[Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] on October 21, 2012, 06:39:32 PM The boathouse looked empty to her as she made her way inside after trying every attempt for the last four days to get away from her brother. She loved her twin like no other, but all the studying and worrying about exams - all on his part - were starting to bum her out and she needed to get away and do something completely weird and unusal. She sat down on the edge of where the boats were lowered and began to take her shoes and socks off. Of course she knew this was irresponsible, it was freezing outside, no one in their right mind would dare to dangle their feet in the water like this, but that's why it was so fun, because no one would do it. She cast a strong warming charm on her feet though, so when the cold over-powered it, she knew it was time to remove them from the water. Now, to go back to day-dreaming of the day when she found a job that would let her be her crazy self without any repercussions. That would be the day. Sky scoffed, to this day she didn't know of a job that would let anyone do exactly as they pleased. They didn't exist. Her thoughts slowly turned to the upcoming ball. She grinned as she realized that her dress would certainly stand out. But as she'd taken most of her seven years here at Hogwarts avoiding guys, or just being their friends, she hadn't really thought about a date. She could go alone, no one would expect her to do what everyone else was doing, but then again, it was her last year at school and maybe this once, she could jump on the bandwagon. She lifted her feet out of the water and dried them off with the towel in her backpack and put her shoes and socks back on before laying down, using her bag as a pillow and began to think of a guy that she wouldn't mind going to the ball with. Her stomach growled and she smiled, not moving from her position, she reached a hand into the side pocket of her bag and pulled out an apple. Biting into it, she realized that she didn't know if there were any guys at Hogwarts who would put up with her wacky attitude for one whole night. There might be a couple of them in Slytherin, but then again, if they agreed, her bright pink attire might throw them off and they'd decline. As she finished the apple and tossed the core into the water, her eyes slid closed. She wasn't sleeping, she was just thinking about which guy to ask to the ball, after all, she couldn't do everything by the book. [1] 1. It was were the lamp oil was kept, the oil they used for the lanterns on the boats. It was perfect for the little smoke bombs he liked to make. They were even better than Weasley's in his opinion. He hadn't worn enough clothes, and so his arms were crossed tightly across his hoodie as he hurried inside. As his eyes adjusted to the dimness inside, he realized he wasn't alone. It was Sky O'Connor, a seventh year Gryffindor Figaro liked to joke around with. He smiled and asked innocuously. "Hiya. Where's Shade?" The twins were usually together and to see her off on her own was kind of unusual. But he was already headed up to the high wooden shelves. The boats lapped quietly in the water as he pulled down the handled jug of amber liquid. She replied, laying her head back down on her backpack. "I know it's cold out, but the castle was too stuffy, it's bad enough that I have to stay inside most of the week, but for him to want me to stay inside on the weekend, well, he's just kidding himself."She sat up with her legs to the side, dangling over the water, "So, you up to mischief again?" she asked him. She knew he came down here for some reason, but she didn't know exactly what. "And exactly why aren't you wearing a coat?" she said in an impression of someone who actually cares. She held her facial expression of concern for a grand total of five seconds before she smiled and said, "I stole my brother's coat before coming outside if you want to use it." she told him in a matter-of-fact tone.Truthfully she did it cause she didn't want him down her neck like he always was. She enjoyed being a twin, she really did, but he thought he had to be there by her side every minute to prod her into doing her schoolwork or to 'protect' her, even though she was perfectly capable of protecting herself. He indicated the rickety wooden building around them with a nod and a grin. But he knew what she meant. He tried to pull out the cork in the jug, but his fingers were cold; he rubbed them together vigrously and tried again. "It's not cold," he said with manly defiance of the elements. POICK! The cork came free and the liquid in the glass jug sloshed around. He tipped it close to his nose, inexplicably, to give it a sniff. He recoiled and waved his hand in front of his face. "Fyew!" But he seemed satisfied. From his deep hoodie pocket, he produced an old jar. "What are you two doing for holidays then?" he asked. It was about that time of year that question started to get asked all the time. He'd heard more people than usual would be staying up at school, because of the Tournament, and that some yet had plans to take their new American or French friends around the countryside on trips. Figaro's own situation was more of a sentence, but maybe Shade and Sky had something better going on. "I know it's cold, but I'm just going to laugh at you when you begin to freeze." she told him, "It will be rather nice to be able to tell you I told you so."She paused for a moment while standing there, "My brother is on my back about finding a date to the Ball." Her smile turned into a grimace, "I don't know what the big deal is, it's a bunch of stuffy dancing and girls in frilly plain dresses that are plainly desperate for the guy they are with to notice something other than they are with a girl." She sighed, "It's stupid is what it is."Sky felt very strongly about the subject of the ball, she wanted to go, and with someone, but unlike her brother who wanted to go with someone who he felt something for - Sky just wanted to go with a good friend, that way there would be no expectations between the two of them and they could make fun of all the couples."I'm only going to laugh at people's clumsy attempts to dance." she finally said before unbuttoning her coat and tossing it somewhere over by her bag. "It might be a fun night that way." This time of year, very few people would go to the boat house, since there was little to do in there. It was too cold to reasonably risk a boat trip on the lake, but the lake wasn't frozen, so you couldn't skate. therefore, it was the perfect place to enjoy a break from people talking about holiday plans.Reaching the Boat House, josh walked in, seeing Sky O'Connor and Figaro Sellaphix. Josh overheard Sky talking about what he assumed was the Yule Ball. "Hi, Sky, Fig." Josh said, amused at Sky talking about laughing at people's attempts at dancing. She kicked it away from the edge just as Josh walked in and she looked up when he said her name. "Hi Josh." she said as she knelt by her back and rummaged around in the mess til she found what she was looking for - - the one thing she could never leave home without - - a deck of Muggle playing cards."Either of you want to play cards?" she said as she sat down on the floor and started shuffling the deck. She was rather good at shuffling, but the one game she could never get the hang of was poker. She enjoyed playing war and blackjack, but the rules of poker seemed to go in one ear and out the other. This vexed her greatly because she dearly loved to gamble when playing cards and when she played poker, she always seemed to lose.[1] 1. You just watch." But despite his bravado he was dreading the ball. He still had yet to properly ask Sophie, and he heard that the Champions would have to dance all properly in front of everyone and that all sorts of important people would be there. But just as he might've continued his conversation with Sky, she meandered away and who but the illustrious, notable Joshua Q. Harcroft should join them. In the boathouse of all places. He did a double-take at what he was doing, 'borrowing' the ever-lit lantern oil - it wasn't strictly allowed, probably. He'd never asked. And Josh was a prefect..."Alright, Josh?"Figaro was actually happy to see Josh - they weren't close but they had more or less gotten on since their first year."Are those muggle cards?" Figaro was leaning over the bottle, trying to shove the cork back in. "What do you play with those?" Skip to next post Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #8 on October 29, 2012, 10:24:45 PM Shade indeed had been looking all over the castle for his trouble-maker twin. She had been goofing off all weekend and she needed to come back inside and get to studying. And to top it all of, she stole his favorite coat so that he'd stew for a few minutes before donning another and start looking for her. He knew she wasn't inside the castle, of course, she knew he would think that so he started on the seventh floor and made his way down. He even stopped in the library even though he knew Sky would drop dead before going into the library willingly. Shade finally made it to the Great Hall and after a quick sweep of the students at the tables he headed outside. Mentally he ticked off the places Sky was most likely to go first - - 1) The Quidditch pitch, the girl was as quidditch crazy as he was, even though he hid it better, 2) the Greenhouses - Sky had a green thumb, but didn't like to do it cause she had to, she was growing something in greenhouse 2 but hadn't told him what, and 3) the forest - even though she'd been told by him, their parents, the professors, and even the Headmistress once not to go in there.Shade took a deep breath and started heading towards the Quidditch pitch hoping that he'd find his missing twin there, if not, well, it was still early.[1][2] 1. Figured since I'm going to have Sky talk about her brother a few times, you all would like to know what his progress is in finding where she's hiding 2. As she finished shuffling she sat the cards down in front of her, "You can play poker, rummy, spades, blackjack, there are so many to name, but I love all of them." "So, you guys want to play something?" she asked as she pulled her bag to her and pulled out a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, "it'll be fun, I promise." Sky smiled as she popped a neon green bean into her mouth and promptly grimaced, "Ew, brussel sprouts." she didn't spit it out though, she was tougher than that, the only one she'd ever spit out was the liver flavored bean. She couldn't stand that flavor."I mean, if you want to. We can always do something else, or find something to talk about." Yes, she was rambling, but in the back of her mind she was wondering how close her brother was to finding her, she knew that when he did, the fun would be over and he would end up dragging her back to the castle to study. A frown graced her lips at the very thought of studying.[1] 1. Just in case anyone was wondering -this is what Sky and Shade are wearing. Mainly because Josh really wasn't interested in stopping Fig and he wanted plausible deniability about whatever Fig was going to do with the oil."I can play most card games, though I prefer rummy. I suppose because it's more skill-based than other games. You want to play with Jokers or without?" Josh said, hoping they would play rummy. He played quite a bit when he was at home, indeed, was the best in his family at it. Skip to next post Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #11 on October 30, 2012, 04:49:09 PM Figaro, usually up for anything, was actually balking at learning a new card game. Muggle games were always confusing as hell and nothing exploded, snapped, or otherwise did anything violent. With the cork securely in the lamp-oil jug, he delivered it back to its home on the worn wooden shelf. Back at the table, he spun the lid onto his jar and tightened it up good - wouldn't help anything to have it leaking all over inside his pocket. The boathouse was sheltered, but it wasn't doing so much to keep away the total chill of the Scotland outside and Figaro's hoodie was loosing its battle. Both Sky and Josh seemed ready to settle in for fun-tivities in the boathouse of all places. "Muggle games suck," he said. Figaro was a child of the wizarding world where the chess pieces moved on their own, snitches were worth 150 points and if you could manage it, lighting your card on fire was a legal move.[1] What did 'going fish' have to do with anything? But Figaro didn't make a move to leave. Instead he leaned against the table he'd be working at and crossed his arms in the chill. 1. The mysterious, illustrious, old-fashioned Wizards' Poker. She looked at Josh, "I've played rummy before, but I've forgotten the rules."[1] "You wouldn't mind refreshing my memory would you Josh?" she said in a flirtatious manner, but hopefully both boys knew she was just joking around, she didn't really fancy anyone at the moment, and besides Josh was a friend."Come join us, it might be fun you know." she said to Figaro as she set the cards down on the boathouse floor and waited to see if Josh would explain the rules to her, she knew some of them, but not enough to play the game right. 1. Which is funny because that can be said of me, I love to play rummy, but I can never remember the rules Skip to next post Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #13 on October 31, 2012, 02:33:36 PM "Sure, I'll explain the rules. It's pretty simple. The dealer deals seven cards face-down to each player. You should not let anyone else see the cards you've got. One player gets 8 cards. That player has to discard one card from their hand, putting it face-up next to the deck. the next player can either pick the card up, or draw a card from the deck. Regardless, said player then has to discard another card. The aim of the game is to get a hand made up of either 7 cards in a row, or two 'runs' of either 3 or 4 cards in a row from the same suit. For instance, ace-two-three is a run, as is two-three-four-five. You can also have a run of 3 or 4 of the same number. Jokers, if used, can be anything." Josh explained, hoping that was enough. "Where are you Sky?" he asked, even though no one was near enough to hear him. He looked for her thouroughly, up in each stand, and under each one, he even checked the changing rooms - although she didn't play the game, so it was unlikely that she'd be in there. When he finished checking everything he sat down in the Ravenclaw stands and thought for a moment with his head resting on his fist that was propped up on his elbow. He was mentally naming off places she could be and trying to decide where he should look next, "I'll try the Greenhouses I guess." he knew she hung out there sometimes, so he might just find her there. It didn't even occur to him to look for her somewhere where she didn't often go. Skip to next post

And Josh was a prefect..."Alright, Josh?"Figaro was actually happy to see Josh - they weren't close but they had more or less gotten on since their first year."Are those muggle cards?" Figaro was leaning over the bottle, trying to shove the cork back in. "What do you play with those?" Skip to next post
Re: [Dec. Just in case anyone was wondering -this is what Sky and Shade are wearing. P.S. the second coat on Sky's side is the one she took from her brotehr to stall him from coming to look for her (the leather one at the bottom) Skip to next post
Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #9 on October 29, 2012, 10:41:39 PM Sky looked up to Figaro as he asked his question, "Yep, muggle cards, I love them." she answered. Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #10 on October 30, 2012, 02:08:54 PM "Fine, Fig." Josh said, ingoing fig doing something with the lantern oil. Skip to next post
Re: [Dec. Skip to next post
Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #12 on October 30, 2012, 06:26:38 PM Sky noticed Figaro rubbing his arms as if he were cold, "You sure you don't want to borrow my brother's coat Fig, I mean, it is going to get cold if we stay in here to play cards." She looked at Josh, "I've played rummy before, but I've forgotten the rules."[1] "You wouldn't mind refreshing my memory would you Josh?" she said in a flirtatious manner, but hopefully both boys knew she was just joking around, she didn't really fancy anyone at the moment, and besides Josh was a friend."Come join us, it might be fun you know." she said to Figaro as she set the cards down on the boathouse floor and waited to see if Josh would explain the rules to her, she knew some of them, but not enough to play the game right. 1. Which is funny because that can be said of me, I love to play rummy, but I can never remember the rules Skip to next post
Re: [Dec. Re: [Dec. 6th] don't rain on my parade[Shade, PM to join] Reply #14 on November 01, 2012, 04:29:16 PM Shade made it to the Quidditch pitch and looked at first glance for his sister.
