was known to some of our number by kin. He is, regrettably, deceased, though his descendants are still alive. We are not at liberty to give further detail from records. We suggest you contact your national Ministry, as the Moriarty family has extended there. Yours sincerely, W. Reply #2 on March 07, 2013, 10:52:56 PM Sky was slightly disappointed when she received the letter back from a Durmstrang official. She didn't read it in the Great Hall, as she didn't want anyone knowing who she was writing, so she waited until the library was mostly empty closer to lunchtime to read it. She didn't know what to do next, then as she moved the paper from her hand to the desk beside her, the card that was attached to the back, slipped off and that was when she noticed it. Taking advantage of the new information, she took initiative, and wrote a reply back.Thank you for writing back, I wasn't sure if anyone would. I know you don't know me, but I'm really curious about this man, Gavin Moriarty. Anything you can tell me about him would be great. Thanks again.SkyAfter writing the new recipient on the outside, she rolled the parchment and tied it tightly with a black ribbon she'd found and half an hour later was watching the owl fly off from the owlery with her letter in it's claws. Maybe she'd get some answers now. Skip to next post Re: [Jan. 14]Curiousity killed the cat... or did it. Reply #3 on March 13, 2013, 07:31:29 PM Wolfgang was not overly surprised to see another letter from Sky waiting for him when he arrived at work on Wednesday 20th January. It had been delivered late the night before. He had his suspicions over the claim, there had been a release of letters that had been held, he had heard word not long ago, unworthy descendants having come of age. I can tell you much of Moriarty, though I must first confirm your interest in the man. How exactly do you believe you are related to him? I am also a blood relative, and due my position, I have access to Moriarty's will to confirm your claim. In later years our paths crossed less frequently due to his alliances in Britain and my duties in Europe, but I do have many memories. I have already confirmed your name with my contacts at Hogwarts, should you seek to deceive me in your response.Yours sincerely, W. He claimed that he was my grandfather and then proceeded to describe the torture he put my parents through before killing them. Then he said that he tried to kill me as well by leaving me in a demolished house in the cold. I want to know more about this man, I want to know about my mother, and if possible... my father.Sincerely,Sky O'Connor 1. As she watched the owl fly away she thought for a brief moment that she may have made a mistake in asking all these questions, but she shook it off and headed back to the castle to get some breakfast. Reply #5 on March 19, 2013, 05:49:22 PM Sky's letter describing her receipt of a letter from Gavin Moriarty earlier in the term arrived mid Thursday morning on the 21st. Wolfgang eventually read it at home late that night, and found it hard to form a reply immediately. The girl, to his understanding was in the last year at Hogwarts, but wasn't a champion in the Tetra-Wizard. She had a brother, according to Ignan, who he had asked, claiming one of the staff had mentioned an O'Connor girl. "Why, what has she done?" Was Ignan's reaction, which indicated the girl might not be a high flier. Hardly a surprise if your start in life was as described...It wasn't until late night on Friday 22nd, after two glasses of red wine that Wolfgang drafted a letter, then another version on the Saturday morning, unsatisfied with the previous attempt. His wife Camille watched him furrow his brow in thought and sigh, but on approaching her husband it was clear he was not keen to explain who he was writing to. Certainly, Wolfgang was not sure exactly why he was appeasing the girl, perhaps other than his own curiosity over that side of the family in Britain. It wasn't clear if the girl had made any assumptions over his family name to that of her Professor. Wolfgang doubted if Ignan could even remember their second cousin from childhood, but the Hogwarts Professor was a couple of years older than him, of similar age to Moriarty. He didn't send the letter until the morning of Monday 25th, meaning it did not arrive in Hogwarts morning post until Tuesday 26th - several days anxious waiting for the girl.Wolfgang StormSenior Account ManagerChrysopoeiaFrankfurt...Miss S O'ConnorHogwarts School of Witchcraft & WizardryHogsmeadeUnited Kingdom23rd January 2010Dear Miss O'Connor,Thank you for confirming your claim, however unfortunate the circumstances. This is what I know from memory. Gavin Moriarty, your grandfather, was my second cousin. He was born in the early 1940s, attended Hogwarts. He used to visit extended family and friends of our family who were attending Durmstrang in the summer months, which was when I was introduced to him. I thought he would have done better at Durmstrang, as did many of our numher here. Instead, Slytherin house did what they could to mould what I recall to be a sharp mind. He married a pureblood witch, I believe the name was Cara, they may have been betrothed, that line of the family followed the custom. From what I can recall of the will, children, older boys, a younger daughter. Both wife and daughter were deceased at the time of the reading, so I can only assume the daughter could be the mother you seek. As to the circumstances of her death, I cannot comment without examining the letter you cite. Perhaps the man was insane towards the end of his life - I certainly had no contact with him in his later years. If you reach Gringotts, you may be able to ask them for a copy of the will from their records, which may allude to family names. If you have trouble with them, send an owl to this address.Yours sincerely, W. StormChrysopoeia Skip to next post
