Physical Description: Maxen has gracefully been blessed with the Whitman good looks. His soft blonde hair and deep blue eyes are trademark of his family’s heritage. At his mother’s request, he keeps his hair lengthy, swishing it to the side so it doesn’t bother his face. He often has a gleam in his eye that foretells his mischievousness. His skin is pale and blemish free. He has soft pink lips, with dazzling white teeth, perfectly spaced in his mouth. Just above his lips, on the left side, lies a beauty mark. His ears are slightly larger than average (but honestly, what child doesn’t have big ears?).

Giving an average height at this point would be rather pointless, as it seems that puberty has decided to strike the boy hard and fast, causing him to grow lanky and tall. His voice is starting to deepen, causing it to squeak and break when he gets excited. Though he couldn’t care less about fashion, he usually looks rather put together, even outside of his school uniform.
Personality Description:
The youngest Whitman is a terror in every way. Where the other members of his family keep their negative traits more discreet, Maxen simply doesn’t care. He has a very strong dislike for anyone that doesn’t fit into his narrow-minded view of what a witch or wizard should be, a dislike that carries into his own family. For the people he cares about (the very short list), Maxen is very protective and caring, in his own way. He’s an extremely independent and headstrong individual, who has his own mind and isn’t afraid to voice his opinion.

Maxen gets bored rather easily and likes to keep himself entertained by doing whatever he wants, regardless of rules. He rather much stays in trouble with anyone in an authoritative position in his life. Though he never completes classwork, he seems to excel in all his classes, other than his bad attitude and rebellious nature. Like many Slytherin, Maxen is sneaky, and could very easily get away with things, except for his need to gloat and belittle his victims.

The young Slytherin has no sense of right and wrong; good and evil. He sees that there’s too much grey area, no firm definition. He is what people may call a ‘prankster’ though he doesn’t prank for fun, nor are his ‘pranks’ for a laugh. He gets even with people that have wronged him, or people that he just doesn’t like (a rather long list). He gets pleasure in watching other people suffer, as long as that suffering doesn’t carry over into his life.

On the other side of the spectrum, Maxen can be very helpful and fun with his friends. He has a great sense of humor (though usually it’s at someone else’s expense) and has a laugh that seems to lift the spirits of the people around him. He cares deeply for his mum and would never think of acting improper toward her (especially as she’s the one that keeps him out of serious trouble).
History:
To successfully tell you the story of Maxen Oleander Whitman, one must first step into the pensieve and see the time before his conception. Joshua Whitman, a pureblood wizard of the Whitman clan, married Eloise Grumman, a pureblood witch of the Grumman clan. The Whitman family (at least Jos’ branch) were upstanding citizens, with respectable jobs within the magical community, whereas the Grumman’s seemed to be of a more sinister nature. It’s rumored that the Grumman clan integrated with upstanding magical families to take the heat from their family name, who were greatly involved in the reign of You-Know-Who.

Two children came before young Maxen: Maeve and Carys, both ladies, and both upstanding members of the family. Maeve graduated from Hogwarts in Slytherin House and holds a position as the curatorial aide at the National Museum of Wizarding History and Carys is an intelligent 6th year Ravenclaw.

Maxen, poor Maxen, was trouble from the moment of his birth, with an intense and lengthy labor. It was apparent, early in Maxen’s life, that he took after the Grumman half of his life, endearing him to his mother and ostracizing him from his father, who wanted an upstanding heir to the Whitman legacy. He was a troublemaker, even as a toddler and took to calling his sister Carrots, as they’re his least favorite vegetable and she’s his least favorite sister (oh the logic of a three year old).

Maxen never hesitated to torment his sister, constantly putting random creepy crawlies in her clothes, her bed, even her food. He left Maeve alone, pretty much, since she didn’t bother him like Carrots did. Carys was always telling on Maxen, getting him into all kinds of trouble with his father, and Maxen quickly learned to resent her, a feeling that only grew stronger as the two grew older.

As he matured, his harmless pranks began to become more sinister. He started Hogwarts with a bad reputation preceding him, since Carrots had been at the school 4 years before he entered. He was sorted into Slytherin before the Sorting Hat even had a chance to grace his scalp. He did very well in classes, despite his negative attitude and unacceptable behavior. In his very first year, he managed 32 detentions and was almost suspended on various occasions.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:
Maxen is a sneaky and slimy pureblood. He is intelligent and cunning, though it’s sometimes masked by his impassiveness and snarky attitude. He’s opinionated and egotistical, with an ample amount of arrogance to go with it.
Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Maxen is a ratty little thing. He’s a terribly nasty piece of Slytherin juiciness. He dislikes everyone that doesn’t fit into his personal views of what a pureblood society should be, which is rather skewed, since he’s only 13 and doesn’t completely understand the workings of wizarding society.
