Getting Your Grade
This test and individual grades are graded in one of two ways:

  • Reply to this thread.
Follow the instruction and form on how to complete this exam, and then reply to this thread with a role played post of your student taking the test. Based on that post, I will determine their grade for the test and then add it to their overall grade for the class.

    • and/or

    Send Sissel a PM.
Title your pm with "Year / Student Name" and then fill out the following form.
Code: [Select]
Student Name:
Requested Grade:
What have they done to earn this grade?:
Describe how they completed their exam:

  • Provide as much detail as possible on your student's performance, this will make it easier to determine a grade. If I feel it is necessary, I may question your reasoning, especially if your requested grade is in contrast to their character as previously exhibited in their threads at Hogwarts and lessons. Linked evidence to such posts are welcome.

Passing Grades
O - Outstanding; E - Exceeds Expectations; A - Acceptable

Failing Grades
P - Poor; D - Dreadful; T - Troll

A failed grade does not mean your character is in trouble but it would be good plot fodder for the next term.

Sissel had hoped he was getting through to the kids. The first years were an energetic and impressionable lot, luckily, and he believed their tours about the castle had kept them interested and excited for history, or at the very least help them navigate the castle and recognize the locations You Never Went To Under Any Circumstances, Or There Would Be Trouble.

"Right! Your fall projects are due today. Throughout the term you've been tasked with tracking down one of the portraits in the castle and interviewing them about their era of history and time at the castle. You also had to confere with at least two other portrait figures and at least one text resource to confirm the story, though more were encouraged."

"Let's see what everyone came up with. You never know what might appear again in your real final at the end of the year."

OOC: There are two ways to post in this thread. Your character could give an oral presentation or write an essay, using the code provided. Single oneshot posts are encouraged, as there is little room for interaction. PM me if you have questions

There are no right answers, short of established facts in canon. You are free to be creative in the blank spaces, thus a periphery name might suit you better than a well defined portrait in canon. I'm most interested in originality and your ideas, and will grade based on concept and writing style.

Name: Alexandra McGee
House: Gryffindor 1st Year[1]

Nestled in a small western English village was where Godric Gryffindor[2] was born and raised. Today, we call this place Godric's Hollow. In the 10th Century, Godric was born. He grew up to become a founder and professor of the school that we go to today, Hogwarts.

"They called me the best duellist of all time, ya' hear? Best of 'em all." Godric proudly states, notably changing the position of his hand on the hilt of his sword. It was intimidating to say the least, but the man was the best duellist in the 10th century.

"We started this school, and I chose my house wisely." He said, "I told 'em, "w'e'll teach all those with brave deeds to their name,' I told them my students would be the strongest, bravest, and most chivalrous." Godric went on to say, a proud twinkle in his eye as if he was remembering all of the students that he had taught the came from the Gryffindor house.

I also went to the famed portrait of Salazar Slytherin to ask his personal opinion of Godric. "He was a former.... colleague and friend at a time. We didn't share the same mindset as the other founders seemed to, allowing Muggle-borns at my school. Hah! The thought of allowing those filthy, hybrids in my halls..." Needless to say, I didn't finish the interview with him. But he did confirm that Godric and him had been friends at one point.

Instead, I sought out another founder, Helga Hufflepuff[3], who was actually really helpful. "Oh dearie, Godric was such a sweetheart. But not that anyone else ever knew, such a brave man to give up friendship and stick up for me. Salazar and I had fought many a time about allowing Muggle-borns entry... Godric and Rowena were always there for me to reason as to why we should allow them to attend here."

Basically, she confirmed my thoughts of her from what I had read in the library. She was kind and charming, and very accepting of everyone. I guess the book I had read had gotten everything exact, because the founders were turning out to be exactly as I had envisioned them.

I thought it best that I find another Gryffindor student for my last person that I could talk to. On the sixth floor, I found a girl that looked to be a Gryffindor. She was wearing a scarlet dress with gold embroidery, so I could only assume that she was showing house pride. Upon talking to her, I learned more about the beginning of the Gryffindor house.

"I was one of the first girls to be accepted as a Gryffindor," Lady Emma told me. "Most of us were treated differently, as we were women and women had no place as a brave or chivalrous Gryffindor. It was a boy's club. Most girls were Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, sweet and charming and intelligent. I didn't want to be like that, and the sorting hat realized this, and sorted me into Gryffindor."

"But Godric was accepting, most of the time the founders were accepting really..." she said, as if she was getting caught up in her memories. The young woman looked at me with a smile, "You must be a Gryffindor as well. I'm so very glad that the houses are diverse now, it's exactly what the school needed."

After I finished talking to her, I back traced and went back to Godric, who was polishing his sword for the billionth time. "Tell me, were you sorted into my house?" He asked, and I said that I had been. As if he could tell what had happened over the summer, he leaned back and looked at me approvingly, "Be careful young one. There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity, especially when one's life is on the line."
 1. I was sort of confused as to how to fill out the character name and name. Did you want something like our name, so for me it'd be Nina, and then our charrie, so then it'd be Lexi. I wasn't sure how to go about that...

Lexi pulled out her essay, the one she had worked so hard on and went to hand it to the Professor. She had truly enjoyed this project, even if she detested HoM a little bit. But Professor Jowd was definitely a good teacher. She hoped that she had worked hard enough to get a good grade on her project, but if she didn't, at least she learned a lot from talking to the portraits.

Name Alice Hunter
House and Year Hufflepuff First Year

For my History of Magic project, I had trouble finding a suitable portrait to interview. I felt somewhat stuck. I went to speak with Salazar Slytherin, but he wasn't interested in speaking with me. When I asked him for an interview, his direct quote was, "What are you? A hufflepuff? A mudblood I expect." When I continued to explain that I wasn't a muggleborn, and that I was a halfblood but that I respected muggles, he refused to comment.[1]

I had to find someone, and so, I went to the second floor, where I sat, and thought. "What are you doing, child?" A kind voice had called to me. That voice came from Anne Boleyn. Miss Bolelyn was born around 1501 to around 1507. She allowed me to interview her. She was queen consort of england, and the second wife to king Henry VIII.[2]

"They all thought that I was a witch. I wish I was. I wasn't however, I was a squib." She had told me. I was very surprised, and I wanted to learn more about her. She was the mother of Queen Elisabeth I. By the end of my interview with her, Miss Boleyn was tired, and did not want to continue to speak. However, before she left, I asked her how she passed away.

"I was executed" She said. "For adultery and some other things. Now, I must be going."[3] Miss Anne had to hurry off, and so did I. I wanted to find out more about her. So, I went to the library and further researched her.

After her, King VIII had four more wives. Out of her four children, only one survived. The another three died within 2 minutes of birth. She was killed. Her head was cut off. Her last words were prayers, which were, "To Jesus Christ I commend my soul; Lord Jesus receive my soul."

After researching this fine lady, I wonder what her life was like. She had a tough life, and I feel bad for her. It must be hard to lose your children. It must also be hard to be executed around the age of 35. Every time I pass by her portrait, I feel like I am obligated to wave. To let her know that though her life was hard, that she isn't alone. And that I think that she is a lovely woman, going through what she did.

I know that she has impacted me. Before I left, she told me one last thing. "No matter how people discriminate against you, no matter how they may pick at you, always remember that you are stronger, and that you will always will be." This may not mean much to others, but to me, it has impacted my life.
