“It’s going to be fine,” she nodded at Nikari, eyes darting around the cubicle area leading to Rosier’s office, where his secretary eyed them from her desk.
“We’ll just… ask politely. Get in, get out.”
This was the first time she’d ever spoken to the Head of the MLE directly. Fauna didn’t know about anyone else, but whenever Rosier swept through Level Two with that grim cloud over his head (which seemed to be his default state), she made like a house elf and worked her bum off. The last thing she wanted to do was piss him off or draw attention to herself. No way. She saved the cheeky backtalk for Pratt.
Awful Pratt! Why had he sent her on some silly errand he could have accomplished on his own? And with the new girl too, who kept using her Veela charm. This must be payback.
“Um… Nikari, try to not do that thing you do, ok? You know,” Fauna gestured worriedly.
Pausing in front of the secretary, she explained their situation. The woman raised her eyebrows at her trainee uniform, then flipped through a full-to-bursting appointment book. After a moment, she waved the two trainees forward.
Fauna took a deep breath. She knocked, opened the heavy door, and hovered in the doorway.
“Sorry to bother you, Mr. Rosier. Uh, Auror Pratt sent us.”
