[Dec 5]Old Friends, New Scars [Flynn]

on November 27, 2012, 03:10:27 PM

Kael sat back holding his arm to himself, watching the white cloth slowly dye pink then deepening to almost black-red in some places as he bled quickly. The dancing black spots in front of his eyes told him that he was going to either be face to the floor or back in the bed unconcious before long. He had refused to let anyone in St. Mungo's treat him. He had requested a specific healer, saying that he would wait as long as it took for him to get there.

He hadn't seen the healer in many year, it would be nice to see his old friend again. He swayed a bit blinking away the ever creeping black spots that tangoed across his vision. He pulled himself up into the bed more so he could swing his feet over. Sighing he glared at the ceiling. What was taking him so long? He was going to bleed out before he had a chance to tell the other about the adventure he'd just been on.

As he usually worked on Spell Damage, it was strange to get a request to go on the first floor, of all places. Yes, he knew, like most of the healers did, how to deal with magical creature injuries. It had never been his specialty, but he did have his fair share of experience. He was told that it was a fairly urgent situation, so he wasted no time in getting to the first floor and finding his patient. He didn’t even have to look at the dragon tamer’s chart to know who it was. Kael Summers. They had always been friendly, though Flynn hadn’t seen him too much (except for the occasional injury) since they had graduated from Hogwarts.

“It looks like you’re bleeding more than usual today, Kael.” Flynn said, casually pointing out the obvious.  He did a quick evaluation of the arm and nodded. This was easy, and this dragon bite, though it was scary and bloody, was new. Kael wasted no time in getting here, and that was perfect for treatment. He had seen cases where people had stupidly waited so long that their wounds became infected and even more difficult to treat. “Would you like to tell me how this happened? What kind of dragon was it?” While Flynn went straight to St. Mungos for training after school, Kael decided to go the thrilling route—and it must have helped him with the ladies.

He took out his wand and waved it over the wound a couple times, murmuring a spell to quickly close up the wound, thjough there would probably still be pain at the site, and without dittany there would e scarring. Flynn doubted that Kael truly minded all of his scars. Each one told it’s own unique story. If Flynn was Kael, he’d be showing off the scars to Fauna to prove what a manly man he was. Unfortunately, Flynn was no manly man, and Fauna would have to settle for a fella who was only bitten by cats, not dragons.

Kael looked over at Flynn as he walked up. He stared at him for a while as if not sure he could speak. He moved the cloth, well the shirt away mechanically, a glassy look in his eyes. He had missed the healer and decided it had been too long since he had seen him last. When he was asked how it happened hecould only blink a few times. What was he saying? Had he lost that much blood already? It had only been four hours since he was bitten. Maybe that was it. He nodded his head as if that were an answer as he closed his eyes for a moment, while Flynn healed him.

"A young Swedish Short-Snout," he finally managed to slur out. "I'm sleepy I'm going to take a nap now."

He lay back eyes heavy lidded as he blinked slowly his friend going in and out of focus. Maybe he shouldn't have waited so long before coming to St. Mungo's. Why was the world spinning? Who's voice was asking those dumb questions? Why was the light so bright?

“Good, a young dragon. This should be easy enough to treat.” Fully mature dragon bites, on the other hand, could get rather nasty, even when treated early. Then, Kael was suddenly talking about feeling drowsy. Flynn looked at his old friend with confusion before noting the rather large amount of red on the sheets.

Oh. Right. Blood loss. That made people sleepy.
Sometimes he questioned whether or not he should have gotten this promotion.

“Just wait one moment!” He said dramatically, opening one of the cabinets and silently summoning a blood-replenishing potion with his wand. These were always handy. With magical creature injuries, it was definitely not uncommon for people to need to take these sorts of potions. There were certain venoms that actually caused the wound to keep from healing, and therefore some people would have to take blood replenishing potions over a long period of time. Flynn wondered how muggles dealt with blood loss. Certainly, they didn’t do anything insane like taking blood from one person and giving it to another. That’d make the blood-giver sick!

He rushed over to Kael and brought the potion to his lips. “Drink this.” He commanded, “It’ll help.”

When he heard Flynn shouting about waiting a moment he chuckled opening his eyes slowly. He would wait a million mintues for the joke.... Shaking his head he knew it wasn't a joke. This time he wasn't going to pretend to be half eaten to scare his friend. That was a good joke, even if it did cause the two not to talk for a while. He hadn't done anything like that since he had almost lost his arm though. It was too close for comfort that time. Too real.

As he felt the cool glass brougt to his lips he looked at Flynn, then to his hands realizing that they felt heavy. Not questioning it he drank from the vial until it was pulled away. Sitting up slowly he looked over at Flynn.

"We should go get a drink," he said as he nodded suddenly thinking it a good idea to jump off the bed.

Falling half into his friend and half on the floor he shook his head agian. Oh dear, something was wrong. This wasn't just bloodloss. Not sure what it was. He knew what bloodloss felt like and he was too addled, this was different.

Flynn caught Kale and quickly put him back in bed. “No, no drinks right now. Maybe after you’re healed.” He said firmly, though gently. He took another look at the wound; it had opened up again and had a greenish tint. A sign of poisoning. He hadn’t known Swedish Shortsnouts to be poisonous… “Kael. Kael, this is important. Are you sure that it was a Swedish Shortsnout? It wasn’t a crossbred dragon? It wasn’t a ridgeback or a vipertooth?” He frowned, “And, how long did you wait before you decided to get treatment for this?” If it was a Swedish Shortsnout, and he had waited for a long time to be healed, then perhaps the wound was infected. Magical infections could be nasty if left untreated. However, if it was a crossbred dragon that was poisonous, Flynn would have to go a totally different route as far as treatment went. He needed the accurate information.

Now, he was no dragonologist, but part of healer training was learning which animals were venomous and which were not-- but if the poison (or infection) affected Kael's thought process, then there was no certainty of what was causing it, so Flynn would have to cover all his bases.

Kael looked at Flynn then to the bag on the floor besode the bed. Maybe ot wasn't a Swedish Short-snout. No was...what was its name. Hooking the bag with the toe of his boot he lifted it and grabbed the list out of the bag wincing as the move opened the bag grabbing a notebook as he flipped it open. It was his detailed list of all qualities, physocal and personality details, medical needs, pictures, and more of ebery dragon he worked with.

Looking for a moment his breath hitched, the tightening in his chest getting worse. Ignoring it he found the picture and pa ge he needed. It was Adrox a young Swedish Vipertooth hybrid.  Looking back to Flynn he turned the book to him.

Gasping for a breath he spoke, "Four hours. Had to round up....round up little ones.... You know how they are."

Flynn looked at the picture carefully and then read the list of different traits that particular dragon had, located next to the picture. A Swedish Vipertooth hybrid. He would have groaned-- four hours. Kael had waited four hours. That was a four hour risk of infection. A four hour period where the poison was making it's way through the bloodstream. Luckily, it was only a hybrid. Kael would have been much closer to death if it had been a pure vipertooth. Flynn opened one of the cupboards and pulled out four different potions. He handed two of them to Kael.

"Drink those." He said. One was a potent antidote for this unusual poison. This floor often saw dragon injuries and had different potions for different poisonous dragon types. There were two main ones-- the Vipertooth and the Ridgeback, and the two dragonbreeds, Flynn had learned from other tamers who had been bitten, were related.

"These two will need to be taken in another fifteen minutes. One will prevent infection. The other will make the antidote more effective." He explained.

Kael watched Flynn read over the notebook and then pull out the appropriate potions for him to drink. They looked like they tasted horrible. But being in no condition to complain, since his brain wasn't really froming much more than very...awkward thoughts he decided to keep his mouth shut and drink the first two. That was about all it took for what could only be called 'word vomit' to be released.

Falling agianst his friend he laughed, head on his chest and a hand on Flynn's cheek patting it. "You look so pretty today Flynny-poo. I bet Fauna just loves that...so pretty. You're so soft....I like soft things.." he rambled moving on from patting to stroking the healer's face, his eyes half glazed over.

Word vomit was certainly better than real vomit. Flynn patted his friend’s head and laughed. “Yes, yes, I am a fluffy man. Soft and Fluffy, just like Henry. Mildred’s fluffy too, but I don’t think she’d like that complement.” He then muttered under his breath, “She probably let that malevolent squirrel in..”   Flynn backed away as soon as Kael started stroking his face—well, this behavior was to be expected from someone who had poison in their system.

“Yes, yes. Fauna loves my beauty. She thinks I look fantastic in ball gowns and bonnets.” He winked, “And I do. I don’t hold a candle to my mummy and sister—but that’s what they get for being all… Pretty.” That was his word for it. Flynn so wished he had veela charm like they did. He looked at Kael’s eyes, they were a bit glossy, but that wasn’t too unusual. All he could really do now was wait and observe the changes.

Kael laughed at Flynn's muttering and ramblings. At the mention of his mother and sister, he giggled. When Flynn had suddenly backed away it left Kael wobbling a bit before falling back onto the bed. Pulling himself up he coulndn't help but laugh more. Even through the poision's haze he could still clearly remember the times that he had stayed with Flynn during thier breaks at Hogwarts. Needless to say the frist day he had visited was very intersting. Over the years it had evolved from the awkward silences and his staring to vases shatterng where his head had been seconds before.

"So violent, those poor vases. They never did anything to deserve being thrown across the house, and the roses! Those poor poor poor bushes. They burn up so fast," He said laying back across the bed remembering the many things that had happened thanks to his teasing comments to both veela women in the Hughes household.

“Those were the last of my dad’s color-changing roses, too!” Flynn recalled. Gods, his mother could be scary sometimes. He had grown used to it—it was typical veela behavior, and her culture was so weird and so alien compared to his father’s. Over the years, she had definitely mellowed out, but if she got angry enough, you could expect a fireball or two.  “Why did you feel like you needed to egg on my mummy? You know that wasn’t a good idea!” He was laughing though—it had gotten to the point where his mom had actually dreaded Kael’s visits. She had warmed up to him eventually, but it took a long time.

“Audrey likes you now, though I don’t think she’d admit it.” Audrey was one to hold grudges, and if she didn’t like you on first impression, she claimed that she’d always hate you—even if her actions said otherwise. “I don’t think she’ll throw silverware at you anymore.” Unless Kael started picking on her, then all bets were off.

“How are you feeling, Kael? Dizzy? Does your stomach hurt at all?”

Smiling at the revelation that Audrey might not be tossing kitchen knives and meat cleavers at his head Kael sat up slowly. He was still feeling rather drunk or high, the latter he never had been so he was guessing. Looking up at Flynn he pushed himself onto the bed more and managed to sit up straight. Shaking his head to the question about being dizzy or nauseous he rubbed his eyes. He was still tired, but that was to be expected he supposed. He didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night, which probably had led to him getting bitten in the first place.

"I only made fun of them and kept it going so long because it was funny to see them get mad. That and your sister is hot. I had a crush on her so teasing her was twice as fun," he replied as he held out his hand. "It's been fifteen minutes hasn't it?"

Flynn let out an irritated huffy noise and put the next potion in Kael’s hand. “Drink it quickly." He made the huffy noise again. "I know you had a crush on her. You, and half the people we knew.” Audrey couldn’t help it! She had taken after their mother very heavily. Still, Kael having a past crush on Audrey wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the people who had a crush on Flynn’s mother! That had been disturbing and traumatizing for him. He wondered how he’d handle it if he ever had a child who had inherited the veela charm trait. Flynn hadn’t gotten it, but he wondered how much of it was connected to the fact that he was a male. Surely, there were some males with veela charm!

“D’you know anyone single that Audrey wouldn’t want to throw sharp objects at? Mom’s been wanting her to find a partner.” Male or female, it didn’t matter! His family had accepted homosexual couples after Uncle Tobias and Aunt Rhiannon divorced, and Tobias had found love in Uncle Vince. It had taken time for them to accept it, but now they couldn't imagine a time when Vince hadn’t been a part of the family.

“And you know Audrey, she tends to... Make people angry.”
