[Dec 9th] Better Late Than Too Late [Maiko] Tags: Gabriel Sabern Maiko Biladeau-Yukawa December 2009 December 9 2009 Read 305 times / 0 Members and 1 Guest are viewing this topic. [Dec 9th] Better Late Than Too Late [Maiko] on November 02, 2012, 02:25:57 PM Going from the Great Hall then up to his dorm and then all the way back down to the ground floor was starting to seem like a bad idea. Normally, Gabriel would still be asleep for another thirty minutes, seeing how his first class didn't start until almost lunch, but there was something that had started to nag at him. Something important, and it was high time he did something about it, before the year was over and he was stuck without any idea of what to do.Stopping outside the counselor's door he ran a hand through his hair to make sure it was okay and didn't look like he'd just gotten out of bed he knocked on the door and listened to see if she was in. It would be rather uncomfortable waiting outside an office with no one inside. Fortunately for him, a voice answered his knock and he opened the door and stepped inside, shutting it behind him more out of habit than anything. "Hello, Counselor, I was wondering if you could help me with something." She tried to be a morning person, and it took her copious amounts of tea and a few bites of fruit for her to make herself presentable. She was a night owl—she always had been. Waking up always involved ‘just five more minutes’ and rolling over in different positions to keep from falling completely back to sleep so she wouldn’t sleep in too late. She was just awake enough to look awake when Gabriel knocked on the door and came in when she urged him to. “Good morning, Gabriel!” Maiko exclaimed, pulling out a second tea cup and pouring him one. The owl cup hooted contentedly. “Sit down. Have some tea.” She insisted gently, though she wouldn’t be offended if he refused the tea. That meant more for her. “What would you like ‘elp with?” She asked inquisitively, sitting down in one of the chairs in front of her desk instead of behind the desk. She held the second cup out to Gabriel, and the owl cup stared at him as if begging him to take it. Blinking as it hooted and stared at him as he accepted and took it. He was used to items being enchanted, but a hooting owl cup was almost a little disconcerting. Taking a seat he took a sip and settled in the chair."Well, obviously this is my last year here at Hogwarts and... I've no clue what to do when I finish. I'm not desperate for money or anything, but... I really don't want to have to work for my mom and dad, great as they are. I just... want something that's more me." He wasn't entirely sure he had explained that as well as he could, but he was no speech maker. It was also part of her job to help the students figure out what they wanted to do with their future, and make sure that they take the classes required for the career. However, figuring out what the student really wanted to do was the hard part. She needed to figure out their interests and passions, what they hated and what they loved. What subjects they were awful in, and which subjects they excelled in. “What sort of thing do you think is more you?” Maiko inquired, “What are some things that you like to do? What are some subjects that you are more interested in than others?” When she had been about Gabriel's age, her interest had mostly been anything that helped others, so she decided to focus on healing to bring in money while attending university to study psychology like her muggle mother had done. "I'm not entirely sure, I just know I'm especially good at Charms." His grades in the subject spoke for themselves. Not that he made poor grades in his other classes, he just didn't excel at them like with Charms.Of the things he liked to do... He really enjoyed eating muffins here and there, maybe at meal times or when available, but he certainly didn't want to go baking them and other things all day. That was just... rather lame. Gabe was much too active to spend the day bustling about in a kitchen."I like being able to move about.... I ride and care for horses when I'm at home." Not to mention his 6 year old border collie, Damon, who was still very much active. Perhaps he would like to work with animals as a career? However, there were many jobs that required being able to use charms proficiently. Honestly, Gabriel had plenty of options at his disposal. “There are many different careers that involve charms.” She said, “Healers, members of the DMLE, and workers at the ministry all ‘ave to use them to some extent.” There were so many different departments at the ministry, and there were so many jobs that he could potentially get once he graduated, provided he had met the NEWT requirements. “As you can see, there are plenty of choices—is there a certain area that sounds more interesting to you than others?” Mai inquired, “Or, is there anything that you know you absolutely do not want to do?” Perhaps, that question was more important than her previous one. She was of the opinion that you should do what you love, instead of taking a job you hate and being stuck in it for the rest of your life, just for the money. If your career felt like a job, and it wasn’t meaningful, then it wasn’t worth it. "Well, I wouldn't teach a class of any sort, which is good it's not an immediate option anyway. Otherwise... I'm not entirely sure about the law. Not something that's really interested me. As for the rest, that's all based on classes isn't it?"Downing the last of his tea he set the owl cup on the table. "If it helps, my NEWT classes are COMC, DADA, Charms, Astronomy, Herbology, and Potions." He wasn't entirely fond of potions, but the subject itself wasn't difficult if you could follow/remember instructions. Skip to next post
