[Nov. 14] Man, You Should Not Be On That Broom (Kiba)

Damien walked out confidently to the empty Quidditch pitch in a fresh pair of jeans and a purple and black striped shirt. It was late morning, and he was ditching his homework to try an incredibly new sport. Flying. Of course he had to borrow a broomstick from one of his buddies, who apparently had too much faith in him that he would succeed.

He walked out onto the pitch, looking at the immense size and feeling slightly intimidated by it. The Salemite gulped, looking up at the overcast sky and hoping it wouldn't rain on his practice. He straddled the broomstick, but then remembered how there was a certain way you had to do things to get it to work.

So he lay it on the ground, and commanded "Up!" It shivered slightly but nothing else happened. He repeated "Up!" And this time the broom flew up to his awaiting hand, creating a resulting smack against the skin. Then he repeated what he had done before, throwing his right leg over the broom and trying to balance. He kicked up off the ground... and came back down. He had expected the broom to fly at once and hold his weight, but it didn't and it sent him toppling into the grass.

He groaned and stood back up, stumbling a bit and brushing the grass off of his jeans. Then he tried again, this time he managed to hover for, oh, about .7 seconds before falling back down into the grass. "This is terrible." He said to himself, lying on his back and looking up at the clouds. "How do these people fly on these sticks!"

Kiba kicked a pebble along the ground as he wandered aimlessly around the Hogwarts grounds, too bored to be doing anything else. After the whole body swap business, Kiba felt he should lay low, for just a little bit. Kicking the pebble further this time, Kiba tried to think of something to do. It was just another boring Saturday where Kiba had ditched his homework and felt it more productive to be outside in the fresh air. The cold, fresh air. Kiba hated the cold, so as soon as the air became cold and stung his face, he was quick to bundle up in some warm clothes. His well worn jeans and sweatshirt kept him somewhat warm. Sliding the hood onto his head and stuffing his hands into the pockets of his dark grey sweatshirt, Kiba followed after the pebble as it bouced and rolled onto the outskirts of the Quidditch pitch.

Not thinking anyone else was on the pitch, Kiba jumped slightly at the sight of a figure laying on the grass. His curiousity was piqued instantly and a smirk lit up his face. He gave the pebble one last kick before ditching it and walking over to them. As he got closer, Kiba didn't really recognise the boy. Sure, he had seen him around Hogwarts, but he couldn't even remember his name. He knew he was from Salem though, that much was obvious. Stopping a few metres away, Kiba scuffed his feet on the grass, trying to figure out what the kid was doing on the grass. There was a broom next to him, so obviously, he was attempting to fly.

Kiba took a few steps forward and leaned over the boy with his hood still on and his hands stuffed in his pockets, blocking his view of the sky. "Hey, what are you doing?"

Suddenly somebody blocked his view, and Damien startled. He hadn't been expecting anyone else to be out here. He sat up and got to his feet. "Uh, I think I was trying to fly." He leaned down and picked the broom up off the ground where he had let it fall. "So far, I can get about an inch off of the ground."

Damien shrugged, he didn't have to explain himself to this guy. But for some reason he felt like he owed him an explanation as to why he was lying on the ground in the middle of the pitch. He realized it must of been pretty weird seeing somebody just... there. Good thing he wasn't dead or the poor guy would've been scared to hell and back.

"You, um... Do you know how this thing works?" He asked the boy, lifting his broom in the air. "My name is Damien by the way," he held out his hand in greeting.

Smiling at Damien's excuse for being out in the Quidditch pitch, Kiba couldn't help but laugh. "You think you were trying to fly?" He chuckled, "Don't those American schools teach anything?" Even though he was freezing and was desperate to get back inside, Kiba thought watching the foreigner's attempt at flying would be so much more entertaining. Since he had nothing better to do, maybe he would give the guy a few pointers. Not that Kiba was such a great flyer himself, he wasn't terrible though and at least he could get off the ground.

As Damien stuck his hand out and introduced himself, Kiba just looked at Damien's hand and scrunched his nose. "My hands are cold." He said, not taking his hands from his pockets, but grinned instead. "I'm Kiba, by the way. But you can call me Sir, I'm in a 'Sir' kind of mood." Glancing around the empty pitch, Kiba chuckled as he looked back to Damien. "I'm kidding, I wouldn't actually get anyone to call me 'Sir', that's just ridiculous. And of course I know how a bloody broom works, what do you take me for?"

With a troublesome smirk on his face, Kiba took a few steps back and rolled his eyes at Damien. "Well then," He said, looking towards the sky, "Let's see what I've got to work with, show me what you've got!"

Damien laughed, "Your hands are cold? You should try living through a Boston winter, it's a whole lot of fun. It's only november, the weather here is still nice!" He protested againt Kiba being cold. But he dropped his hand to his side, switching the broom back and forth between hands.

This guy was funny, sort of a jokester but not at the moment way. "I don't know! Maybe I thought you were some transfer or something from a different country or maybe you have a fear of flying or..." Damien ran out of things to say. Of course Kiba could fly, they all learned how to fly here. It just wasn't a priority for some of the Salem students when they were busy playing Quodpot.

"Trust me, there's not much to show." Damien said, backing off a few feet and straddling the broom again. He took a deep breath, focusing on one thing. I'm a leaf on the wind, watch me soar. Although the positive reinforcements were nice to think about, they didn't help much as Damien kicked off the ground and into the air. He looked like a sad excuse for a rabbit, bouncing up and down and trying to stay in the air.

On his third kick, he managed to hover about two or three feet from the ground. He shook on the broom, shaking from the pure adrenaline of not being connected to the ground. But as he tried to get higher, he leaned to far and swung himself upside down, letting go of the broom and toppling back into the grass. He pushed himself back up quickly though, and crossed his arms. "Maybe it's broken?" He said, reffering to the broom.

Kiba watched on as Damien attempted to get airbourne once more. He bounced and wobbled, only managing to hover for a little while before he leaned too far on the broom and swung right off. The sight was too hilarious and Kiba couldn't control himself. Covering his mouth with his hands, Kiba tried to prevent from laughing out loud at Damien. He didn't want to offend or upset him, but it sure was funny.

Doing a pretty good job of not bursting out laughing so far, Kiba bit his lip as Damien scrambled to his feet and suggested there was something wrong with the broom. "Well, it wasn't broken before, but after you had a go, I wouldn't be surprised if the broom was unusable." Kiba smirked, shaking his head at Damien. Picking up the broom, Kiba handed it back to Damien and quickly thrust his hands back in his pockets.

"Alright, listen up, this is how it's going to go down." Kiba said, trying to make his voice sound like one of authority, "First, you need to actually sit on the thing properly, you were way to far forward and that's why you fell off." Motioning for Damien to straddle the broom again, Kiba stared at the boy with narrowed eyes. "Why do you want to learn how to fly on a broom anyway? Trying to impress the ladies?" He laughed, grinning like a cheshire cat.

Damien accepted the broom from Kiba, resisting the urge to stick his tongue out like a child. He would've if he was still like... ten or something, but he was older now and the time for childish things were past. Just because the broom didn't look broken, didn't mean it wasn't. In the back of his mind he knew it was an operator error though.

He got on the broom again, feet firmly planted on the ground. "Why do I want to? I dunno, it looks pretty neat. And I hate to be one of the people on campus that doesn't know how to fly this thing." He smiled at Kiba's latter suggestion, "And if I'm impressing any ladies while I'm at it, well that's just an added bonus."

"So sit up straighter? Is that what you're saying?" He asked, standing with perfect posture. Now that it was mentioned, he realized that he had been leaning forward. Maybe he would do better if he wasn't really looking at the ground so much. "Let's give this another go," he said, jumping up off the ground and actually hovering a foot or two above it. His feet dangled down and his back was straight, and he wasn't moving a bit.

"Well this is better than before," Damien said as he settled back to the ground. "At least I landed on my feet."
