Physical Description: Jamie is of average stature. She isn’t someone who stands out in a crowd. She has dark brown hair and green eyes. Her face is slightly wrinkled from age. She has a tattoo of a scorpion on her left forearm where her Dark Mark use to be.
Her dress tends to be formal because she is a teacher. Due to not having a lot of money she isn’t the most updated in regards to fashion – she does the best she can for herself and her daughter.
Personality Description: Jamie manages to hid her true feelings rather well. To those who know her she’s a sweet, caring, and wonderful mother. She’s a loyal public servant who worked for the MoM and currently for Hogwarts. She’s an upstanding citizen who does volunteer work to help support the rights for magical beings and creatures who have none.
However Jamie is dark. Her thoughts are dark and her heart is dark. Her soul is an infested entity. Her hands have been covered with blood, she has murdered. She has destroyed. However she manages to keep the two different sides of herself orderly and disconnected.
She is a positive model for her daughter and she tries with all her heart to hide her dark side from her.
History: Unknown to Jamie, she was actually placed into a orphanage in Cairo, Egypt by her birth parents around age 2. She is a third of a set of triplets. However almost immediately after being placed in this orphanage a British family, who was working in Egypt at the time, adopted her and brought her back to Cambridge, England.
Gregory Black, who was a Professor of Physics at Cambridge University, was the best father that Jamie could ask for. A wizard himself, he was delighted when Jamie unexpectedly displayed magical talents. Gregory Black is distantly related to Sirius Black. Gregory's father removed him from the family tree after he disgraced the Black family name by marrying a muggle woman and choosing to live and work with muggles. Gregory always believed in inequality and never understood his family's prejudice and obsession with blood purity. He was happy to be rid of them.
Jamie spent the majority of her childhood in her father’s labs and lectures, and from a young age she was inspired to be just like her gentle, caring and intelligent father. From an early age he sparked her interest in astronomy and potions. To this day she feels like she learned more about those two subjects from her father than any Hogwarts professor.
Fiona Black, Jamie’s mother and also a muggle, was not such a shining force in her life. She had an addiction problem and anger management issues. Gregory who was a non-confrontational person didn’t quite know how to deal with his wife. He seemed to just ignore her and spend as much time as he could in his office with his daughter than at home. This just fed Fiona’s problems. Fiona resented Jamie, who stole her husband from her, and she was verbally abusive to the girl. Telling her she was ugly, worthless, stupid, and unwanted.
Fiona attempted to poison Jamie when she was 8, but Gregory, who discovered what his wife had done, was able to feed her an antidote before the poison completely took over Jamie’s body. She remained at St. Mungo’s for a week as the staff was able to reverse the damage the poison had done. After Jamie returned from the hospital her mother was gone. Her father and she never spoke of it, it was just accepted.
Life settled back to normal, and before Jamie knew it she received her Hogwarts letter – which brought tears to her father’s eyes. However Jamie wasn’t quite as happy or excited as her father. She didn’t wish to leave him all alone, and she liked Cambridge University – she knew all the hidden passageways here and all of the professors knew her. She didn’t wish to start over and she didn’t want to be separated from her father. Regardless they made their trip to Diagon Alley and before she knew it she was running through a wall to reach Platform 9 and 3/4 . She had never been surrounded by magic before, sure her father did spells every now and again- but only simple ones that wouldn’t cause much attention. To suddenly be engulfed by it was slightly overwhelming for the pre-teen.
Before the train left her father kissed her forehead, telling her to make him proud by becoming a Ravenclaw like he was. This added pressure that Jamie had before not thought about. Where would she be placed? She didn’t really know much of anything regarding houses – just that her father had been in Ravenclaw. She didn’t even know what the houses meant. However, at the sorting ceremony, she was disappointed when placed in Slytherin along with some rude boys who had teased her on the train.
When she wrote to her father expressing her disappointment and concern he told her he knew she was strong and smart enough to get through it. She couldn’t help but feel like an outsider in her own house. Thankfully she managed to befriend Alexander Belisario who at least didn’t treat her as if she had three heads. She managed to excel at Hogwarts, namely in Potions and Astronomy. Her OWLs and NEWTs are as follows:

Luckily Jamie was in school during the First Rise of the Dark Lord. The war had very little effect on Jamie personally, as her father was her only family and he was safe at a muggle university. However it was heartbreaking to watch those around her lose family members. During her 5th year The Boy Who Lived defeated He Who Must Not Be Named and life went back to normal, for the most part.
Jamie managed to have many romances in and out of Hogwarts, however nothing really seemed to stick. She would either get bored with them or they couldn’t handle her (for whatever reason). Unlike most of her classmates Jamie didn’t get married immediately after graduating or at all for that matter.
After graduating Jamie went back to Cambridge to live with her father who became critically ill. While caring for him she began her own personal research on constellations and star configurations. Gregory Black died on October 20th, 1985 leaving Jamie completely alone. Jamie took the death of her father very badly. She blamed herself for not doing enough. She was mad, she was upset, and she was emotionally unstable. It was during this time that she got mixed up with a bad lot.
She became addicted to several illegal potions and herbs. She essentially lived the life of a drug addict; she did many despicable and illegal things to get the high she felt she needed; she practiced robbery and murder. She only murdered twice, and both times she killed nameless muggle drug dealers. Although she was completely consumed by drugs she did manage to work from time to time on her astronomy research and she was even published twice in Wizarding Science. Outwardly she seemed like a normal average person; however her addiction completely controlled her.
She worked for the Ministry of Magic beginning in 1991 as a researcher for the Potion & Herbological Research Office for the Department of Mysteries, until she turned 30 (in 1996).
At the age of 29 Voldemort had risen again. She joined his ranks as a new member; she received the dark mark on her 30th birthday. Jamie also became unexpectedly pregnant in 1996 at age 30. She gave birth to her daughter Isabelle Black on May 2nd, 1997. The father of her child was a Death Eater who died during the Final Battle. She worked for the Dark Lord as a researcher (however she never worked as a soldier for the Dark Lord due to her pregnancy and her being more intellectual incline rather than physically) until his demise in 1998.
Then she fled England for America. In America she managed to clean herself up, in regards to drugs. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she began working for local universities in their physics and astronomy departments. She was published in an American journal of science for her work on constellations and their effect on humans. She also wrote many interesting and thought-provoking pieces linking the science of astronomy to the art of astrology.
She decided to move back to England in 2001 to have her daughter educated in England. Although the Dark Mark on her forearm had faded, it was still somewhat visible as a scar. Through old contacts she found a magical tattoo artist who could cover the old Dark Mark with a simple tattoo. She decided on a scorpion design to represent her astrological sign. She hasn’t thought of her time as a Death Eater since then, however her thirst for violence and chaos hasn’t completely subsided.
While in England, Jamie returned to work for the Ministry of Magic as a researcher for the Potion & Herbological Research Office for the Department of Mysteries. She also conducted research in regards to Astronomy and the universe’s effect on plants and potions.
Jamie began working as the Astronomy Professor at Hogwarts in 2004. She and her daughter both live at Hogwarts. Her daughter will be entering Hogwarts as a 1st year this fall and both are excited. Jamie has become to her daughter what her father was to her.
Jamie’s future seems bright; however the actions of her past do continue to haunt her.

What is your teaching philosophy?:Jamie believes fairness and making things relative is the only way to effectively and efficiently teach a class. She believes demonstration rather than just lecture creates a positive learning experience. She doesn’t believe in befriending her students – she much prefers becoming a mentor of sorts to them.
She bases her relationships with her students off of respect and academic integrity and capability. Slytherins tend to occasionally dislike her because they think she will give them a break because she is “one of them”. She doesn’t play favorites.
She tends to teach to the top of the class, which unfortunately makes the bottom few students struggle immensely – however she has office hours that she always makes available to those students. It is their choice if they wish to seek her out.
Writing Sample:Professor Black cleared her throat as she passed a couple snogging madly in
her Astronomy Tower. The nerve of it, truly! “Excuse me,” she began with a disapproving tone, “the last time I checked, I had not invited my tower as a domain for your physical escapades. I will give you two minutes to vacant my tower and make your way to your individual common rooms. If I have to speak to either of you about this again, you will not be as pleased with the outcome.” With that the two scurried down the stairs, to what the Astronomy Professor hoped was their respective dormitories.
No one could say that Professor Black wasn’t merciful when she wanted to be. She made a noise that could only be described as a small giggle,
‘Teenagers,’ With that thought, she continued to her rooms where she had a daughter waiting for her. As she whispered her password, and the door to her rooms unlocked a sully looking 10 year old glared at her from a fireside armchair, “Great to see you too, Belle.” Jamie said with slightly amusement in her voice, her daughter was mad at her because Jamie had grounded her from eating in the Great Hall and was forced to eat alone in their rooms. That’s what the brat got for stealing from the Potion Master’s stores.
“I’ve told you numerous times, Belle, if you ever need something from one of the professors you can just can ask them or myself. I won’t allow stealing in my household, do you hear me?” Jamie lifted her daughter’s chin forcing her to look at her mother. “Do you understand, Belle?”
Her daughter, who continued to be stubborn refused to respond, “Go to your bed, now.” With a noise of disgust and anger the 10 year old pushed Jamie and stormed into her bedroom. “That’s it. Now you’re not leaving this room for a week.”
Jamie clenched her fists in anger. Her daughter was becoming such an annoying brat, even worse than some of her students. She had to nip this problem in the butt before it began to escalate. She would not allow her daughter to travel down the same path she had.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Jamie is an independent character who has dark secrets and essentially has two different lives.; the life of a teacher and a mom and one as a criminal. She seems to have overcome her dark side for the time being, but relapse is always possible. She loves her work and she’s dedicated to further research and insight of Potions and Astronomy and their undiscovered links. She also wants the best for her daughter, and would do anything for her.
