Physical Description:
Finn is that boy that encapsulates the appeal and idea of never ending youth. In fact, if people were to place a bet, they'd assume as he aged he'd still manage to look young than his actual age at the time. There's a certain whimsicality and jovial mischievousness that pours out of him, from his crooked toothy grins and sly eyes, it is almost unbearable and impossible not to notice. However in the construction of his face alone one will see nothing but regality and a harshness attributed to a long line of Vipond offspring. His cheeks could cut glass, to put it blankly, and the fact that he's rather on the slim side makes these protrude in an almost garish manner. His chin is deeply chiseled and his brow ridge quite pronounced. In his keeping he has extremely thick eyebrows and yet they are well manicured, as one would expect from the sleek and squeaky clean purebloods -- too bad that's the only thing squeaky clean about him. His icy-platinum blonde hair is always choppy and disheveled looking and when he's not wandering around in a Hogwart's uniform he's wearing something that looks a little grungy and wrinkled. Oh how his parent's would throw a fit. In terms of his body, he's scrawny, thin and lean, where it's apparent he's masculine, in general, the overall slenderness for most gives off an almost feminine look, which is in no way how he'd like to be perceived. His eyes are a piercing ice blue that are identical to his mother's and his skin is almost sickeningly pale, not in a disturbing really, but purely on the basis that if he were to spend a week out in the sun he'd return indoors without a change in his complexion.
Personality Description:
Finn Eros Vipond is that boy that you absolutely love to hate...or just hate in general really. In all honest, Finn lacks any significant social skills -- he's awkward to converse with, he doesn't care to be all that pleasant just for the sake of being pleasant...ever and he tends to talk in whimsical, witty, quite delusional and dizzying circles that only frustrate those around him. The worst part? He does it on purpose. Ingrained into the very essence of this boy is the belief that no one is really good enough for him. Yes...he kind of hates most other people. This is in part due to the fact that he tends to pick out peoples flaws, everyone has them sure, but if they're obvious all the more reason to call one on it and formally start a disassociation and if one's flaws are unapparent well Finn is awfully good at looking for them and if can't find them...then he'll invent them purely for the sack of having an excuse to be mean all the time. Sickly enough Finn seems to..well do it for enjoyment. There are no warm gooey, affectionate moments with people he's decided to pick on and he can exercise his wit on a continual basis with verbal sparing...he rarely takes to physical fighting though, it's for the common people. Plus there's no need to mangle his desirable and precious face now is there? (AND he's quite delicate and likely to lose, in which case injuring his pride as well is NOT an option). On a deeper level however he just doesn't really care. He's very self sufficient and his prickly independence allows for him to wander the world, and Hogwarts, like a stray cat. Picking up the fun and adventure where he pleases, but dropping it off whenever he's had enough -- no strings attached. He can avoid friendships, for the most part, and this is because he's deeply afraid, knowing that once he's bound to be there for someone -- for friendships sake, others will have expectations of him, and he ultimately feels like he'd be a failure, which drives him to push everything away.
On a more pleasant note, this boy Finn has an inner child, Peter Pan complex, that will never die. He's got a quirk to him, despite how dry it is, and if you can manage to tag along, Finn here, is likely to take you on the ride of your life. No boundaries, no limitations, he's reckless and dangerous at times but just oh so fun. He has no concepts of consequences and it can often get him in a bind and into a lot of trouble, but again, he doesn't think about consequences because he's not afraid of getting in trouble. He thinks before he acts well enough, just maybe not to the full extent that he should. And while Finn can be that boy who declares to hate the world, to those who catch his interest or god forbid, are witty enough and tough enough to handle him he'll actually associate himself with. YES, he does have some friends, no matter how hard he tries not to admit it. In truth, Finn has all the makings to be that hidden hero, a true romantic but he just chooses not to develop that side of himself fully, it's there and those who can get close enough will glimpse it. He really has no ambition though, it's his interest for self-education and knowledge of his own interests that create his intelligence and nothing else really. He's quite cheeky and one benefit to Finn is that he's not stubborn at all, when he's done yelling at you or hitting you, he'll likely pull up a stool beside you and calmly converse, or continue to insult you...just in a kind of more pleasant way. He's easily amused, and probably at all the wrong things, but that means that it's even harder to tick him off, which most find quite confusing because he talks as if he's always in a mood.
History:
The Vipond Family has a long line of English and Scandinavian decent, only the last four generations actually settled in England. Regardless of their relative "newness" to English society there is no dispute that the Vipond family comes from a long line of wealthy, arrogant and dangerously dark purebloods. Men of the family have traditionally always been heads in the Ministry (albeit mostly foreign ministries), successful entrepreneurs in there own right and of course living off the spoils of their ancestors. There were always strict and continual expectations on the family, especially the male heirs, and these traditions were continually passed on through the bloodline. It's safe to say that when Artorius Vipond and Elyse Faust-Vipond were married and starting there family, that they expected their children to follow in these long kept traditions. Despite their desire to have a large family, Artorius and Elyse were bound to the misfortune, as they claim, of having only one child and Elyse can never quite utter enough how thankful she was it was a boy, that there child was a boy named Finn Eros Vipond. It became apparent that early on that it was his parent's only goal in life to ingrain in him all of their values, to make sure he knew and respect them. And it was this effort, this mission, that would ultimately work to tear the family apart at the seams.
Right from the get go Artorius Vipond took it upon himself to teach Finn the values of their family. After all, he had a legacy to pass on to his son, from father to son it had gone through every generation and in his eyes it was not about to stop there. However right from the get go it was also apparent that Finn would be resistant every step of the way. His father was stoic and stern and at a young age, surprisingly, Finn had been emotionally fragile and would run in tears to his mother when Artorius came down on him. However, Elyse Vipond was not the nurturing kind; to a degree it was innate but she had also come from tradition and she would not let her son be weak and insignificant, if his will and his respectability were crushed it would be easy for Finn to fall into a muggle loving way and that in no way was in his parents plans. And so she did little to comfort or protect him, which would be the stem of his future resentment of his mother and other women in general. Finn had spent the majority of his childhood alone, he never had true friends and initially made his resistance the quiet kind, he would listen to his parents but he wouldn't truly care. In the earlier years of his life, books and the few toys he was given were his sufficient escape.
Of course, there were a number of times, as his Hogwarts age grew nearer, where Finn was exposed to the elite gatherings and parties and it was at this time he would meet other children, just like him, that were safe enough for him to associate with. However, it had become evident to Finn at such a tender age still, that these children, for the most part, were replicas of there parents, in behavior and belief and it made him resent them unconsciously too -- he refused to make friends. When his Hogwarts letter came, Finn was for the first time in his life truly ecstatic, and logically enough this first bout of freedom from his parent's grasps was enough to create the true rebellion inside of Finn. Upon arrival at Hogwarts, Finn in a not so surprising fashion was sorted into Slytherin. He was expected to fit in and he did not, he was expected to excel at school and he did not -- all in all he was becoming a failure. A failure with mean words, and ill-spirited pranks and a nonchalant manner that repelled people. Apparently word had spread from classmate to parent, and parent to his parents so that his first summer home had been a nightmare. And this had become a cycle, he would go to school and progressively become less and less in his parents eyes, and during the summer he would flirt with muggleborns in diagon alley with his parents present and ignore them completely when they were alone to only further push their buttons.
It was in Finn's third year when he had the pleasure of meeting a boy named Jethro Delaney. This boy would later become his best friend, and close to only friend in actuality. Where Finn's mischievous, pranking side was the only innocent and good-natured part of him that was self evident, Jethro was the type of boy that threw ill-intended pranks for the hell of it, and in this sense Jethro was a corrupting force in Finn's life and it is safe to say the effect was mutual. Finn and Jethro had the kind of relationship that functioned almost exclusively on butting heads with one another and yet there was force that continually drew them to reconcile and remain each others confidants and protectors. In all honesty, Finn hated everyone Jethro bestowed his kindness on, which was a sight rare enough on its own, and for Jethro...well there really wasn't anyone in Finn's life up to that point for him to despise, except for Finn himself at times. Regardless the two were traversing together, at the times they saw fit, and were constantly seen as two boys that no one ever really wanted to cross paths with, on the basis that they were simply no good.
Now heading into his fifth year, it's safe to say Finn's relationship with his parent's is quickly deteriorating. However, unlike many other pureblood families, they refuse to disown him. After all, he is there ONLY son, and child and therefore they have no other choice but to "fix him", which in his own opinion is much worse than being disowned. And yet he's still living his life the way he pleases, heading into parts of the city and the wizarding community that his parents never dreamed he'd participate in. He's on a path, and unless it gets corrected, it'll be quite the destructive one...
How Do You Fit Into Your House?:
Honestly, he was almost not made a Slytherin. He lacks ambition and any desire to achieve the kind of success that is traditional to the Slytherin house. However, there was something a little dark about him, his innate desire for intelligence was enough to be used as a tool in his life to get him further, which was recognizable. Plus his entire demeanor, his cunning and his mean-spirited trickery would have been absolutely volatile in any of the other houses. Plus, for the sake of his family heritage it was the best suited option. He's got that sly nature to him, he doesn't easily let himself get fooled by others and in turn does everything in his power to pull the wool over their eyes. And in his own personal opinion, if he was going into any house at all, he wanted to be with the meanest, toughest and the darkest of them all, for it would be much more entertaining and respectable than any other.
Writing Sample:
Christmas had always held some lukewarm merriment for Finn, even if he overall held a very disdained interest in the holiday as a whole. Case in point, he was currently enjoying the "merriment" that his house commons had to offer. Honestly? If it weren't for his internal glee at the prospects to come it would be utterly miserable in there. Two girls showing of their ridiculously expensive robes, with mere arrogant smirks and a boy with the most expensive broom was showing it off to his mildly impressed group of acquaintances. Christmas meant nothing to a pureblood. They got treasures and presents and privileges all year around so what was Christmas to them? Adorning expensive gifts over increasingly plastic-y people was where Finn's general disdain arose -- albeit those of less fortune who's Christmas days entailed making a hundred cards, cookies and squealing all the while caused him a great deal more annoyance and in turn utter misery.
Yet, as he sat in his favorite plush and velvet armchair near the fire, he couldn't help but indeed, feel a bit of mirth. The minuscule favors bestowed upon him by staff at Hogwarts, who after every incident of Finn's careless and ill-intended stunts would give him the "because it's the holidays..." speech and forgo consequence was always something that pleased him, in fact, anything that got him off from hospital wing clean up duty from misbehaving gave him considerable pleasure. Not the point, in fact after about the third revealing of the Star...something other thousand broom he rolled his crystalline blue eyes in boredom, followed with a twinge of contempt. His parent's never bothered to send him anything this year, well they never did ever. The last gift Finn had received was in his second year from his mother dearest, it happened to be be a framed chart of the family tree. A painful reminder of his apparent place as their protege. Finn and Jethro had thoroughly enjoyed watching it burn actually. Well, Finn had and Jethro probably just enjoyed watching any rich pureblood thing parish.
No, his boredom, accompanied with his annoyance, arose from the mere repetitive and ungratefulness of it all. How could one really be smug when they were getting gifts exactly like everyone else was? It was sheer idiocy....just like Jethro's rather dull response.
"Yes, well you would hate seeing things you'd never have, wouldn't you?" He responded, a low blowing jab at Jethro's painfully obvious class status that was a definite argument starter. Finn was aware of this point but like all other times, didn't much fear the outcome. In fact he had no time to, for all that was audible following that was an irrepressible snort, and a rather snarly grin flashed across at Jethro. "Bollocks. You love this."
Who wouldn't? As he watched his peers looking a little creepier and a lot uglier on the outside. It was fitting really...all in the spirit of Christmas, yes?
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Finn is a boy who's purely a child at heart...but that of a mean one. He's rash and uninterested, in most people and things, he's contemptuous and underwhelming in his attempts to fit in and succeed in Hogwart's set academic standards. Finn is an intelligent young man, which becomes apparent when he's using his wit to tear someone down, this is because he likes to learn about things of his own interests, and most of the Hogwarts curriculum does not fall into this category. Regardless he's often manipulative, when he's not in the mood to pointedly ignore or verbally spar you he may lay on his charm, accompanied with his "oh so charming looks" he'll be quick to use you and leave you if he deems it fit. And yes, he's quite vain if one hadn't noticed up to this point. He can be very awkward, painfully so and often it's purposefully, and he's quite a trouble maker, with absolutely no sense for consequences, he'll take you on a ride if you'll let him -- those it's possibly one you never wanted to be on in the first place. He's whimsical and flighty and really feels as he needs absolutely no one, which is the biggest lie he's ever told himself.
