    McGonagall Returns to Hogwarts!

    • With tragedy striking Herschel Reid’s family, he is forced to step down, making way for the return of former revered Headmistress, Minerva McGonagall. This leaves many wondering if the top position at Hogwart’s is cursed! Minerva seeks out deputy headmaster, Ignan Storm, to get a feel for the “lay of the land”. Also upon her return, she reconnects with old friends and begins to get to know others on her staff as colleagues rather than students.

November classes have been yielding some interesting happenings. In 4th year runes, students are making presentations connecting runes to the school. As always, Hooch has her hands full with her flying classes, split up into Hufflepuff & Slytherin Flying or Gryffindor and Ravenclaw Flying. Naughty students are detained for Charms detention while the 1st Year DADA lesson is joined by Headmaster Eisenberg of Durmstrang. Meanwhile, the NEWT DADA class revisits the topic of casting the Patronus charm. He also meets with recent grads from Hogwarts to see about them mentoring some current students. Seminars are also in full swing with Potions, Tarrot Reading and Legillimency/Occulmency on the docket.

Quidditch teams are doing what they can to have a chance at the House Cup. The rag-tag Hufflepuff team gets a new new Captain and a new match between Ravenclaw V. Slytherin is sure to be a fierce battle.

    TetraWizard Tournament

    • The second tournament task begins sans an audience except for those following on Wizarding Wireless Network. The Champions for the four schools have their hands full after choosing tunnels to journey through. Durmstrang pursues KNOWLEDGE, Salem seeks WEALTH, Hogwarts reaches for  GLORY and Beauxbatons may forever be plagued by BEAUTY.

In addition to the Dragon Pox debacle coming to Salem, the students of Beauxbatons head out in search of Dumbledore’s grave on the first of the month in honor or their holiday, LaToussaint

    Wizarding Society, et al

    • The return of Liadán O’Morain to the forefront of Wizarding Society is not without its struggles. Early on in the month, she clashes with Oscar Whitman about return of a cufflink, but really moreso about the cool manner in which their relationship ended. To help improve her image in social circles, she also extended an olive branch to Dolly St. James.
Parties seem to be in season! A mixed crowd has convened at Flynn Hughes’ house for some fun, while society’s elite is helping a certain popular novelist celebrate her birthday. House calls are also a means of passing time and gaining new information.

A life of crime seems fashionable these days with everything from gambling to smuggling to kidnapping being in the works.

    Flashing Back to Halloween

    • October may seem just like yesterday, but Halloween celebrations will not be easily forgotten for some. Diagon held its annual party for adults. The younger adult crowd stopped by the Radford House for the party thrown by those who live there. And the students of Hogwarts partied it up as usual for their annual Halloween ball

    Absit Omen News

    • Major Roles Rules Update

August brought with it an AO discussion about how we can make the rules about Major Roles (like Headmaster, Minister, Prefects, etc) more clear and more fair.  It was wonderful to hear so many helpful opinions and the Curators announced an update to the rules.  From now on, when a major role opens up, you'll see an announcement on twitter, and recently opened major roles will be announced in the Fortnight Fliers.

      C-Box Mods

At the fine suggestion by a member, we were able to put together a C-Box Mod team.  C-box mods (now orange in the c-box) are empowered to help keep the c-box a supportive, positive and friendly place to build community and talk about AO!  Please be sure to cooperate with the mods if they ask you to change the subject or refrain from certain language.

      Signature Sizes

Character signatures can be a fun way to add some color and flavor to your posts, show more about who your character is, or create an easy reference for who you play.  But there are some limits.  No animated gifs allowed, the signature must be a representation of your characters, and the maximum area is 200px tall by 600px wide, which includes the space taken up by both text and pictures.  Please be sure your signature follows the rules, or you may get a reminder PM.

Sometimes it's not easy to fit in everything you want to - let's help each other out! Post your own signature codes for others to use or modify.  Feel free to post as many as you like.

      Staff Changes

August brought a few more adjustments to the staff.  Welcome Erika back to the Curators, and a bright new welcome to Kit.  We have complete faith in their ability to serve the members of AO.  Please feel free to approach them with questions or concerns.

Also, we want to thank everyone for their offers to help over the summer. We've been approached by many members who had time and talent to share with the AO community.  And as of September we are happy to say that at this point - we are completely well-covered!  We no longer have anything more to delegate out to Aides.  However, we always need more AO Ambassadors - our team of friendly AO writers who are ready and at the ready to help both new and returning members get a foothold and find plots.

Want to discuss this update? It is posted in News & Announcements.
