[Dec 5] Mysterious Mirages (Minerva)

on November 03, 2012, 05:55:25 PM

A few days after the Transfiguration Seminar, Naomi decided she was going to snag a book on the subject and learn a few solid facts. She would have preferred to ditch the lecture after the Headmistress had left, but Tracy wasn't that rude, so she had to sit through subjective narratives, opinions, and very strange tidbits of information as she tried to rationalize all the information in her head. And, to top it all off, she figured out the book she wanted was in the one of those old enchanted bookcases in one of the classrooms. Getting into the bookcase was simple, but getting into it without getting caught was another issue. Well, since it was Sandusky's seminar she had to sit through, then it could be Sandusky who got the book.

After the application of some metamorph and transfiguration skills, under a wonderful disguise of Sandusky, Naomi strolled through the halls, past the living portraits and into the empty classroom. There, with the assistance of some wandwork and a few runes, Naomi got the bookcase open, tucked the book under Sandusky's arm, closed it, re-enchanted it, and then strolled towards the library.

Of course, the witch made sure to take one of Hogwarts' infamous shortcuts, out of the view of any prying eyes so that she could transfigure and metamorph her and her clothes back into her preferred appearance and style that belonged to Naomi Foley. At least she didn't have to really act or talk like the elderly professor--there was too much effort involved there.

Finally the witch wandered off to the library, crawled into one of the window spaces, and began reading the extensive book on Transfiguration laws, discoveries, mysteries, and milestones. Anyone who walked by her could easily see the cover of her book, but she doubted many could identify the book simply from its cover--if they could she found it highly unlikely they'd walk by her at that very moment.

However, the fact that someone could be hunting the castle for the Transfiguration professor completely escaped her thoughts. It was Saturday after all!

Soft padded feet travelled slowly through the dusty tomes of the Hogwarts library. The smell of fresh ink and ancient parchment coupled with the sounds of ruffling pages and the soft scratching of quill nibs made for quite a soothing environment. Students gathered around tables, either being studious or chatting quietly (about the juiciest piece of gossip, no doubt!). As the Headmistress passed quietly by, the chatter ceased and heads turned in her direction. The newness of a new Head hadn’t yet wore off and the inhabitants of the castle weren’t yet sure what to think about the esteemed animagus.

Of all the places in Hogwarts, the library had always been one of Minerva’s favorites. Since taking up the mantle of Headmistress again, she hadn’t had time to peruse the aisles as she would have liked, but her duty to the castle came first. Oh and what a duty it was! If it wasn’t a duel in the halls or a dispute with one of the visiting heads, it was an upset parent or a vacant position needing to be filled. Indeed, even her seemingly leisurely trip to the library wasn’t for personal enjoyment, she needed to see the Head of Hufflepuff about some issues with his students, but the man was nowhere to be found.

As she walked through the vast room, she noticed a young woman sitting alone with a very familiar book. Animagus magic was an extremely difficult branch of transfiguration, one that took immense skill and focus. Minerva walked quietly over to the window and looked down her spectacles at the young Slytherin. “I was wondering if you might have seen Professor Sandusky?” She asked, “A portrait told me he was headed this way and I can’t seem to find him. Miss…?”

Figures and blurs passed out of the corner of Naomi's eyes as she began to delve into a section of the tome on some infamous transfiguration experiments from the ridiculous to the unbelievable--sadly, however, not many--really any--on metamorphs. Then figure loomed closer to her and she kept her green gaze trained on the book, hoping that if she ignored their presence they would wander off. But as the familiar and aged tone hit her ears, the Slytherin realized that the figure hadn't wandered off at all; to top it all off, it was Minerva McGonagall, the headmistress.

Naomi rolled her lips together with a hum as she lifted her gaze up towards the headmistress, "Naomi Foley," she answered as she pursed her lips in thought. Thinking of some way to avoid the witch's question entirely, but hoping to appear as though she was trying to figure out when she last saw Sandusky.

"I don't really remember seeing him come in..." she hugged a shoulder to her cheek as she let the book rest against her lap while she braced a hand against it and then turned to look around the library. "I've jus' been..." her free hand came up to snag a curl between her fingers as she tried to think of another word besides reading, "relaxing and not really paying attention."

Naomi let her eyes meet the headmistress' gaze, feeling uncomfortable-- even though she was trying to purposefully act a little air-headed Transfiguration was something that was private for her. Now someone was asking her about the Transfiguration Professor, and that someone was one of the leading minds in the field of Transfiguration.

If someone got on her nerves later that day she was going to transfigure them into a toad.
