Who is the Dreadful One Really?

The letter seems to be rushed, a messy handwriting scribbled onto ministry of magic parchment.

Professor Storm,

I write to you concerning my son Noah Pratt and his dreadful mark in your class. I am aware that my son occasionally struggles to remain completely focused during dull activities but that hardly means he is deserving of a D in Defence Against the Dark Arts. He is the son of an auror and an intelligent boy but simply requires some extra support in remaining focused. Perhaps you should consider making your lessons interesting before writing off an eleven year old boy quite so quickly.

I am fairly disgusted with the mark you have laden him with. I did not send my son to Hogwarts for him to fail without being given an adequate amount of help and decent teaching.

Sort it out.

2nd January, 2010

Dear Mr Pratt,

Thank you for your letter received by the school during my annual leave, regarding your son, Noah Pratt, and his lacklustre performance in the end of term examinations.

Although I do not doubt your experience in Defence Against the Dark Arts, though my sources tell me your performance as an auror is namesake to your surname, I do doubt your insight into your son's attention span.

No matter, since you assure me your son is intelligent, I will simply ask him on return in January why he felt unwilling to make use of this family trait, which you demonstrate so willingly by writing to criticise lessons you have not witnessed.

Please be reassured that the December examinations do not count towards the summer examinations which determine progression into the second year. I trust you will not let him fail, and I give you my promise that if Noah is as gifted as his father believes, he too shall succeed adequately.

I look forward to speaking with Noah about your letter.

Sincerely,
