    Physical Description:
Edgar isn’t the tallest chap at 5-10. He makes up for it with a physique that’s rugged and fit well into his forties. A strict vegetarian six days a week diet with one cheat day a week has kept him steadily in the same good shape since his youth. That, and his unyielding exorcise routine. His body does tend towards the bulkier side of the spectrum; more of a boxer’s build than a runners.

His face has been described by some of as bland. This doesn’t cause him any trouble with the ladies; he just doesn’t have the easiest face to remember. The thing that sticks out most on his weary face is his piercing sky blue eyes. His straight blond hair is always kept short; it’s never much longer than an Officer’s haircut. Though his natural complexion is relatively fair, his skin tans well and he isn’t often seen without at least a little bit of a tan, even in the dead of winter.

In the clothing department Edgar tends to stay well dressed. Modern robes of the high end suit variety are his favorite. He always keeps his robes well-tailored and wouldn’t be caught dead in anything ratty. He does wear muggle clothes from time to time. When he does wear muggle clothes his taste is nearly identical, suits and expensive watches. When in his robes he tends to go for pocket watches over the wrist variety. His shoes are always the best, and he tends to buy ones that go with both his wizard and muggle clothes.

In short, he isn’t tall, dark, nor handsome, but he is impeccably dressed, groomed, and in excellent shape.

    Personality Description:
Edgar’s personality is one of dichotomy. He is infinitely cool. He’s a stone faced hard worker who rarely lets anyone in. However, he’s also incredibly passionate about his work, and anything else that piques his interest. His cold outward demeanor tends to put people off at first, but after a wry joke and a few cocktails his personality can be construed as quite charming in a gentlemanly way. Though he is one to consider his words before speaking, he isn’t a quiet person in a room, and has a gift for drawing attention when he feels it’s needed.

Edgar is very loyal to the Ministry, to a fault. Both of his parents passing away when he was young effected his ability to connect to people. His estrangement over the years from his grandmother who raised him has only made things worse. He’s not one to keep anyone very close. That’s not to say he can’t be friendly or flirtatious, just that he’s not likely to really get close to his colleagues in a way that others might.

Edgar is also the type to enjoy a drink, and usually a good cigar as well if the occasion calls for it. He doesn’t smoke cigarettes.

    History:
Edgar was born to a muggleborn wizard, and a halfblood witch. The first few years of Edgar’s life were filled with days on the boardwalk and other things a young boy could enjoy with two parents who made him the center of their worlds. Tragically those memories are ones he can’t recall anymore, but the photographs he has of his parents help him deal with the fact that he wasn’t old enough to make permanent memories of them when they both passed. Both of his parents perished in a fire in the night at his home. He’s not sure how he made it out of the flames, something that has weighed on his mind his whole life.

Growing up he lived with his only surviving grandmother, who was also his only relative being that both of his parents were only children; as was he. His grandmother was very kind when he was young and he enjoyed his youth. She made sure he was well educated and finished properly. At Hogwarts he was out going in his own ways. He did extremely well in all of his classes, always taking more than the course load needed. He also excelled in dueling and on the quidditch pitch as a chaser. He was sorted into Slytherin house, something that he never quite understood.

Growing up and going to Hogwarts during the First Wizarding War didn’t affect him as drastically or tragically as some families. It did however make his grandmother’s prejudices come to light. Edgar was aware of his father’s status as a muggleborn, and thus his own connection to the muggle world. As his grandmother aged and Voldermort got stronger, her opinions got more and more apparent. She was never outwardly hostile towards Edgar, but he couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable with her. As time went on this became a dividing wedge, amongst other things, in their relationship.

After graduating, Edgar took an apprenticeship with the Department of Mysteries. Over the years he has steadily increased in rank within the department. He’s never thought about leaving his current role with the Mysteries. In fact during the Second Wizarding War he stayed on and worked in the Ministry the whole time; even as they were rounding up muggleborns. Though he wasn’t entirely aware of everything the corrupted Ministry was doing, he was aware of enough that he does feel shame over not doing something; even if it was from the inside.

When Edgar initially started with the Department of Mysteries he was just a regular apprentice. He helped out and worked as a secretary/slave for the personnel he was under. He wasn’t fantastic with the research aspect of his job. Early on in his apprenticeship he was asked to take part in a string of tests. Other young apprentices were also asked to take part. The testing process was strange, not focused on research but on retention of data. The testing on communication had more to do with reading people, and lying, and almost nothing to do with interoffice communications. When the testing was complete Edgar was pulled aside by the head of the Department of Mysteries. Edgar assumed he was being removed from his apprenticeship or something else awful. He wasn’t expecting to be cherry picked to be trained in international espionage. That is what happened though. Edgar spent years, and years training, and even continued to train as he moved into active duty.

Edgar has been overseas often since his move to active duty. He deals with any threat to the Ministry that needs to be dealt with covertly. He’s used his special skills to flip foreign agents, to destroy powerful artifacts all over the world, and to steal research on new spells and magical items, just to name a few things. He’s also done black operations at the behest of the Minister’s at the time. During the majority of the time that Voldermort controlled the ministry Edgar was out of the country. At the time he was in North East Africa, moving between countries following a powerful [removed] that was going to be sold at a black market auction. While the mission ended with the destruction of the [removed] by Edgar, the mission was considered a success when he got back to the UK. The [removed], had it been sold at the auction, would of raised a lot of money for some nefarious people. By the time Edgar got back to the UK after that Voldermort had already met his fate at The Battle of Hogwarts.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Edgar’s job in the Department of Mysteries is a unique one. He works closely with the top of the DIMC, going to foreign nations to discover magical things other Governments and private factions are working on. Occasionally he must not only perform espionage, but also sabotage these foreign magical devices and research.

Because of the dangerous aspect of his job, Edgar has to stay in top physical conditions. Not to mention he must also stay sharp with his dueling skills. Edgar also has to stay well rounded with his knowledge of Mysteries, as well as the ability to piece together the concepts of new Mysteries discovered in the field to return the information back to the Ministry.

The main function of Edgar’s job in the Department of Mysteries is direct action espionage, whether through covert means, or through the spell slinging way. He spends much of his time out of the country, but when back on UK soil he answers to the Head of the Department of Mysteries, and the Minister of Magic. He is usually briefed on the areas he will be sent to by the DIMC, the DIMC is also the group that gets him false papers for maneuvering in the foreign states.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
The fact that Edgar really has no family left makes him ideal for his job security wise. He doesn’t have any way to be flipped and thus can be trusted on these highly sensitive operations. Edgar being in great physical shape, as well as highly knowledgeable in all applicable skills, is an integral part of his job, and he is both.

    Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Edgar Grey isn’t your typical Unspeakable, or he wouldn’t be if there was such a thing. Edgar was raised by his grandmother (who he now greatly dislikes) after both his parents passed when he was very young. He was a Slytherin, though he isn’t sure why. After graduating he’s been an Unspeakable for around twenty years. Though he’s held multiple positions as an Unspeakable, he now strictly deals in espionage on behalf of the Department of Ministries and the English Wizard Government.
