Standing in the line of first years, Chris made sure to stand by his twin sister the whole time. Considering the fact that they knew no one there, he wanted to make sure that his sister remained safe. Even at such a young age, he was protective of Nicole. Since they grew up with magic, they already knew some things about the four different houses.
"Chris, I don't want to be in Slytherin!" Nicole exclaimed to him, as their fellow peers were called up one by one.
"I don't blame you. They can be scary," he responded back, taking a quick glance at the Slytherin table. They did look a little mean ... and scary, indeed.
"Oh, I hope we're in the same house ..." she added to him.
Chris nodded to what Nicole told him. That would be nice. Who knew if it would happen or not. "Maybe ... Maybe. We'll have to see," he responded back to her.
Truth be told, he wasn't really nervous about the whole sorting phenomena. After all, it was only a part of the big picture of his time in Hogwarts. As long as his house wasn't Slytherin, he was sure that he would be fine with what house was chosen for him.
It seemed as if time sped by so fast, up until he heard ...
"Dant, Christopher!"
Giving Nicole a reassuring smile, Chris turned to head over to the stool with the sorting hat on it.
"Good luck!" Nicole called to him as he passed by her.
"You too," he responded.
Sitting down on the stool, Chris noticed that all of the students in the castle had their eyes trained on him. He couldn't help but to feel his cheeks burn in embarrassment as the sorting hat was placed on his head. He was never a fan of big group events, especially with him at the center of concentration. But, as soon as that hat hit his head, he found something else to worry about.
"Let's see here ..." the sorting hat started.
Chris couldn't help but to jump at hearing the sorting hat talk to him.
"Don't be so jumpy, now..." the sorting hat trailed off, before being interrupted by him.
I'm not jumpy! Chris thought to himself, with a shake of his head.
"Yes you are! Now, I see that you're a bit reserved, but confident as well. You are hardworking, a trait that defines Hufflepuff," the sorting hat continued to roam through his mind.
Noticing that the sorting hat could read his mind, Chris let out a short sigh. Might as well not provoke the hat anymore, and just listen to what it had to say.
"I heard that! Despite your snippy attitude, I see a thirst for information and the desire to find it. Yes, very curious indeed. A desire to complete the best work. Yes, I know where to put you ... Better be ..."
"RAVENCLAW!" the sorting hat shouted.
With a smile, Chris jumped off the stool, starting to head off to the Ravenclaw table. Giving his sister a smile, as he saw her get up to the sorting hat. He barely sat down at the table, when he heard his sister's house announced.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the sorting hat shouted for Nicole.
His heart sank a little, knowing that they wouldn't be in the same house. But, he smiled and clapped for his sister. Hopefully she'll like it there.
