[October 17th] The After Party (Ignatius) [M]

on September 22, 2012, 01:27:53 AM

Getting nights off was a rarity. Scheduling as an auror trainee was incredibly unpredictable. Every chance she got for some free time, Brett was going out. With her housemates, with friends, alone- depending on who was free and what she felt like doing. But tonight there had been a concert- Nola and the Knockturnals- in Diagon Alley. And Brett decided she wanted to go. She remembered the band from school. The drummer- Ignatius Prewett- had been a year ahead of her at Hogwarts. Brett had always had a little bit of a crush on him... But when you had three older brothers in your house, boyfriends were hard to come by.

The show had been an excellent one. And after it was over, people had started to mill out of the concert venue and down the street to one of the bars which was still open. Brett followed the crowd, glad to have a chance to cut loose. She would probably be regretting the hangover in the morning- especially if she had a particularly obnoxious task- but she was still young, and she wasn't going to squander her youth because of her auror training. Brett could do both. Be youthful and be a good auror- right?

A few shots of whiskey later, Brett found herself lubricated with some liquid courage. Spotting her old crush and housemate, she walked up to him with a bright smile. "Great show, Prewett," she said with enthusiasm. "I don't suppose you've got time for a drink?" Brett asked. "My treat." Brett shook her empty whiskey glass at him. "Firewhiskey?"

The show had been a good one that night.  Magnolia had been in rare form too, she had even refrained from stealing one of Iggy's drumsticks and then trying to keep up with him.  It helped that it was almost halfway between full moons, which was when he was at his best, or at least felt his best going in to the show.  It also meant he didn't feel a need to head home early with the first eager fan to throw herself at him after the show.  Instead he eventually followed the last remnants of the crowd to one of the still open bars.  He managed to lose Magnolia at some point to, she'd made up for a nearly sober show by chugging what had looked like half a bottle of firewhiskey near the end of the set.  It'd looked like her hair was on fire the last he saw her.

He was at the bar trying to get the bartender's attention when he heard his name from behind him.  "Thanks," He said turning.  "I never turn down a drink, and I suspect you'll have better luck getting his attention."  He said, shooting a glare at the bartender, who was still chatting up twin witches at the other end of the bar.   "You were in Gryffindor, weren't you? Abraham right?  Your brothers were all in Gryffindor too," and older than me, he thought.  Which was why he hadn't looked at her back then like he was now.  "It's been a while."

Brett grinned. Excellent! She dropped down in the seat next to him and leaned over the bar, motioning at the bartender with a wink. She managed to get two glasses and talked the bartender in leaving the bottle with them. "Takes a bit of womanly wiles," she said with a smirk before pouring two shots- one for herself and one for Ignatius. "Suppose I've got more than I thought I did." Then again, Brett was typically wandering around in scarlet robes these days, exhausted from training. Hard to be particularly feminine when you were sweaty and exhausted.

"Yeah. Brett Abraham." She was supposed to be the fourth son, after all. So, for some reason, her parents stuck with the name. Slapping on Jane as her middle name to distinguish her from being male. "Yup. All three in Gryffindor. We were pretty terrorizing to Hogwarts in our day, I'd guess." But Brett wasn't here to talk about her brothers. Reminding someone of the vicious tempers of the Abraham boys wasn't the way to go about flirting.

She nodded. "It has. A long while. More than a year at this point, isn't it? Always was a fan. You've only gotten better since Hogwarts..." Brett eyed him with approval as she said it. He'd graduated a year before her. Brett had been a little sad to see him go- but had promptly found herself distracted by Dax. She clinked her glass against his and downed her shot. "You're looking quite dashing since Hogwarts. Grown up a bit, yeah?" she said with a grin, winking at him.

Iggy laughed, "I'm glad you had enough to spare on my drink too."  He picked up the drink she poured and swallowed it all in one go, figuring he probably had a little bit of catching up to do with Brett.  "That's right, the four Abraham boys, except you weren't a bloke."  Most definitely not a bloke.  "Leave it to parents to saddle us with terrible names." He said with another laugh as he poured himself another drink.

"At least that long."  He said after a moment of thought.  "I would hope so.  Much more time to spend honing our skills."  And no having to get around school rules, though they'd run up against a few laws here and there.  "Wait, you mean I wasn't dashing back then.  I'm hurt.  Stabbed right here."  He held his hand over his heart.   "And here I'd been thinking that all my Gryffindor peers stared when I walked by."  He smiled, trying his best to look serious and not crack up.  "But just wait, come morning, when the hangover hits and the makeup is all smeared, not nearly as dashing.  Though still quite handsome, or so I've been told."

Iggy looked straight at her, "But you certainly have grown.  I just remember a boyish fifth year girl bent over books studying way too hard."  He drank and then poured himself another drink.  "But now, you're just ravishing."

Brett couldn't stop the snort that escaped when he said the four Abraham boys. It was mostly true. Brett lacked the necessary, biological equipment- but she always had been one of the guys growing up, and her brothers had learned to accept that. She played with them while growing up, and after entering Hogwarts had found little use for female friends (for the most part). "At least yours is gender appropriate," Brett offered. "Besides, I think Iggy is a rather cute name," Brett said as she crossed her legs, sure to brush hers against his as she did so.

She blushed a little as he teased her. "No- you were quite dashing, even at Hogwarts. But you know how it is.. three big brothers, one of them in your year... Doesn't make any use flirting until they were out of the picture." She wouldn't have put it past any of her brothers to kick someone's ass for trying to get fresh with her. Even if she had started it first. "They did stare," Brett assured him. "Men and women alike. Regular heart throb you were. Every girl wants to date the guy in the band. And drummer is higher up on the desirable totem pole than the bassist."

"Ah. I've been told the same thing," Brett said. "Though most guys seem to find it sexy when a girl's eyeliner is smeared. Haven't the foggiest how that's supposed to work. Course, you wake up with a girl in equally bad shape there's a simple enough solution, yeah? Just hop in the shower... together." Not that she had ever really done something like that. It was the Firewhiskey talking by this point. She was matching him- shot for shot. Brett wasn't about to be out-done by the guy she was trying to impress. She could keep up with the big boys, after all.

She let an uncharacteristically girly giggle when he called her ravishing. Ravishing. Nobody had called her that before! Why didn't Dax ever tell her she was ravishing? Why did it even matter? Iggy bloody Prewett was hitting on her. Gryffindor heart throb. Drummer of Nolia and the Knockturnals. And he was brooding, mysterious, damn good looking, and probably knew how to have one hell of a time. "I think that might be the best compliment I've ever gotten. I'll take it." She finished the glass she had just poured.

"Course, I still study hard," Brett old him. "Got into auror training," she told him proudly. "First time I've had to cut loose in weeks. You caught me on a good night, Iggy. I don't have anywhere to be or anyone to answer to until tomorrow."

Iggy smiled at the cute name comment, while ignoring the intentional leg brush.  "Brett suits you." He said simply, and not going off on his usual rant about Iggy having been a cute name a hundred years ago when his forebearers first started giving it over and over again to their sons.  He'd take gender inappropriate any day.  Though he'd have to make sure that he never let that tidbit of information get back to the band, they'd have a field day coming up with the most girly names they could for him.

"Heart throb you say? I might have noticed a few stares along the way."  Including a few from you, he added silently, he hadn't been completely oblivious to the girls and boys who had been interested back then.  He had even dated a few of them, and he was pretty sure that if he'd truly kept track those few relationships back at Hogwarts had probably been his longest.  "I don't think most of them want to date."  If his experience over the last year and a half or so and the number of unmentionables thrown at him was any indication, dating was definitely a second thought, which certainly had worked out for him.

"None of the women I've woke up next to ever seem to have a hair out of place.  Or a single smudge anywhere."  Well a few had, but a disturbing number seemed to wake up like they'd had a professional doing their makeup while they slept.  "I think maybe there is some secret beauty charm that locks it all in place.  Or maybe they just permanently transfigured their faces."

"You should definitely cut loose more often.  Would you like another drink?"  Iggy poured them both another shot of firewhiskey without waiting for her answer.  For him there was little sexier than a woman who could hold her drink, and it was far enough away from the full moon that he could drink as much as he wanted and he could still handle a hangover.  The closer he got to a full moon, the worse his hangovers were.  He'd always wondered if it was like that for other werewolves, but given he'd never made a point of befriending any he'd never had the opportunity to ask.  "I thought they locked all of you in a dungeon in the Ministry for the first year.  Glad they don't."  He said with a smile, as he swallowed down another shot.  This time he decided to leave it empty for a bit.  No reason to rush toward a drunken stupor.

Most of the girls now probably didn't want to date. There were a lot of people who would be happy just to spend a night with a wrock star. Bragging rights and all. No doubt he probably had his pick of the litter after a shower. Brett had seen a lot of really good looking people at the concert. Even now, as she glanced around the bar, she could find more than one that was a solid ten... And more than one who seemed to be waiting on Iggy to lose interest in talking to her.

Brett was lucky enough to have been a former housemate, though. Not just another groupie. So she had a leg up on what she was now considering her competition.

"They don't?" Brett asked. "Oh, I suppose there is a charm for that. Never considered it." Brett didn't usually wear a lot of make up so never really thought about that. Typically she put it on for a special occasion, and washed it off at home. Or she'd put on just a little to go to the office- didn't want to look a total mess when Eddie Pratt was puttering about. "Must be a bit creepy, waking up to a woman who looks like that. Maybe they get up and reapply before you wake up," Brett suggested, chortling. Women could be crazy like that.

If cutting loose more often gave her more of a chance to hang out with good looking guys from her past, she would have to consider it. He asked if she wanted another drink, and then her glass was full of fire whiskey again.

She waited on him to finish his, before she downed her own. Brett's head was swimming now, and she couldn't stop smiling. Her giggle when he suggested they were locked in a dungeon was probably a little too loud. "Can't say I've spent much time locked down in a dungeon the last few months," she said. Brett was more happy about than Ignatius was. "Just spent too much time in a little cubicle." And a lot of time in trouble. Brett wasn't exactly getting along with most of the more experienced aurors at the ministry.

"So tell me, Iggy, what's a wrock star like you do when he isn't on stage?" Brett asked. "Apart from waking up next to gorgeous women?"

Iggy wasn't sure that the idea of a woman waking up before her bedmate to put on makeup was all that funny.  Mostly he found it disturbing.  He preferred the idea of charms and transfiguration being the cause of the perfect hair and makeup come morning.  Unfortunately he wouldn't put it past them.  He would have to rethink the types he would take home after a gig, though it would have to wait until he wasn't saturating his brain with firewhiskey.  "Definitely something like that."  He said with a forced laugh.

"That's unfortunate, I kinda liked the idea of all the auror wannabees stuck in a windowless room." He chuckled, "Though I guess a cubicle would be worse.  Dodged a curse there."   Except he'd ended up with another curse.  "It's not all glamour, women, and the occasional man.  There is actually work involved.  New music, old music, Magnolia's drive to make each and every beat perfect when she's not dragging me off to some event to be her shield."  He finished off the firewhiskey in his glass, determined for the moment at least to keep up with Brett, but he held off refilling either of their glasses this time.  "You know, if you drink me under the table, you have to protect me from the wolves." He gestured, slightly larger than he'd intended, toward the women who were looking on way too intently.

Brett didn't even bat an eye when Iggy mentioned that there was the occasional man in his life. She knew that Dax liked the occasional guy. Brett didn't care what people did in their sex lives. It wasn't her business. (Unless she was involved with them, anyway.)  "Better story is to keep it all glamorous, though," she said with a grin. "Nobody likes to hear the truth about the hard work and the grit. Ruins the illusion."

Brett was pleasantly surprised when Iggy suggested that she could protect him from the "wolves". That was a pretty big indicator that this was going well- that her flirting wasn't totally lost on Ignatius. Unfortunately, though, Brett wasn't good at the whole being subtle thing. She had always been the sort to just tell a guy what she wanted. But she wasn't really sure what she was after from Iggy. The alcohol was clouding her judgment at this point. More than clouding, really.

"I'm capable of fighting them off. I bet these witches couldn't take me in a duel... or in a fight." Brett had learned how to throw punches from her brothers. "Course, the only way to keep you protected for any extended period of time I'd have to take you home with me." Wow. That was... forward. Her brain back tracked. No, that wouldn't work. Especially since she had to share a room with Dax. "Or see you back home. I'd hate for you to get mauled on the sidewalk."

"I'd love to see that," Iggy said with a smirk.  Confidence was sexy, and it wasn't likely to be a bluff either, she probably could take them all on, which was even better.  "Though it is probably better that you not.  We'd probably both end up in Witch Weekly's gossip column, and I hate when that happens."  Or at least when it was less flattering gossip like that a cat fight erupted between an Auror trainee and a bunch of witches over him.  They'd have a field day over that.  Time for another drink for sure he thought before pouring himself a double and offering to do the same for Brett.

"I'd hate to get mauled on the street, but before you start dragging me off to one of our flats, you might ask if I want to go."  He tried to keep himself from smiling, but with the alcohol he wasn't suppressing it very well.  "The answer is yes though, and it doesn't have to be just for protection."  The answer was definitely a yes, made all the more so by the fact that given her quick turn from inviting him back to her place to making sure he go to his she either didn't want to follow the flirting to its natural, to him anyways, conclusion or wasn't sure if she wanted to.  Both of which since the band had begun to get more popular he hadn't seen much from the those who approached him and bought him drinks.

Brett snorted. Imagine her face plastered in Witch Weekly. "Got a feeling I'd probably get in trouble at work, too. Getting in trouble for hexing a bunch of strange women is probably against policy." It still sounded odd to talk about work and rules and regulations. At Hogwarts she hadn't been a trouble maker by any means- but having fun was something she did regularly. Being an auror trainee could really cramp your style.

She drank the new shot that he offered- not wanting to be out done. Even so she was pretty much done drinking by this point. With the double shot he'd given her, that put her to having eight shots in a short period of time. The bottle of firewhiskey the bartender had left had a huge dent in it by this point.

Brett gave a mock pout when he said she ought to ask first. She could tell he was teasing, but a lady who jutted out that bottom lip at just the right time seemed to always get exactly what she wanted. She cackled when he said it didn't have to be just for protection. "Oi, better not get any ideas Iggy," she waggled her eyebrows at him suggestively. "Unlike most of the women who escort you home from the bar, I'm a lady." Brett tried to give him a serious look- but failed. She laughed again. The idea of herself being a lady was hilarious.

"So where's your flat, then?" Brett asked. "Bit too predictable for you to be living down on Knockturn, yeah?" If he did, walking him home might be a conflict of interest. Oh well.

Iggy snorted when Brett said she was a lady.  "A lady, really.  I mean a woman, most certainly." He said as his eyes took a detour south before returning to her face.  He smiled, "Oh yes, most certainly a woman.  But come on, last I went to a proper ball, I didn't see any ladies throwing back shots of firewhiskey like it was water."  Well technically there had been one at that ball doing exactly that, but she had been Iggy's date that night, so she didn't really count.  Though she would probably smack him for saying so, and now that he thought about it Brett might decide to smack him as well.  Thankfully the alcohol would dull any pain as it had already dulled his thoughts.

"Would you want me to live down Knockturn?  I could probably arrange something.  A couple owls and I could find us a loaner for the night."  He laughed, though he probably could assuming he could hold a quill and write something legible.  "No, my flat's out among the muggles.  A nice little walk from The Leaky Cauldron."

Unlike most women- Brett wasn't offended at Ignatius' reaction to claiming she was a lady. And she liked the way he looked at her, taking notice of her figure. Brett wasn't used to guys looking at her like that- and she liked it. To Dax she was pretty much another bro. And apart from him... Well, apart from him, Brett didn't have a whole lot of experience with guys. This was all new to her. And as far as Brett was concerned, she was doing a damn good job. Ignatius Prewett- the drummer from Nola & the Knockturnals- was taking her back to his flat. Nobody would believe it. And yes, she intended to brag.

"You're just jealous, because I've had more shots than you've had," she said with a grin, laying a hand on his wrist. When she pulled it away, she dragged her fingertips lightly against his skin, still smiling. "To think, Ignatius Prewett finds himself out-drunk by a girl." Even if Brett really wasn't much of a girl... And never had been particularly feminine.

She shook her head. "No- living down Knockturn might be a problem." As an auror trainee, going home with someone who lived in Knockturn was probably a poor career decision. She was making enough of those without adding a man to them. (Unless that man was Eddie Pratt.)

"Among the muggles. Sounds exciting." Brett poured herself a final shot, and threw it back, then slipped off of her bar stool. "If it's a nice walk, we should go while I can still maneuver in these damned heels." Even now she was a bit unsteady. Brett very rarely wore high heels. She was a sandals and sneakers kind of girl. She pulled some coins out of her pocket, and motioned the bartender over. Brett paid for their bottle of firewhiskey and motioned at Ignatius. "Well come on then, Ignatius. Take me home." She winked at him, then headed for the door. Brett put an extra sway in her hips to entice him to follow right behind.

"Jealous?" Iggy laughed enjoying her touch, "I don't mind being out-drunk by a woman."  He made sure to stress the woman, though he kept his eyes on her face this time despite the fact she seemed to have enjoyed his appreciation of her.  "Besides, if we kept pushing ourselves to out drink the other, it will be difficult to make it back to my place."  And that certainly wouldn't be a good end to the evening.

"Not as exciting as living next to a hag, but it has it's perks.  Like not living next to a hag." He watched her as she stood and paid the bartender.  Iggy smiled when she winked and made for the door.  It was certainly a nice view.  And he certainly wasn't going to make her ask him twice.  He jumped off his stool and in a few quick steps caught up to her before one of the other women in the bar could try to move in since Brett had walked off.  "Next time give a guy a little warning before you walk off like that.  Its hard to decide to sit and watch or stand and follow with no warning and a few shots."

"I thought it would be more dramatic," Brett told him with a laugh as he quickly caught up to her. "Course looks like you took the time to do both. Hope the view was worth it." Brett snaked an arm somewhat possessively through his as they made their way out the door of the bar. She wanted to be sure the girls knew this was not an open invitation. It was a private party.

Once outside of the bar, she steered them toward the Leaky Cauldron before loosening her grip. "At least it's a nice night for a walk. Sky is clear." She inhaled deeply, and looked up at the sky. The stars and moon lit the way toward the cauldron- where they could empty back out into muggle London.

Her head was still swimming, and her steps were a little unsure. She would have been weaving more if she hadn't kept her arm connected to Iggy's. "So is it just you at the flat?" Brett asked. She wanted to be prepared if she was going to find herself in an apartment full of his bandmates and/or friends.
