Getting Your Grade
This test and individual grades are graded in one of two ways:

  • Reply to this thread.
Follow the instruction and form on how to complete this exam, and then reply to this thread with a role played post of your student taking the test. Based on that post, I will determine their grade for the test and then add it to their overall grade for the class.

    • and/or

    Send Sissel a PM.
Title your pm with "Year / Student Name" and then fill out the following form.
Code: [Select]
Student Name:
Requested Grade:
What have they done to earn this grade?:
Describe how they completed their exam:

  • Provide as much detail as possible on your student's performance, this will make it easier to determine a grade. If I feel it is necessary, I may question your reasoning, especially if your requested grade is in contrast to their character as previously exhibited in their threads at Hogwarts and lessons. Linked evidence to such posts are welcome.

Passing Grades
O - Outstanding; E - Exceeds Expectations; A - Acceptable

Failing Grades
P - Poor; D - Dreadful; T - Troll

A failed grade does not mean your character is in trouble but it would be good plot fodder for the next term.

Sissel was facing down the third in a block of the classes turning in their fall projects today. It was Wednesday, so hopefully they would appreciate the free period he was giving them on Friday for their preparations for the holiday and next term, unless they had stragglers carry over into the other period.[1]

"Alright everyone. Today you'll be sharing your observations about our visiting foreign guests, or the other foreign guests if you are one already." He had a few in the class that were from the other schools. "You were encouraged to explore an aspect of foreign magical culture; it could be the school participating in the tournament, it could be a visiting delegate provided they were champion or staff, or anything else you discovered on their culture from other research."

"Friday when you show up to class I'll provide the butterbeers. But only to those with satisfactory projects. I'm kidding, there will be plenty for everybody!"

OOC: There are two ways to post in this thread. Your character could give an oral presentation or write an essay, using the code provided. Single oneshot posts are encouraged, as there is little room for interaction. PM me if you have questions. For ideas, you may also want to PM the authors of other foreign characters.

There are no right answers save for what tangible I'm most interested in originality and your ideas, and will grade based on concept and writing style.

What I Have Noticed About Visiting Students

Salem Students
Salem students seem to be the most like us. I haven't met a whole lot of them, but the ones I have met seem to be really nice. They are friendly, out going, smart, hard working, and all that good stuff. It seems to me that they are the most like us. But I guess that is probably because they used to from England before they turned into America and fought us out of their business. But that's okay- I don't hold it against them. I rather like all of the Americans I have met. There is one boy who looks like Madam Nagde. I read a book about cowboys and indians once when I was younger. In it the Indians were the bad guys, but I don't guess it's true since Madam Nagde and that boy from Salem don't seem to be mean or vicious and they aren't running around scalping people.

Bowbatons
The girls from this school are all super duper pretty. It makes me jealous! It's like they are all graceful and poised and all those things that I'm not. They seem to be really concerned with appearances and have super neat accents. They are really posh.

Durmstrang
It's like a school full of Slytherins. They're all mean and vicious looking and super arrogant and don't really talk to anyone. It's a horrible place. Did you Professor Storm got fired from Durmstrang? Headmaster Eisenberg is pretty nice, though. He says that Professor Storm injured a bunch of students and then bent a tower and that's why he got fired. So I guess if teachers are that awful and mean and murderous, then the students must be, too. They teach Dark Arts there, as well. Which is just bad. So I would say that basically every Durmstrang person except the headmaster is an evil, dark witch or wizard.

In the year 2009 the Ministries of Magic in Britain, America, France and Germany Sweden Norway Scandyn Scandinavia decided they wanted to revive a traditional competition called the Tri-Wizard Tournament. It had been popular a few hundred years ago, and they had brought it back about a decade ago, only a student from Hogwarts called Cedric Diggory died and the famous Harry Potter nearly did when a dragon got loose and Voldemort tried to kill him.

Anyway, this time round they decided they would also let America play, and that meant that instead of three schools this time, it would be Salem, Durmstrang, Beauxbatons and Hogwarts. Hogwarts was chosen to host (again) which is probably more a political and financial move. My Dad who works for the Ministry reckons that it shows that Britain is a good host, a leader in magical education, because we can acomo acko accommodate so many guests and teach them all too.

I think its because this year there isn't just one student competing instead of lots. Like Professor Storm said to the Daily Prophet in the summer, the Goblet of Fire gets to pick from any of the Hogwarts students who apply, but it only gets to pick from the ones that the other schools bring. I guess the teachers could be quite good at picking who would be best, but they could be wrong. There's also the advantage that we have home game advantage, which can often work in favour with football, because there are lots of people to come and cheer on the team which makes them feel better.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be quite correct because after the first task in the Tetra-Wizard Tournament (I forgot to say that's what its called this year) we were in third place because Durmstrang won it and Salem came second. Beauxbatons came last, but they came last in the tournament ten years ago, so I guess that is quite normal.

As we don't yet know the final results of the second task, it is hard to make a guess at whether this trend will continue and Durmstrang will take home the trophy. I suspect they will though because they all seem to be a bit unhinged and really strong. They are probably all taking potions and things to help them, or using the dark arts. I think the dark arts should be banned from the tournament because we don't learn them. (Not that I think we should).

However Salem are really into sports so they might be very fit and healthy and last longer in a duel or something. Beauxbatons are quite artistic and nice to each other. I think they have just been brought up and taught to be nice people rather than really competitive which means they will be unable to win. I don't quite see a Salem girl trying to rip off the head of a Durmstrang seventh year and getting anywhere....
