Knockturnal Material?

Nola & the Knockturnals

See that skinny blonde up there, rocking out and how lonely she looks up on stage all by herself? Her name is Magnolia (you can read more about her here) and she is the founding member and lead singer of Nola & the Knockturnals. I have some very specific ideas for the band and then I have some options, and then I need some opinions. When I was throwing around ideas about what might be fun to do for a Wrock Band I was torn between the idea of keeping it very close to Nola's PB's band The Pretty Reckless, or the possibility that the Knockturnals might be an all girl group (think The Runaways). I would love to hear opinions on the matter either way but it will probably come down to the people who show interest in being a part of the band and what type of characters come into play. I thought about making a list of adoptable characters but then decided it would be more fun if it were a group project and everyone who wanted to be involved got to contribute so here is what I know so far from writing Magnolia's bio.

The Band History
Founded in her sixth year (2006) Nola and the Knockturnals has had it's fair share of members come and go, due in no small part to the fact that Magnolia is a perfectionist and it has taken her a long time to settle into her skin and the feel of the band. Through seventh year and the first year post Hogwarts the band was completely self promoted, they scraped together money and Nola called in a favor from Johnny Flickwick to get time in his father's studio. Once they actually had a demo and started selling copies at their shows it didn't feel like very long before they were on the Wireless and playing bigger venues. I think in the span of the last two years the lineup of the band needs to have stayed fairly steady, so it would be great if there weren't a lot of new random "HI I JUST JOINED YOUR BAND" faces. I want there to be a cohesive almost family type feel to The Knockturnals.

The Band
  • 3-4 other members
  • Ages 20-25 preferred (exceptions may be made)
  • Sem-seasoned muscians
  • High tolerance for Nolia
  • Interest in the darker side of magic
  • Willingness to cooperate and collaborate ic & ooc
  • No gender specifications

Right, so to cover our bases The Knockturnals need at the very least a drummer, lead guitarist, and a bass player. However because this is the Wrock music there is no telling what other kinds of stuff we can come up with! The Weird Sisters had a cello and bagpipes if I remember correctly. I do feel like we should cap the number off at five members + Magnolia because otherwise they're a jam band and while those are awesome they sound completely different from the idea I have for this dark semi-underground grunge/melodic punk sounds I hear when I think of the band.

This is also where you can suggest ideas for venues, song titles, and the like for the band. This is NOT for Magnolia's personal plotting. I will post that later and possibly link to it here. This is strictly about discussing the band, it's future, and possible members!

Thanks!

I have character(s), possibly, but it depends on how they would fit.

On one hand, Sissel likes rock and roll and is credited to being able to play the guitar. However, he has his job (for how involved a job at Hogwarts is) and may be too old/too square for the vibe the Knockturnals are looking for but he's a skilled guitarist.

Dotty has more of a style and attitude that sounds Knockturnal worthy. Even for her whininess she'd fit in and Nolia would be able to get her to shut up. But I've never before planned any musical ability for Dotty and given how she's drifted around she doesn't have any means to stay in practice with anything...besides drums. I could see her having the stamina for drumming given her maniac energy, if more like "Animal" at the start than of a professional skill.

Since the band was formed while she was at Hogwarts, and even with it's rotating lineup... Sissel is not really Knockturnal material. Part of the band's vibe is that they're very into the darker side of magic/life. Sissel would be like jamming with a parent rather than promiscuity, illicit potions, and general chaos.

Dotty could work in connection to the band but more like as a groupie? Magnolia is a perfectionist, this is her life, she's put everything she ever had into creating Nola and the Knockturnals, without a strong semi-seasoned drummer I don't know how that would work? Ideally in my head the shortest amount of time the "newest" member would have been with the band is a year and I'd like it to be closer to two I think. It takes time for things to gel within a group.

Yeah, I only have so far to stretch with my cast as I'm not looking for any new adoptions or secondary characters :P I think it will still be interesting to have Dotty hang out with the band, potentially 'hide out' with the band depending on how some criminal plots go. Once again with how I pitched Dotty's backstory being American she wouldn't have too much of means of prior connection with the band.

But if having her around helps draw up thread material that works too, even if she's not a player ;)

Just placing my claim here, Ignatius Prewett is the drummer for Nola & the Knockturnals, which also means that the band doesnt play on the full moon since their drummer is a werewolf :)
