Bouncing happily on the heels of her flats slightly, Addison stood waiting with the other first years in her class. Since her last name began with an R, she still had a while to wait before her own sorting. But, she had been excited, and relatively nervous when hearing about the sorting by a sorting hat on the Train.
'What if I'm placed incorrectly? What if I don't get along with the others in my new place? What if I don't like the .. the house that I'm apparently sorted in? Can I change it? Would I even be able to? Will I look like a fool? Will I even be accepted?'
These thoughts and more ran through her head on the Train. Since she grew up with no magic, she had legitimate concerns that her housemates wouldn't accept her. Sure, her brother made out fine. But, that didn't quell her fears. Her brother had told her that they were considered muggleborns, since they grew up with no magic. Knowing that there was a name for how her brothers and herself grew up, she worried that she wouldn't fit in with the other students.
These thoughts have slightly calmed themselves down ever since, and her nerves have slightly subsided. But, that still didn't stop her fidgeting in line, nor did it stop her apprehension.
"That hideous rag's going to sort us?" she asked a girl that she recently met on the train, giggling through her words as she noticed the sorting hat on the stool in the front of the Great Hall.
One by one, the students were called by alphabetical order of their last names. Still fidgeting in line, she couldn't help but to giggle as she saw the hat apparently talk, before shouting out the house that each student is sorted into.
"How is it possible that the hat's talking?" she asked the girl again, still giggling, "And, those names that its saying ... are those the names of the houses?"
"It's a magical hat, so I guess that it was charmed to talk. Yes, those are the names of the houses. You could be placed in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin."
"Oh, what funny names," Addison responded with a giggle. Truth be told, she remembered her brother mentioning all of that information over the summer. But, it seemed as if her rational thoughts were left outside once she had stepped foot into the castle. "But, how does the hat know where to sort you?"
Before the girl could answer her question, the girl was called up to the sorting hat. She was subsequently sorted into Gryffindor.
With a short sigh to wait out her nerves, Addison crossed her arms. She still fidgeted as she waited for her name to be called.
It seemed like such a long amount of time, but she finally heard her name called.
"Rockwell, Addison"
Leaping from her spot, Addison couldn't help but to walk nervously to the stool. Sitting down on the provided stool, she couldn't help but to feel a cold shiver as the worn out hat was placed on her head. All of a sudden, she heard mutterings coming from all around her. Were those the other students of the castle? No, wait, it was just the rag sorting hat talking to her.
"A little nervous now, are we...?" the sorting hat began.
Before the hat could begin to examine her, she whispered back to the hat. "Oh, I'm not that bad..." she trailed off.
"Not bad ... not bad indeed. I see loyalty. Yes, very loyal. And ... and, hard work. Yes, attributes to a Hufflepuff.."
Still fidgeting slightly, Addison sat there, listening to the hat talk. She knew absolutely nothing about Hogwarts or its houses, since she was a muggleborn.
"But, wait, I see ... curiousity. But not much brevity. You have some ambition. No, wait, I see how it is. I see a desire ... a desire to learn ... to know much more about your new surroundings. I see intelligence and ... and wit! And, let's not forget about creativity..."
The sorting hat rambled on for a bit, and Addison still sat quietly, letting the hat work its magic.
"Ok, I know now ... Better be ... '
"RAVENCLAW!" the sorting hat shouted.
The sorting hat was immediately lifted from her head, and Addison could see the blue and silver house nearby cheering loudly for her. With a smile, she climbed off of the stool nervously to join her chosen house. Her new home, away from home.
Sitting down at the table, Addison fixed her braided pigtails slightly from the slight mess the hat left it in. She took a moment to smooth out her uniform skirt as well. Looking next to her, she smiled at a girl that was sorted before her. "Hi! I'm Addison. I cannot wait for Hogwarts to begin!" she greeted the girl with a friendly, bubbly smile and a bout of giggles.
