Dear Professor Kesali,

Meeting you for the first time on Halloween, and subsequently on the 15th, was truly a pleasure.  I find your company to be engaging and worthwhile.  It appears, however, that I misunderstood your intentions.  Perhaps I read too much into your actions and not enough into you words, but it has become clear to me that you are not interested in pursuing anything more.  As you said, your position at the school must be very important to you and I'm sorry to have pushed you despite knowing it would pose a problem for you.

That day in Diagon Alley, you gave me something, a necklace.  It seems to be of value so I have enclosed it here.  I'll be honest, I thought about throwing it away because I was angry with you.  Seeing you at Miss St. James' party was confusing and frustrating.  I decided against it because  I would not want you to lose something as unique as this because you gave it to a stranger on a whim.

I hope I have not caused any undue concern.  Please feel free to contact me if you ever decide to build that art nouveau house you mentioned.  I will, of course, be happy to help in any way I can.

Sincerely,

Chaz Lawrence

Gale received the missive long after classes were over, and though the little artist wasn't far from his thoughts. After the party he hadn't the chance to truly take the time unwind and gather his thoughts. There were so many events, and though he had fun. He couldn't help but wonder if he'd made the right choice.

He found himself torn between the two, like black on white, right on wrong, and morning vs. night. But just seeing those little letters, those broken words, and heartache that seemed to be attached no matter how strong Chaz thought himself to be--made his own heart hurt.

At first he folded the letter and carried it around through a few other tasks, but when he couldn't stand it any longer he took to his desk to pen back.

My Darling Chester,

I had hoped to see you before I received this letter, but it appears that you my darling are far faster than I when it comes to jumping to conclusions. Though, you have ever right to be upset I can't help but wonder if I made a mistake at all. A gift is a gift, Pretty Boy, and I'll not accept it back. You don't have to wear it, and can give it to who you please. But know that in giving you this, you have taken a part of me with you. The thought saddens me to know that this beautiful gold doesn't hang around your neck, that my coin isn't over that passionate heart, but I suppose I will survive.

I'm afraid at this time I can not accept your offer to build me a home, because when I think of the house that Chaz built, I think of how I want to make you part of it. It gave me great pleasure to think of you sharing more than just coffee, but as I have said before there is little we truly know about one another. How was I to know it would end like this?

Forgive me if I have upset you in any way. It was never my intentions.

Very truly yours,

Nightingale
