History: The McCullan family was a very
fruitful family. Mr. and Mrs. McCullan had a total of twelve children, the eldest at 27 years of age, and the youngest at a mere 3 months. Mr. McCullan was a wealthy business man with a prolific trade in illegal magical flying carpets, and Mrs. McCullan was a terrible housewife. The McCullan family had four House Elves in their ownership: Dipper, Hikkey, Posey, and Throp. The fourth-to-last child to have been born was age 8, and a technical master to the four overworked elves. One day, she ordered Hikkey to have a baby for her to play with, and Hikkey was forced to oblige.
When the adult McCullan’s found out about Hikkey’s gestation, they were livid. House Elves were not given maternity leave, but any pregnant being cannot physically work as hard as they would without a child growing inside them. When Tipper was born, Hikkey was charged with training him in the ways of the McCullan household, and the ways of being a House Elf. The poor baby was constantly plagued by the young children of the house, and it was very difficult for him to learn.
The McCullan’s were a very strict family, and when it became apparent that Tipper would not be as dependable as his family, Mrs. McCullan went to town and purchased an expensive silk robe and had it shrunken to fit Tipper perfectly. When she got home, the entire family came together to present Tipper with the ‘gift’. They were all so very excited, and tried to make it appear as if this was an opportunity for Tipper to advance his life. Tipper was only twelve.
Now, don’t get me wrong, House Elves mature much quicker than humans, so it wasn’t as if the family was throwing a child on the streets. Even so, Tipper was a young elf, and quite devastated. It wasn’t as if Tipper could just open the Daily Prophet and look to the classifieds. There would be no sign in windows saying: House Elf Wanted. A free elf is a dead elf; that’s what his family used to say. Tipper didn’t want to believe that though, Tipper knew he was a good Elf, and he was determined to find good work.
He went from magical family to magical family, trying to find a place that would hire Tipper, but to no avail. As the nights began to lengthen, Tipper’s dashing robe began to get dirty and unkempt. He could have tidied it up, of course, now that his magic was unrestricted, but he chose not to. He chose to let the mark of his embarrassment shine through. One day, he walked up this beautiful lawn to a huge mansion and asked the house elf that came to the door if their master was home. With a disdainful look, the house elf scurried away and moments later, an eccentric wizard stood before him.
He told Tipper that he didn’t need any more help around the house, that his one elf did a fine job, but that he should try Hogwarts. He had once heard of a case where a free elf had been employed by the school, so away Tipper went. Travelling as a house was as easy as snapping, so when Tipper snapped, he found himself in front of imposing gates, with winged boars flanking the gate. Tipper wasn’t sure what to do, so he started talking to the statues. “Hello, my name is Tipper, and I’m a free elf. Tipper needs work, yes he does. Is there someone Tipper can talk to about a job?” He asked, cringing at the effort, finally succumbing and bashing his head against the gates in punishment.
A few moments later, a wizened old man came to fetch him from the gate. Tipper noticed the old man wheezed a lot. The man took Tipper to the master of the school Hogwarts office, and Tipper stood. The master of the Hogwarts told Tipper that he could have a job working for Hogwarts, and he could have 15 Galleons a week and weekends off and he only had to work for 8 hours a day. Tipper started ramming his head into the desk at that. Tipper finally agreed to two Galleons a week, four days off a month, and 16 hour days.
Tipper was given his very own cupboard to live in, with an elf-sized bed and everything. In his cupboard, he put his three new togas, and he went to greet the Hogwarts House Elf staff. Tipper had never seen so many house elves in his life! Tipper was the youngest house elf at Hogwarts, he found out, and the only one that had accepted pay and benefits. That made Tipper upset for a little while, but Tipper soon found out that house elves were too busy to care about anything but their work, not Tipper though, he did care. He cared about Hogwarts, and he cared about his new cupboard where he could put his things. He also cared that he was allowed to have things, anything he wanted, not that he wanted much.
The other house elves were very good at teaching Tipper how things were done, and Tipper was eager to learn. He was eager to show the masters at Hogwarts that he was a good elf, and that he would be a good elf for the rest of his life. When Tipper was 17 years old, a nice witch from the magic house of laws came to see Tipper in his cubby. She asked Tipper if he could come with her to the magic house of laws and talk to her about what it was like to be a free elf. Tipper had lots of days off that he hadn’t used, so Tipper said sure, and snapped his fingers.
The nice witch suddenly became a very bad witch when she wouldn’t stop asking Tipper to take more money, to take vacation days and better living accommodations. Tipper reached over and grabbed the lamp from the witch’s pretty wooden desk and started bashing himself with it. “Tipper… is… bad… elf… Tipper… doesn’t… want… bad…” His sobs making his words incoherent. After that day, whenever Tipper met the nice people from the magic house of laws, they took him to a room where there was pillowy walls and nothing Tipper could use to hurt himself. That’s why Tipper learned to bite himself if he was bad.
Tipper is twenty years old now, yes he is and he loves loves loves working at Hogwarts. He has seen many masters of the school come and go, and he has heard many secrets told, and he keeps everything filed away in his enormous head in case one day his masters require the recollection of him. Tipper is a good house elf.
RP Sample including dialogue, reactions and descriptions of surroundings: Tipper opened his eyes into the dark confines of his cupboard. He didn’t require much sleep, but Tipper liked the knowledge that he could have as much sleep as he wanted. Tipper pushed himself up off the cozy cot and planted his little elven feet on the cold stone floor. Maybe Tipper should buy a rug to go beside his bed, or maybe Tipper should buy some slippers. Tipper sighed and reached around the stacks of gold in his cupboard to grab one of his Hogwarts togas from the hangers he had fashioned on the wall.
Tipper knew that there were exactly 830 galleons in his cupboard, as he had only spent two since he was hired eight years previous. One he had thrown in the big fountain in the magic house of laws, and the other he had used to buy new togas when his old ones got to frayed or stained. Sometimes Tipper thought about getting a vault at Gringotts, yes he did, but Tipper wasn’t sure if he would be allowed, because Tipper was an elf.
Tipper was supposed to do the nasty mean Slytherin laundry today. Tipper loved laundry, but Tipper did not love the nasty mean Slytherins, no he did not. The nasty mean Slytherins were always playing mean pranks on Tipper, and Tipper sometimes wanted to say bad things about them, but Tipper would not, no he would not. The nasty mean Slytherins were still his masters, and Tipper would never speak ill of his masters. Tipper loved his masters, even the nasty mean Slytherins, because they were the reason Tipper had a job and a home. He liked the kind crawly Hufflepuffs best though, they were always very nice to Tipper. Tipper liked to watch as they crawled through the tunnels to their bigger cupboards. Tipper thought they were funny, yes he did.
Tipper changed his clothes and bounded happily from his sleeping space. Tipper sang his favorite song about cleaning as he skipped merrily to the room where he did the laundry, and hummed happily as he worked. Tipper was a good house elf, yes he was.

His youth provides him with room to grow, and a knack for getting into mischief that he really should avoid. Tipper is very loyal to Hogwarts and its inhabitants and will protect and nurture them with his life.
