[November 30] Extra Credit and Tutoring [All Years]

OOC: This is the brainchild of the c-box, any and all are welcome.

Office of Professor Kesali
Dinner Hour--Curfew

Nightingale, enjoyed his time away from his classrooms, but now the Yule season coming quickly he didn't want any of his students to fall behind. So dressed in probably his most immature attire he settled into his office and waited to see if any would join the extra credit session, but this wasn't about him--he just needed to be here to help and supervise. Why not sport his own House for a change?

It wasn't a normal class, nor really a class at all, but he had asked any of the higher students to come help out those below them in act of charity and good will. He wouldn't call out names in class to those he knew suffered through the spells, but he would venture to slip them carefully handwritten notes to suggest they attend.

You do not have to, Ma petite, but I would suggest it.

To his NEWT level class he offered the chance to earn a few extra points if they would attend and help, plus feed them his homemade potato soup and french bread.

In his office there were a few cozy seats scattered around, a few random objects for the Charms they might need help with all align on a table, but the table in the center of the seating area was filled with various treats and snacks. He baked when he was upset, it was a habit started when he was younger, and on the road they didn't have access to many ovens so he learned to cook over a fire. But now with infinite space he was supplied well.

"Come in. Help yourself. Take a seat and get comfortable."

Winifred was getting better at Charms. Ever since Professor Kesali had come to Hogwarts, she had liked the class a bit more. He was a nice professor. Last year the Charms professor had been so very short tempered with her. A mean old codger, really. Just like Ignan. they had been in cahoots to make her life horrible. But now that the Hufflepuff girl was armed with a good and proper wand, a lot of helpful tutoring from fellow fourth year Zoe, and a work ethic that had come out of no where- she was getting better.

Better wasn't good, though. And when the professor had mentioned a charms tutoring session, Winifred knew she was going to go. She needed all of the help she could get. So just after dinner, she headed to the professor's office.

Coming through the door, Winifred saw that she was the first person to arrive. "Hello professor!" she greeted brightly, eyes lighting up at the sight of the treats. "Oooh!" Immediately she picked up something sweet and then found a seat, settling in. She wondered how this tutoring session was going to go. Well, she hoped. But since she hadn't seriously injured Zoe, Winnie was confident she could keep that up for Professor Kesali.

If it wasn't for Winnie, Ambrose would have not found his way to Professor Kesali's office. He'd have found an excuse for what to with his Monday night. He slunk into the room cautiously behind his best friend.

Looking from her great enthusiasm to have something to eat, to the Professor in his room, Ambrose paused in the doorway, weighing up his courage to enter. Go now, and he could save himself an evening of time, effort, irritation and his face. But he'd let Winnie down, show he was a coward to get so far and leave, and also not make up for some horrific marks.

His face slanted into a disgruntled frown without realising it was observed, and with a sigh he entered the room, mumbling a greeting without meaning it, and taking a perch near to Winnie.
"If I can't do it, I'm going." He told his best friend. "Its bad enough in class looking like an idiot without having to do it on an evening too." He folded his arms and stared resolutely at a point on the floor between them and Kesali's desk.

"Miss Oliver, welcome." Gale smiled as she just mad herself at home. Her witty, fun, and bubbly personality would get her places when her magic could not--this he was certain. Her smile was contagious in the way that so few truly were, and Winnie always had a way of charming the whole class...with her personality. He wasn't surprised to see her here though, she was certainly behind, and as much as it pained him to admit it there wasn't much he could do otherwise. He couldn't pass her, no matter how darn darling she was, but tempting her with baked goods and a few private lessons? Perhaps this would do the trick.

As a fellow Hufflepuff he couldn't help but favor her, despite how often he preached against how it didn't matter what they were in school--that what mattered was how they got along, and how their marks landed them.

"Mister Pepper, please. Help yourself." He eyed the boy, "Have some tea. Slip your shoes off. Get comfortable. This isn't as strict as classes. And..." He smiled, "I'm proud of you for coming." That had to be hard to face, but it did show character.

Addison was always, quite frankly, willing to do extra work. It may have been the nerdy Ravenclaw part of her, but she rather enjoyed it. For that matter, she rather enjoyed being called a nerdy Ravenclaw, but that was an entirely different matter. Considering her muggle upbringing, she had been rather happy in any success that she managed in any magical class. Typically, she would have to work harder than some of her classmates, and it may have to take her a little bit more time. But, she certainly managed. It must have been the perfectionist in her.

When she heard about the Charms tutoring time, Addison had been skeptical. She didn't think she was doing that bad in class. Perhaps Kesali thought that she needed extra help, or that she needed extra work in managing the necessary spells. She did have to admit that she questioned her way of casting spells, and her ability to actually do the work. That was her insecurities talking, leading her to be less self-confident. Yes, the nerdy Ravenclaw was rather insecure.

But, if Kesali was willing to give extra credit for going, she wouldn't mind. For that matter, he had even mentioned that there would be snacks. How could she possibly pass that up?

It didn't take her that long to arrive at Kesali's office in the Eastern Tower. After knocking on the door, Addison entered the room. "Professor," she greeted the Charms Professor. "Winnie, Ambrose," she greeted her fellow fourth years in the room. She sat down in one of the chairs, which so happened to be near what appeared to be a rather delicious looking muffin. Giving the muffin a sideways glance, she picked it up and took a bite out of it.

Imari didn't take Charms this year, but she thought she might take it next year, so when she heard of Professor Kesali's tutoring session going on after dinner she decided it might be in her best interest to check it out.  She first went to her dorm and dropped off her bag, changed out of her uniform, and as a last thought, grabbed one of her muggle notebooks and a pen and walked slowly up to the fifth floor.

Opening the door she saw a few students already there, she looked at the professor and said, "Hello Professor Kesali," and she took a seat in the middle of the room.  Opening her notebook she began to doodle since she didn't have the book to read.  Her mind wasn't really on the subject, truthfully, she was just in here because she was caught up on her homework and needed something to do to kill the time.

A lady did not jump at the chances she was given. Ligeia's legs had probably never sprung her upwards unless to climb stairs. She had jumped off, or rather stepped off heights before, provided her parasol was open to slow her decent. Regardless, when Professor Kesali had hinted the need for extra mentors at a Charms reviewal Ligeia was there like the turning worms that infected a recently buried corpse.

Ligeia's term long one sided romance towards her cultural counterpart Charms professor did not have many instances to have the passions burnt off. He was frequently away from the castle plenty of nights or, most alluring, was brooding alone somewhere. Classes and other school gatherings left nothing of intimacy since their dance at the Halloween ball.

Nonetheless, Ligeia was going to be there as a Prefect and to support the most fascinating and handsome professor to ever grace the halls of Hogwarts, as she sense some degree of animosity between her Head of House and Kesali, which was just tragic, the kind of tragedy Ligeia might be able to do something with.

But duty before pleasure, she aimed to help any student in need of help with their Charms casting. Ligeia moved her wand very gracefully and as such was a top performer in her NEWTs.

"Tell me professor," she asked, on one side of her chest gleaming prefects' badge and the other the waxing crimson and fuzzy monogram she had on all her clothes, "did you have a plan of review or was it flexible to whatever each student needed help with?"

Being a first year Jack did not want to miss a chance like this. He scurried down the hall after dinner, almost knocking over some older boys. "Sorry" he shouted until he could no longer hear them mumbling about him. With Jack knowing only a few charms from class he needed all the help he could get. He began to run out of breath by the 4th floor and decided that he would take it slowly until he reached his destination. He assumed that since it was extra credit there would be older students and he did NOT want to look desperate and too over eager.

Arriving at Nightingale Kesali office, thanks to some help from some 6th years, he peeked through and saw mostly older kids. "Crud" he thought, " It's okay were all here for the same reason, try to have fun." He finally built up enough courage to enter. Slowly opening the door he saw a few eyes turn to him but as many as expected. Seeing the plate of desserts quickly emptying Jack grabbed one and sat down at a table alone.

"Welcome, welcome." He smiled as the other three entered, and seated them like a gentleman should. His darling counterpart had become his shadow, and he adored her so--Ligeia was one in a million he was certain.

"Thank you for coming, Miss Canterbury, and actually...We are having a bit of trouble with the banishing charm." He was so proud of this Perfect, and often expressed how heartbroken he was going to be when she graduated. At every meeting he could the gushed about her progress, and jumped at the chance to be near her. They were kindred spirits, and kid red souls.

"I think we could all use a demonstration please," He sat up a few apples,  (This time without the worms) for Ligeia to banish.

"But first let me introduce you all in case you have not met Miss Ligeia Canterbury, a Ravenclaw Perfect, and one of my very favorite students. Mister Pepper. Miss Oliver. It would be smart of you to watch her very closely. Miss Rockwell. You must be here for the extra credit, because you are doing just fine." Oh how precious they were.

A new face caught his attention as Imari Nichols entered the room, and Gale smiled sweetly to her.

"Good evening, I've not had you in class yet have I? I'm Professor Kesali," He extended his pale hand to her, and kept a rather pleased look when he continued, "Welcome and please help yourself." Dressed the way he was he looked more like one of the students and less like the thirty year old mentor he was supposed to be.

"Good evening," He spoke to the much smaller boy. The one who entered and sat alone. He seated himself across the table from John, and put his chin on his hands to study the younger boy, "And who might you be?"

Seeing the professor walking up to Jack and sitting near was kind of surprising. Jack wasn't the kind to stand up and introduce himself to older students. So instead he smiled shyly and quickly said," Hi I'm Jack" almost at that instant he shook the professor's hand and recoiled slowly. He felt as though tonight would be a night to remember. Probably being one of the youngest he felt a little intimidated by everyone else but soon realized after the friendly gesture that Jack would be fine. He slowly became more comfortable as the professor stood up, coming to conclude that everyone there is here to get help and he is one of them.

"Jack." Gale smiled again, "Welcome. I'm glad you can join us." He let the other students start, but set his sights on this boy. He wanted to know more about him, "Are you enjoying your first year so far? How are your classes going?" He cared greatly, and if this boy was from Hufflepuff? Well..that just made him like him more.

"Well..." Jack began to answer the first question but after realizing that everyone else has started he realized that the professor was getting to know Jack. " My classes are great, I really am a little homesick though but being able to roam around Hogwarts has gotten the homesick thoughts out of my head." Jack began to like this teacher, but he really wanted to start like everyone else. He gestured for the professor to come closer and asked him," I really want to learn the summoning charm and what it summons."

"I can understand being homesick. I am often much the same. But when I am I just go to the forests, I was born in the thick of them, and feel most at home in the arms of an old oak." Gale did lean in closer, and tried to mask the affectionate laughter that threatened a release,

"Well, Ma Petite, unfortunately you will have to wait until your forth year to start that one, but perhaps practice your levitation?" From the inside of his sweater he pulled his wand, and indicated for the boy to do the same.

"Watch my hand hmm?" He started the motion, and wouldn't give the boy the words until he had it right.

It went in a falling circle motion.

Winifred was glad that Ambrose had come along. He needed some help, too. They used to be the hopeless duo. But... she was doing better lately. Winnie wanted Ambrose to have that feeling, too. "Don't be so negative, Ambrose," she chided him quietly. "A positive attitude really helps.

She offered a wave to fellow fourth year Addison when she was greeted. And Winifred had to admit she was a little bummed to see a Slytherin in the room. Winifred still didn't trust Slytherins at all. They were all evil, terrible, awful things. Them and the Durmstrang kids and Professor Storm were equated to Run Away From in Winifred's mind.

Winnie watched as more people entered. And kept a close eye on the Ravenclaw prefect who demonstrated the banishing charm. Winnie hadn't really practiced that particular charm yet. And it sounded like it had a lot of potential to go very, very wrong.

But the professor's attention was diverted by a first year- one who Winifred recognized as a fellow Hufflepuff. She wondered what the set up of this tutoring session would be like. How structured. Winifred had the attention span of nothing- and it wouldn't take her long to be incredibly distracted.

She gently elbowed Ambrose after the professor continued to focus his attentions  on helping the first year, and offered him a smile. "I'll help you as much as I can. I've been doing loads better since I started tutoring with Zoe this year. It's not so hard if you really put your mind to it. I promise."

Jack was remembering his last visit into his woods at home. He could begin to relate to this teacher. A little disappointed that he couldn't cast the summoning charm until his fourth he slumped for a second, but quickly got over it. Realizing that the professor motioned for jack to pull out his wand he obliged and began to watch him preform the levitation charm. He knew how to cast this charm but not as good as most students he decided that review is perfect for him right now and began to imitate the professor. He quickly remembered that it wasn't a downward oval but a circle. Jack began to appear like he got and was ready to rejog his memory of how to recite."I think I'm ready"  he spoke, still repeatIng the motions. He saw out of the corner of his eye 2 students that appeared to want the professor. Jack stopped his motions and whispered "I think your wanted"
