Physical Description: Nancy grew up in a small village, working indoors most of the time due to all of the rain and clouds, she was not out in the sun often, so she had very pale skin, add to the ghostly glow of the past 60 years, she is a marble white.
Her blonde hair rolled down her back when she slept and rolled into a bun during the day, she had minimal freckles spotting all over her face and liked to wear long, flowing peasant shirts. She was average height for her age, about 5’3’’ and about 100 lbs.
Her eyes are a pale blue and her teeth are slightly crooked to the left, she has a gap where she had recently lost her last tooth before she was murdered.
Personality Description: Nancy was a very simple teenager, she helped her parents out in their bakery and enjoyed quiet activities, such as needlepoint and sewing. ‘Tillie’ as her father called her, a nickname of his mother’s name, Matilda, attended many social events when not at school, including teen dances and community .
She was loved by everyone in her village, a quiet smart girl, who was always polite and able to help out in problems such as the field fires that often occurred during the dry summer months. She read at night, only for school, and was often stubborn in an argument, academic or not.
When she was small Nancy’s father would take her to his toy shop where he made wooden toys and music boxes, dolls, yo-yos, and tin soldiers lined the shelves. Tillie dusted the shelves growing up and straightened Barbie doll boxes and fluffed the stuffed puppies.
History: Nancy was raised in a family of 6, all of her siblings were sisters, two older, one younger. Martha, Lily, Nancy, and Helen grew up in Habblesthrope, as well as the past 3 generations of her family. Her father, George, was a muggleborn wizard, attended Hogwarts, and came back to Habblesthrope to pursue a non-magical career as a toy maker.
Her mother also grew up in the village, her father was a farmer. Margret and George were married a year and a half after George returned from Hogwarts after years of summer romance at ages 20 and nineteen. They waited four years before having Martha who possessed magical powers like her father. Lily took after her mother, and did not attend Hogwarts, she was born two years after Martha, another two years until Nancy, and three years until Helen was born, and she was also a squib. An odd bunch, but they kept their powers under wraps.
The girls spent summers braiding each other’s hair, playing dolls, and growing up. Lily and Helen often fought with Martha and Nancy about the girls’ abilities in witchcraft, but other than that, they did not squabble.
The family was shattered when Nancy was murdered in the summer of 1950. She had been attending a late night teen dance in the community center, and was on her way home when she heard sobbing coming from what appeared to be a homeless elderly man.
She pitied the man, no one was homeless in Habblesthorpe, and everyone cared for the other. He must have been from another town. She pulled a few coins for her wallet and handed them to the man. He in turn pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times in the chest. She died within minutes.
Morgan Turk dragged her body into the nearby wheat field, chopped up the body with a fire axe and scattered the remains, burying them a few inches each, he then torched the field and ran. He played it off as if it was another summer forest fire, waited an hour so the body would mostly be gone, and the rest would be covered by ash.
Nancy chose to be a ghost so she could try to live out a semi-normal life she would never have. Her family was torn, they searched for years, but they did not find her body that laid in bits in the field they walked by on their way to town every day.
Nancy finally decided not to follow her family anymore, after seeing her father snap her wand, she fled to Hogwarts, knowing that other ghost would be there to walk her through her struggle. She missed her school and still wanted to learn, despite her own ghostly handicap. Nancy got to learn things she would never learn for years as a human.
She ‘slept’ in the dungeons with the other ghosts, they folded her under their wings and helped her befriend all of the new students, she watched her little sister, but never spoke to her, fearing the questions she would ask.
She still protected Helen though, throwing books at boys who teased Ellie about her pigtails, and tapped her on the shoulder when she fell asleep while studying. She now haunts the Hufflepuff dorms, helping out her fellow Puffs in an attempt to make their experience at Hogwarts as special as hers was.
