[Nov. 20]In order to succeed, one needs chocolate[OPEN]

on September 08, 2012, 06:56:17 AM

Two hours after dinner and Trystan was bored.  Sure, he could be the typical Ravenclaw and be up in his dorm studying every book he owned, but that was no fun.  It wasn't that close to curfew so he slipped out of the common room and started wandering the halls. He wasn't paying attention to where he was going until he looked up and saw the tapestry with fruit on it that supposedly led to the kitchens.  He'd never been in there, but he'd heard from people who had been, that the house-elves were extremely generous and even ecstatic to have visitors they could wait on.

He hesitantly lifted his arm until his hand hovered above the pear.  With a glance left and right he tickled the piece of fruit and was admitted into the kitchens of Hogwarts.  What he'd heard about the kitchens didn't even cover half of what was actually in here.  Dinner was two hours ago and still house-elves bustled back and forth doing small menial tasks.  Every so often one of them would disappear and Trystan was a little jealous that the tiny creatures could do that inside the castle walls where everyone else had to step outside the gates to do so.

He reached a small wooden table close to the wall and sat down.  Trystan was lucky not to have been noticed yet, but the moment he sat down no less than five elves trotted up to him and asked if they could get him something.  At first, Trystan was going to ask for something easy, but after they'd gotten him chocolate bavarian creme eclairs and potato chips, he decided to ask for something he hadn't had in awhile because it wasn't normally served as a dessert after dinner.  "Er, could I have some chewy chocolate chip cookies and a tall glass of milk."

It was kind of girly to him, to want to dip cookies in milk, but after the elves brought him a large platter full of cookies and a Hagrid-size cup of milk, he couldn't stop himself.  He dipped the first cookie in the milk and pulled it out, letting the excess drip back into the cup and then shoved the whole thing in his mouth.  Relishing the taste of his first chocolate chip cookie since the last holiday, he leaned back against the wall and closed his eyes.  When he finished chewing he sat up and grabbed another one.  He kind of wished he'd invited someone to come along, cookies and milk were no good eaten alone.  Now he wanted someone to talk to.

It kind of reminded him of a book his mother read to his little brother before bed, "If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to want some milk to go with it." But in Trystan's situation it was, "If you give a growing boy a cookie, he's going to want some company to go with it."  Now he just had to wait, because there was no way he was going to carry that huge platter of cookies out of the kitchens and up to the dorm, he'd never make it there.

Kelvin was hungry.  He'd screwed up and instead of working for an hour on essays he'd spent nearly three hours working, and he'd worked right through dinner.  The problem with hiding out in the library to get some work done was that there was no one around to break his concentration long enough to realize it was dinner time.  Good news, he was nearly done with everything that was due the next week.  Also good news was that he had managed to get the location of the kitchens out of an older student during his second year.  Granted it had been mostly cause he'd been complaining about missing dinner and subsequently starving, but Kelvin knew its location so after packing up his belongings he'd gone down to the kitchens.

Tickling the pear, he grasped the handle of the green door and entered the kitchens.  He called out to the first house elf he saw asking for a sandwich.  A couple of the elves scurried off around the kitchen looking happy to be asked for more food.  He turned to the side to sit and wait and saw an older Ravenclaw boy sitting at the wooden table with a large plate of cookies.  Apparently Kelvin wasn't the only one looking for a late evening snack.  He was pretty sure the other boy was a seventh year, if only because he was able to put a name to nearly all the fifth years and most of the sixth years.  The seventh years not so much.  "Hi." He started walking over.  "Just grabbing a sandwich."  Which he probably knew since he hadn't exactly kept his voice down asking the house elves for one.  "I missed dinner."  He held up his bag, why else would a Ravenclaw miss a meal.

Trystan looked up as the door to the kitchens opened and he tensed for a minute before realizing it wasn't a professor, just another student.  Getting a better look at the boy he realized he was a Ravenclaw like himself, and looked to be about his brother's age. "I've done that." he told the boy when he'd said that he'd missed dinner.  Trystan had missed dinner quite often in his 2nd and 4th years because he was struggling to keep up with his mother's demands that his grades be kept perfect, and his incessant need to prank someone.  That was before he'd figured out that if he got others to do the pranking, he'd be detention free, and able to get all his work done.

"Grab a seat, Kelvin, is it." He didn't know the boy personally, but he made it a point to at least know all the Ravenclaw students names, that way if he was ever in a situation like this, he would know their name and could strike up a conversation.  "I once was in the library so long that the librarian had to wake me up and toss me out."

"Want a cookie?"

"Yeah, it is." Kelvin said as he dropped his bag next to the table and sat down across from the older boy.  He always found it strange when someone knew his name when he didn't know theirs.  Which was strange in itself since Kelvin had plenty of times found himself being unknown while knowing the other person's name.  "Sorry, I don't know your name."  He grabbed a cookie from the plate after being offered.  No reason not to start a late dinner with a cookie, especially since the elves wouldn't care what he started with.  They tended to be plenty happy as long as someone was eating and enjoying their food.

"I've never fallen asleep in the library.  I'd rather not wake up with the librarian in my face."  That seemed like the makings of a nightmare to him.  Though truthfully it would probably be less embarrassing than when Connor found him asleep over a book in the common room.  It was never particularly fun for Kelvin when he woke up to a loud noise or worse.  "I'm not particularly tired,  just trying to get ahead, and I lost track of time."

"Well, it happens to every Ravenclaw sooner or later." Trystan told him as he finished off his third cookie and picked up another one.  "I know it happened to me alot when I was just starting here." He looked at the kid, "Which subject you trying to get ahead in? If you don't mind me asking."

And here was the curious part of Trystan's personality coming out.  Just because this kid was in his house and was the same age as his brother didn't mean that he needed to know everything, but that wasn't going to stop Trystan from making conversation. After all, it would be weird and quite rude of him to sit and not say anything when the kid was talking to him.  He was a little anti-social, but he wasn't that bad.  Mostly it was just becuase he didn't want to talk to certain people, or they'd been pranked by him and no longer talked to him.

"You don't have to tell me, I'm just curious." he said and then took a huge bite out of his cookie and then took a large drink of milk.

Lydian made her way from the charms classroom after finishing her last lesson of the day. The day had been fairly eventful for her as she made her way through the castle by herself. She passed by the moving portraits heading down to the ground floor hoping to not have missed dinner. She was absolutely starving and felt before too long she would collapse due to hunger. She ran her fingertips through her blonde hair before noticing indeed she had missed any chance for getting something to eat.

She walked closer to the dungeons after hearing a few voices in her head arguing with each other as he walked closer to get something from the kitchens whether or not it was forbidden at that late hour. She opened the door quietly before waking inside noticing that she wasn't the only student with the idea of food as there was more than one student inside. She frooze nervously. "Sorry i hope i am not disturbing anybody" She said hopeful.

Kelvin started to snap back at the older boy, he wasn't even sure why really.  Just it had been a long week and like nearly every day now, he was always a little on edge.  Which was why he had been hiding out in the library trying to get all of his work done before the weekend.  "Everything really.  Only had a few more essays to finish for next week.  Though I mostly focused on history but that's cause I kept getting distracted."  He told Trystan as a house elf walked up with a roast beef sandwich and some crisps.

"Thanks" Kelvin said to the elf as it walked away.  "Oh wait, any chance I could get some pumpkin ju..." He was saying as another house elf hurried over with a pitcher of pumpkin juice.  He took a large bite, swallowing most of the food before he spoke again, "Why didn't you take the cookies up to the common room? Or were you planning on eating them all yourself?"

"Sorry i hope i am not disturbing anybody" He heard from the doorway.  Kelvin had taken another large bite or he would have replied immediately and probably made it seem like she was interrupting them when she wasn't.

Lydian made her way over to a table trying not to cause any bother as she searched for something to eat. She noticed the boys were eating some cookies which rather amused her. Who would have thought that the wizarding world liked to sell and bake cookies? She thought to herself as she searched for some food. She poured herself a glass of pumpkin juice as she continued her search silently as she possibly could. She noticed one of the boys had noticed her presence and continued to do her task quietly and slightly nervous.

After about another ten minutes had passed her by she settled for some Cauldron Cakes she had found inside the fridge. Not her usual taste in food as she was more of a savory person then a sweet. She smiled at the boys warmly trying to keep herself as quiet as she could, so she was invisible to the world as she had seemed to be. She took a seat and began to eat.
